I agree, but remember that Taika Waititi is part Jewish himself and it was his mother, Robin Cohen who first told him that he should think about adapting the novel “Caging Skies” for the big screen.
Scarlett Johansson is also part Jewish, her father is from Denmark and she has an American mother of Polish-Jewish ancestry, so she has dual Danish-American citizenship. The Polish-Jewish side of her family really suffered horribly during the war, while the Danish Jews never even wore the yellow star identification mark, unlike in the rest of occupied Europe, and eventually the Danes also saved all their Jews from the extermination camps.

This movie is in my top movies of all time. Comedy has long been forgotten in serious film discussions and this one REALLY used comedy to push the emotional roller coaster even further. All the serious parts felt even more serious and heartwrenching bc there was the genuine comedy and cuteness to contrast with.

This movie is meant to depict world war two as seen and understood by a ten year old German boy's perspective. His unrealistic imagery of Hitler is just how an idolizing little boy might imagine Hitler to be . And the progression from the sweetly silly sort of tone to the movie then transitioning to an incrementally darker and darker tone culminating in the death of his mother, is meant to represent JoJo's dawning awareness of the realities of war , As well as his awakening to its true horrors and his inevitable disillusionment of his innocent and idealistic view of Adolf Hitler .

Exactly. People like to assume they are immune to indoctrination. People miss the point of this movie because it's goofy at times but that's meant to reflect how normalized and even celebrated absolutely reprehensible ethics can become in a society. It's a warning.

The Berlin Olympics officially opened on August 1, 1936. Eighteen African American athletes competed. Jesse Owens was the most successful athlete-of any race. Between August 3 and August 9, 22-year-old Owens won gold medals in the long jump, the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and the 4 x 100-meter relay. He became the first American track and field athlete to win four gold medals at a single Olympic Games.
Jesse Owens (centre) standing on the winners' podium after receiving the gold medal for the running broad jump (long jump) at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
    AP
After the Olympics ended, stories claiming that Owens had been “snubbed” by Hitler circulated widely. As the most common variant of the story goes, after Owens won his first medal, Hitler, not wanting to acknowledge a non-Aryan athlete’s ability, left the stadium.

I loved this film. But there are many more insightful films that examine the Holocaust without irony (which is not to say without humour).
For example: Agnieszka Holland's "Europa, Europa" (1990) and "In Darkness" (2011), "The Book Thief" (2013), "The Boy in Striped Pajamas" (2008) and "Sophie's Choice" (1982).
However, some of these films are partially or fully subtitled so I gather most English-speaking reactors can't be bothered...

The Russians may have lost the most soldiers, but to say they won the war is a lie.
It was the Western Front that pounded most of the Luftwaffe. It was the Americans and British who destroyed almost the entire war economy for the Germans, which gave the Soviets the opportunity to move at all. Not to mention the Leand Lease which allowed the Soviets to maintain production.
Without it, Germany would have won against the USSR.
