    My dream was to be a cruise ship chef. I went to a vocational school. I took culinary. Well that changed. I met my husband, we were both 15. I still could have done it. Just changed my plans. I was a chef in a restaurant. I’ve been together with my husband for 31 years. We have been married for 25 years. We have 2 amazing sons. 23 and 21. I just found out that we’re going to be grandparents. My 23 is going to be a dad, too a girl. We’re just so excited. I just want to say I LOVE your videos, because it gives me a glimpse into the cruising world ❤❤❤❤.

    Lucy, thanks for another nice video. Glad you and Billie had a wonderful (and relaxed) time on Cunard. I think you both looked great! (but yeah you both could've used some "bling" on formal night). 😀 BTW, my Mom and Dad did the old QE2 transatlantic once, and think it was the only time my Dad ever wore a tux. Fair winds and stay warm sweetie!

    I’m also never been on a cruise before in my life. I do like what Cuarnard seems to emphasis on as far as it’s your decor on the the old English trim of their cruise ships.

    It is nice to know that there are still places where you are expected to dress nicely.
    And that there are still standards.

    • @breadyegg
      @breadyegg 6 месяцев назад

      Agreed. You get a lot of "I don't want to go on a cruise to dress up" moaning comments on videos like these, but there are many many other lines those folks can go on. I'm not the biggest fan of dressing to the nines on the formal nights, but I like to dress well at the same time as being comfortable, and there's something about seeing other people who have made that effort as well

    Another quirky, great, insightful Cunard video, Lucy - thanks 🙂 I agree with your views and recommendations exactly, having been on a few Cunard cruises myself. Some people (including my wife and I) choose Cunard precisely because it is a little smarter, politer and evening -dressy overall; it's a key reason for us not trying some other cruise lines. There's plenty of room in the market for all sorts of cruise vibe, and Cunard has a precious niche in my view. And your phone for filming is very good 👍 Cruise on!

    I am not a cruiser, but my mother is a Cunard addict and Diamond in their cruising program.
    I am a person who likes to dress and would dress in trousers with a polo shirt most of the time. Yes most men will wear dinner suits for formal nights, but I would wear a dark suit, white shirt and a black tie instead, others wore more modern male evening wear but it was always the ladies night to shine and many would bring a number of evening dresses depending on the number of formal nights.
    The people generally were nice, polite, friendly and the staff were absolutely fantastic and really are who for me were the most memorable people on the two trips that I have done. They are also often very helpful and think of others.
    An example of this was when my mum was on a long cruise and they stopped at Easter Island. She had wanted to see the Moai but the tours had been booked out. She was speaking to a german couple (in english) who had the same problem and who had decided to get a taxi to have a look and they invited mum to join them. When she asked them about making a contribution to the cost they told her to wait until they got back to the ship. When they returned they didn't want anything from mum, saying that they would have had to pay the same amount without her, but she left an envelope under their door after taking them for a drink on the ship.
    Yes Cunard is more refined and not a party ship, so it isnt for everybody and you dont have to be old to be on the ship as there are a lot of younger people (20-45s). That is the wonderful thing about cruising, there is a style of ship for most travellers and it is important to know what you want out of a cruise and find the company that suits you.
    I know that cruising is not for me because I like to be spontaneous when I travel and I cant do that on a ship.

    • @catrinlewis939
      @catrinlewis939 7 месяцев назад

      You could probably get away with it, if they fit well and aren't too tight. It depends a lot on the top you wear with them. A tunic that covers the tush would definitely be fine. Avoid the bare midriff style; that'd likely have the staff sending you back to your cabin from the buffet, let alone from the main dining room.

    Do most men in the UK, or at least most men who can afford that cruise, have a tuxedo already? I think I know one person who owns a tux and everyone else rents if they need one. I don't think I would want to rent a tux for a full week for going on a cruise.

  • @valtosheva

    This ship looks in a desperate need of bringing into 21st century - seriously outdated. Plus, you are vacationing. Vacation time is to unwind and relax. Suits are for the office, and tuxes are for special occasions. Just imagine the amount of luggage you need to bring along (and the airlines are likely to loose). Yep, grandma's house it is. Not our cup of tea, thanks...

    Definitely not for me. If I don't feel at ease in a t-shirt somewhere, I won't go there. I hate anything "Formal". In my mind it's just people who are more interested in "looking" than "being". I know that I should not generalize, but it's the feeling I have. I hate to have to conform to a code, dress or anything else.

    To add,Lucy.... Standards of dress have fallen significantly on cunard since 2020.much much stricter in 2017. If you wanted to see the best dresses the Queens room on gala nights is the place, some of the women's gowns are truly spectacular, very beautiful. And big competition for best dancers, great fun to watch couples try to out dance each other! , you didn't get near snooty because you didn't go to Queens grille s

      Actually it's been 9 years.....but with 2 - 3 years of professional training prior to that (including months at Steiner academy)
      She started her first contract (in the on-board spa, with Steiner) in early 2015.
      She shows this in some shots in one of her videos. She has explained that after a few contracts with them, she went and worked on-shore (in the UK) for a bit more than a year and then back on-board (in the retail shops, with Harding) for a few contracts. Then after Harding lost the retail contract with Virgin, as she was applying to the new contracting company (early 2023), she was recruited by another company and worked for them as a "shopping ambassador" for one 5-month contract (split between on two ships). And, for the past few years, in addition to working on-board herself, she has been hoping to improve her youtube channel and use it as a way to teach/inform/assist others in their desires to work on-board cruise ships, as well as expand vlogging / travel videos from a different perspective than you get from most other "professional travelers".
      I hope this explains things?

    I loved this Video Lucy, it would be really great if you could maybe explain the dress code on the most popular cruise lines, my husband, 17 year old son and I are looking to go on a cruise in April but I am a bit apprehensive about booking because of the dress code. We are not really ones for dressing up to the nines so I am a bit cautious about what cruise line would suit us. My husband I went on a Virgin Voyage in 2022 and absolutely loved it but sadly we cannot bring our son due his age.

    Done 4 Cunard cruises over the years and yes more formal than others, great on a shorter cruise 4 or 5 nights, grinds you down during a fortnight cruise, however you know the score before you book, so shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, really enjoyed my cruises on the old QE2, Victoria, Mary2 and Elizabeth. The only reason i haven't cruised more with them is they don't do a lot off med cruises and if they do not during the months that intrest me, very nice experience thou

      Why on earth not, they are the most flattering outfit and you can buy them pretty cheaply now and most people couldn't spot the difference between a £100 and £400 suit. Embrace your inner Bond! Just don't be an American with a white tux, they are for conductors and waiters😂
