little note: been about a week since this was recorded and ive since realized the lag doesnt really have much to do with the farm at all, so i may continue building. also completely open to constructive criticism on how to optimize this farm. im prob not gonna stress too much about it, but wanna make something helpful for those in ducktown
Add a bud switch to the sugarcane farm, it’ll automatically activate the farm, reducing wait time between harvest and over all increasing your yield of sugar cane
@@BoxBlair full auto farms aren't allowed on the server (apart from spawners) Also imo it's better to have a manual harvest anyway. With an auto harvest, the items will be sitting around on the ground for 5 mins causing a ton of lag (hence why they're not allowed) and there's a decent chance some will despawn before you pick them up anyway. With a manual harvest, all the cane will be at full height so you get max yield per harvest, plus you're already right there to pick up the items, meaning they don't cause too much lag
If you're going to expand it a lot, just harvest it in different sections (like one button per 2 rows). You can't store the sugarcane at that rate anyway, so it's unnecessary to harvest it all at once.
Bro I love ur content, u continued playing on beta 1.7.3 and must admit that focusing only on building stuffs rather than aiming for best gear in game is much enjoyable. It’s so funny how I categorize items in terms of needs on 1.7.3 For example diamonds are only used for tools, iron and gold are used for rails, coal is main fuel source and cobblestone and wood are two main building materials, why would I spent iron to make iron armor when I could connect another build with underground rail. Beta 1.7.3 is by far best Minecraft version if you are looking for some escape from modernity of Minecraft newest versions, especially when you are 10+ years experienced player and you are tired of flying 100k blocks away from spawn to find one thing
The lag may be caused partially by the sugarcane floating into the water, I know a lot of lag machines people build rely on entities bobbing around in water so maybe it's worth trying without the water to see if that helps. Also another idea would be having the machine trigger in sections, just so the entire thing doesn't fire at once (so you get more of a stream of sugarcane rather than one big burst).
If you stagger the harvesting into a couple sections and, say, 5 minutes between each section being harvested. Then you won't have hundreds upon hundreds of items on the ground at once. Depending on how long it takes the sugar cane to grow fully, you could have item despawn clocks in a loop of 30 minutes or whatever and every 5 minutes it harvests a section, allowing you to just idle.
Why not just make the pistons 2 tall so that all the sugar cane gets pushed at once and there's no losses? Idk maybe this has some flaws just spitballing
main flaw would be all the extra resources, that would require double iron for pistons and close to double redstone for powering. this method isn't completely lossless, but it gets ~2 sugarcane per piston rather than the alternative which is just 1

it's not a sugarcane farm it's a lag farm
lag was fixed, figured out during the week it wasnt related to the farm
glass-glowstone
exactly
Inflation has gotta be out of control on this server. You're basically printing money!

One of my new favorite RUclipsrs, even if it’s just a hobby I say keep going 10/10

I think the server rules don’t allow automatic red stone farms, so that’s why there’s a button, so it is semi automatic
I love conversations in chat
