Ryan McNab 1995 Kenworth T900

Ryan McNab from Graintrans (based in Southbrook near Toowoomba, Qld) showed up to the Klassic to display the McNab family’s 1995 Kenworth T900 that they have owned for about 11 years, which they think may have been an ex-Parson’s vehicle. Up until a few years ago, this truck worked in the business, Graintrans, which was started by Ryan’s father around 1988/1989. Ryan started with the company in 2004, alongside both his elder and younger brother, all driving the trucks on grain transfer jobs.
The W Model had a Detroit Diesel engine in it when they first bought it, but they replaced this with a new, crated Cummins Signature engine about four years ago. It was repainted in 2016, and the other areas that needed to be addressed were stripping the double rails to fix the corrosion in between them, pulling out the rusted-out floor, and fixing up the bit of rust in the firewall. A 20 Series gearbox replaced the original single overdrive box, running through 3:7:1 ratio diffs to the truck’s original Kenworth Airglide 100 rear air suspension. Decked out in the Graintrans long-time colour scheme, the stripes on this truck are a dressed-up adaptation to earlier versions. The bumper bar came secondhand from a T950. The interior trim remains unchanged from when the truck was first acquired but there are future plans to replace this. The most recent change was to convert the 7” stack back to a 5” stack.
The remainder of the truck is pretty stock standard, as it would have come out of the factory. Since getting its new paint job in 2016, it has only done between 150,000 and 200,000 kilometres.
