Hello, I wanted to ask something. I need to have root canal treatment at the dentist, but I have never had local anesthesia before. My doctor told me that I should do an allergy test and gave me the medicine he used (ultracain) how is the allergy test done for this drug?
That wouldn’t normally be needed. Allergies to medication are highly unlikely if you have never had the medication before- they tend to occur on second or repeated exposure and we wouldn’t normally screen for drug allergies - it’s not actually that easy to test for. I would ask your dentist for advice. Drug allergy testing is complex and only done in Hospital usually. A referral would be declined if someone has never had the drug. Unless there’s a really good reason they are concerned you will react.

@@drhelenallergy I had a dust allergy in the past. Does local anesthesia trigger allergy?
@@philoaugust no. And a dust allergy or food allergies doesn’t put you at risk of drug allergy
