    God this takes me back to my days stood on windy platforms, Huddersfield, Leeds City et al!! Days out to Crewe, Doncaster etc with works passes. Happy days wonderful memories thanks so much it is a pleasure to watch and a magical layout well done

      Hi Ian, Really pleased it brought back those wonderful memories. It is, of course, impossible to create that atmosphere which we too experienced at Leeds and Doncaster so we attempted to describe by way of narration just how captivating it all was. Thanks very much for taking the time to watch and give such great feedback. We hope to perhaps have another take on it all, by way of a follow up video, later in the year. Best wishes.

    I doff my hat in admiration of your fine work. The story, the timetables services, the period setting; it all comes together to create a wonderful piece that really captures the mood of the railway in the final harrah of the steam era. Jolly well done!

    How absolutely wonderful to travel back in time to how the railways used to be, and how model railways used to be - all made with pride and very high standards throughout. Congratulations on your superb layout and your kind hospitality; a most enjoyable video. An impressive website too, well done both of you - and best regards to the long suffering tea ladies! Much obliged, Steve

      Hi Steve. So pleased you enjoyed our efforts and thanks for responding. Our aim was firstly to model the 1950s and secondly to film and narrate a story in a way which capture the times and characters. We were so fortunate to be in our teens when all of this was part of everyday life. Thanks again for your interest..

    Hello there, what a brilliant film, you should seriously consider entering this into a Short Film Festival. It reminds me of "Train of Events" ( the great Jack Warner), "Brief Encounter" ( Celia Johnson & Leslie Howard ), and other British B&W films from the 1950s& 60s which I watched on school holidays, and later after coming home from my job on the railways , I got well paid to play with big trains, and others did the maintenance ! Best wishes and regards from Australia.

      Hi. Glad to know our love of model railways is reaching 'down under', and that you enjoyed the video. Thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragement. We assume you have seen our website at www.hornbycentral.co.uk which we are proud, showing a lifetime of model railway addiction!! Best wishes.

    Awesome modelling and a stunning day in the life of a steam railway and all of it characters. I love it and would be more than proud to produce something near to this myself. I like the fact that the locos have footplate crews and carriages have passengers in them. A true touch of realism. Take care...

    I recall time I spent in England and Scotland over forty years ago, which was my introduction to the passion people from Great Britain have for their trains. This delightful video demonstrates exactly that, in the most delicious way. No doubt every train layout is telling a story, but it is rare that story is made explicit, which is what you've done here. I loved it all. I can imagine you as a youngster taking notes as you traveled about the engines you encountered. This is wonderful!

    • @hornbycentral7691
      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Really appreciate your kind comments Curtis. We are extremely lucky in Great Britain to have so much railway history to recount and explore. This history is reflected in the passion we have to model our own earlier experiences in whatever gauge we choose. That you share our passion is great and we thank you for taking the time and trouble to watch and comment so complimentary on our efforts. Best wishes.

      Thank you Bob for your feedback , really appreciated. The layout is 99% Peco code 100 track. In the early days, before live frogs, I converted the then dead frogs to live including a couple of crossovers. Good running has always been our main objective and with 47 locos of differing pedigree they all traverse all of the track with hardly a hiccup. That has however taken 40 years to achieve!!
      best wishes for the festivities.

    • @hornbycentral7691
      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Thank you Michael for your kind comments. Yes-Our biggest challenge was to get ALL the stock to navigate code 100 Peco track. All our 47 locos and the rest of the stock do that flawlessly. Jackson and Romford wheels convertions on our early stock, being the secret.with one or two surprising exceptions ie early Hornby tenders with wide flanges did not need converting.

    • @hornbycentral7691
      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Your kind comments are really appreciated C & F. There is no way we could afford to start this railway with today's prices. The majority of the cost was incurred some 30/40 years ago. The layout was then stored for some 25 years and subsequently resurrected some 10 years ago and finished in 2010. However the video is the result of the purchase of a £230 camera in 2016 and a few hundred hours of our time, which cost us nothing, in finding out how to do it!! Best wishes and many thanks again.

    great layout, liked the story, Elton road steam shed is really interesting with all the locomotives and the turntable, it's very realistic, you are very knowledgable, were you a railwayman in steam days? I think your missing a britannia pacific though, only kidding, ha ha, I tried to emulate the 50's and 60's with my layout, take a look if you like.

    • @hornbycentral7691

      Thanks Derek for your kind remarks. I was never a railwayman , but an avid trainspotter. Simply picked up some knowledge over all the years and spent a bit of time on research to learn more about the locos we were modelling. As you noticed we did manage one 'Brit' , on the turntable, right at the end of the video. Loved all your Brits and your layout. Best wishes.

    Great video and narration. Any one adding narration to their videos should take note of this demonstration. Text must have been properly written out and narrated without additional er, ah, you know etc. which makes listening very tedious. This is such an excellent video in every way.

      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Than you Patrick for taking the time and trouble to watch and then give such encouraging feedback for our video. We are pleased you were able to rate it so highly as this was our first attempt with the camera and subsequently through Windows Movie Maker to mix the narration which, as you commented, was indeed fully scripted with a few trials first. Again thank you. Best wishes.

    Brilliant... I watched it a while ago, sound down..... And didn't realise about the commentary until this morning, its one i'll be watching again. Was this featured in Railway Modeller some years ago? The title seems familiar. I model a different scale and era, but great modelling is always so watchable. Best Wishes - Steve

      Thank you Greg for taking the time and trouble to watch and rate our video. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, you did recognise some Horby Dublo shorty mk1s and pullmans. For us they still represent the pinnacle of early model railway 'off the peg' production. Incidentally this was our first foray into video making. It was as great a challenge as anything we had attempted railway wise.

    • @hornbycentral7691
      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Many thanks Thomas for your kind remarks. Glad you 'Loved it'. It is based on a village station called Hornby on the former Little North Western line twixt Morecambe and Wennington Junction in Lancashire. Our railway is however purely imaginary. It is themed on the nostalgia of the 1950s as we remember it in this part of the Country. Thank you again and best wishes..

    hi, can anyone help me with a problem, how do I protect the card houses from damp and mold on my garage layout I'm building? please thanx d.

    • @hornbycentral7691
      @hornbycentral7691  7 лет назад

      Hi Guys. Really sorry but we do not have a cheap/easy answer to your question. Garages are notorious for damp, even if you think you have a dry garage the odds are that the air will be predominantly saturated a lot of the time. Not good just for card houses but for most things model railway orientated. A dehumidifier is probably the only answer , but they do not come cheap and obviously cost to run. Suggest you have a look on ebay for one if you decide to go down this route. Thank you for your interest and we wish you good luck with your modelling.
