It does, but i am disappointed that it only comes in a 3 octave version and i am not fond of its somewhat mediocre build quality, it makes up for that with being intuitive to program, the original was certainly not.
As a long-time WS A/D owner... on the reboot... having a resonating filter is nice but having an *analog* resonating filter seems a no-brainer to me. Also... it is disappointing to hear editing the wave sequences is not much easier than the original... which is a major PITA.
What an extraordinary keyboard-synth. Still very relevant today in 2023. So glad Korg did the new Wavestate. I will likely get one. May not be as fun as the old Wavestation Keyboard. I have the software version v2 and do like that. But this was such a beautiful board and the programming was incredible.
@@synth4ever See my other comment on the layering/polyphony.. but you would need at least 4 layered Wavestates to make 1 Wavestation (ignoring the new sequencing lane capabilities, resonant filter, much better patch storage and extended PCM sample set) :) so yes, Wavestate is more powerful in one way, and less in another.
Nuuuuuummma-aaaannn!!!! reminds me of Gary back in the day ... loads of synth acts used this of course, sounds great still! Might have to get the new Wavestate 😎🎹👍🎶🍻
You can quite distinctly hear the "The Wave Song" preset at 1:32 in Beyond the Mind's Eye, that phaabulous 1990s computer animation montage, featuring music by Jan Hammer.
@@xa1a I'm not familiar with that Ensoniq model... I knew of the "MR" series in which you could not edit the sounds on board... To do so, you needed a computer with a compatible editor/librarian app... Did the Fizmo run like that?
@@JhihmoacI remember being so disappointed when I read you needed a computer to edit. I thought all those years ago that you keep synths longer than computers, and you could run into a situation where you couldn't edit your synth any more. And time has proven me right. If MR rack could be edited by itself it would be vastly more desirable today.
I have the wavestation A/D module. This synths are capable of very deep internal processing. Great sounds my friend ! Wave sequencing is tops in my book !
Even today its sounds like no keyboard outthere. I got the Wavestation A/D last week and i'm having so much fun with it. Without wave sequencing and a vector joystick it would have just been your average Rompler from the 90's.
Yea, the wave sequencing is the real standout on this synth, but it also has a very breathy ambient sound quality to it which makes it great for cinematic sounds.
I have used is as a main synth, in a time where other synths weren't better. So no need for vector synthesis. Wavesequencing came in handy for sound effects though.
I have heavily used a Wavestation for its wonderful sounds, but never found a use for the Vector joystick. The combinations of volumes never went right, when turning the joystick.
It has the wavestation ROM and hd1 indeed has wave sequencing and vector synthesis, but overlooked because the original presets are absent. I would love to find them and load them into my Kronos.
I bought a Wavestation recently, declared as EX. The seller told me that the WS has been modded in early days to become a real EX using the upgrade kit at that time. But I'm still unsure if I really got an exact EX version. It has firmware 3.19 on it and while replacing the internal battery I recognized that my WS has IC sockets on IC2-5 carrying some IC's which the normal version doesn't have. Seems to me that this is the ROM upgrade. He also gave me a PCM card with additional sounds from the EX. Is there anything else I could check to be sure I have a real EX model?
Original Wavestation has a little over 300 ROM sample waves. EX has over 500. If the wave expansion ROMS are working, you'll be able to scroll past 500 waves.
@@synth4ever Nvm, I've done some research into it. The preset is called Guardian. By the way, do you have a Korg Monologue? I recently got one and I'd love for you to make a video on it, if you have one of course.

@@synth4ever Must be something in the converters and stuff and maybe the effects too. The Wavestate just sounds sterile and modern. I was really excited about it, but after hearing it I was kinda bummed. Rather buy Wavestation EX or AD for quarter the price.
@@HenritheHorse I appreciate what Korg has done to modernize the synth. That being said, I have the AD and really don't see any need for the Wavestate. Again, though, I really do like what they did with it.
This is an old video, so I'm late to the comments, but one thing to understand that makes a huge difference is the Wavestate 'only' has 4 layers/oscillators per patch - each layer being an oscillator with wavesequencing or single PCM samples.. the Wavestation has 8 X 4 layers per 'Performance' (multiset), each layer/patch has up to 4 oscillators.. each of which can have Wavesequences or single PCM tone.. one issue in both synths is that Wavesequences take 2 voice of polyphony if crossfading is enabled... the Wavestate has 64 voice polyphony max (but divide that by 4 immediately if you use all the 4 layers), the Wavestation has 32. Anyway.. long story, but the Wavestation has the capability of more tones layered at the same time in total (32 vs 4 on the Wavestate) - so potentially a richer sound - at the expense of polyphony (if you use all 8 layers on the Wavestation you'll easily get down to 1 note real polyphony - but at least you can split those layers across the keyboard and velocity zones - and most 'performances' are using maybe 2-4 patches - with each patch between 1 to 4 oscillators....).
Fantastic sounds, long-live the Wavestation!
Also Korg's newly released Wavestate synth (based on the old Wavestation) sounds amazing, too!
Thanks! Yes, the Wavestate does look fantastic. The Wavestation is where it all started though. :)

This ❤Synthesizer is phantastic
I borrowed it in the 90s, it's a nice synth, the sounds are very beautiful. Very nice your demo as always.
Thank you my friend. Glad you got to try one back in the 90s! :)
This keyboard alaways amazed me a long time ago, with deep and lushs pad sounds!Thumb up!
Yes, it is excellent for big lush pads and cinematic soundscapes. Certainly one of its biggest strengths.
The only thing in my opinion that even came close (and surpassed it in some regards) during this time (early 90s) was the iconic Roland JD-800...
I agree, but would argue the Ensoniq Fizmo! Once you got around the ridiculous interface, it was unbelievably powerful!

Nice, Wavestation definitely has a great vibe to it. Never tried the A/D myself.
I have one of these. The UI makes it a nightmare to tweak the presets but man it sure does sound gorgeous... 😎
Yea the UI is a pain but it sounds lovely.
The broken key makes me cry in A♭m.

Not a hard fix really
It is easy to fix if one can found original part.
Some of the retro digital synths are pretty underwhelming compared to VST stuff now but this is still IMMENSE!
Indeed, Wavestation is still very powerful.

Not sure, I no longer have this synth. I'd ask in some FB groups for this synth or vintage synth repair groups/shops.
If it has Piano samples in the rom then it's the EX - just scan through the wavelist.
