I love Tort's, and I'm glad the front office has confidence in his abilities to coach this team. Will get on people's nerves, yes, he will, but when we see players excel under his direction that's what a good coach does. To the people who call him egotistical etc. I have to say they're wrong in their assessment. John Tortorella does everything he can to make this team better. He took a "starless" team this year to nearly making the playoffs. He did that by using the younger players to run with the ball. He's a damn good coach, and we are lucky to have him at the head of the Flyers coaching staff.

He is great for trying to change the culture back to what Flyers hockey is, but the negative side of Torts being the coach is that he gets so much out of his teams that they can’t honestly assess what they actually have as a team… and if they are a ways away….is it better for them to be one or two points out of playoff contention or bad enough to be in the running for a lottery pick. Being in the spot they are now is the worst possible position….they NEED to get the playoff experience OR they need to get another one or two possible franchise players… so hopefully they can draft well because they aren’t going backwards

He'll always be tough but fair. And if you stick with him he'll lead you to the promised land. He is perfect for Philadelphia. And I friggin hate Philadelphia. I'm a Bruins fan. Im with you on Drysdale though I was one of the only people it seemed who was not to thrilled about getting him because his injury issues have followed him his whole young career. I can see the dilemma of "is Torts the right coach for this team right now." Arguably he has gotten a lot out of the talent and the team has progressed under his leadership. He is an improved version over his past, but he needs to be better at certain things. Frank Seravalli pointed out a contrary argument of why Torts is not the right coach at this time with some compelling points. In the grand scheme, it is up to Danny and Jonesy to provide constructive feedback on his performance. The true fallout from the Coots benching remains to be seen. If that leads to Torts losing the room, then it will be a disaster next year. I hope the players reflect on the progress they made this season and focus on elevating their game to the next level. While a taste of the playoffs would have been fun, they likely would have been annihilated in the first round. I am not sure that would have been such a positive experience in the long run. Finally, they have to fix the PP or this team will go nowhere.

I coukd actually watch them play this year and be confident that it woukd always be a game and just not absolute pathetic play. Im excited. We already will be a different team again next year. Love Torts and the front office guys. Now it's time to REALLY look at each player and see if they have improved, can improve further, and how they fit into the future of the franchise. You need scorers, but you also need 3rd and 4th line guys. If a guy can't score consistently, he's not an offensive talent that can be depended on in the future (Frost comes to mind). Foerster improved throughout the season. Farabee is a solid 2nd liner, and he's still improving. Tippett and TK are top tier guys. Atkinson is done. Coots should have one more shot this year, but he was not the player he's been in the past, and I think part of that is the players he's playing with. He hasn't had playmaker, which he needs to succeed. They've got several players who can be really good 3rd liners, with some good offensive upside and very good defensive work, and will get paid commensurate to that role. There are guys who will get paid way more than the role they are going to play, and so shouldn't continue here. We have maybe 3-4 players that can be top 6 forwards. We have several defensemen that are solid players with no top pair or PP quarterback ability. So we need top tier talent, with the desire and worth ethic of most of this team this year. We just don't have the top end talent

Part of the problem with the power play is Frost was on it all year, and didn't produce much. I think Foerster should have gotten more time on the top unit. Also, we need more help on the defensive end for the power play. Not that some guys are inept, but you have NO power play talent on the blue line right now. Sanheim and York are serviceable. Zamula did well for a while then lost it. Drysdale is injured and hasn't really had a chance to show anything. Need a guy like Ghost with a monster shot from the point and can move around and move the puck.

Flyers need to dig deep in the offseason and truly find out which players have a problem with Tortorella and they need to get rid of every one of these entitled, soft losers...more "subtraction" is clearly needed...and naming Sean Couturier captain was a huge mistake(I think Torts reluctantly did it with a wait and see approach)...he's too mentally fragile and quiet to be a captain...he miserably failed his very first Tort's test after receiving the captaincy...it's like Claude Giroux all over again...good player overall, but horrible captain material...Torts is the most refreshing coaching hire in philly sports in over a decade...Any loser that can't play for him because he's too hard is just that...a loser...no more losers allowed on the ice...we need to add talent...but not if they're soft whiny losers with zero backbone...Joel Farabee, see ya...Couturier is untradeable, otherwise he'd be gone...Cam Atkinson(even though he likes Torts overall), see ya...I've seen enough of Jamie Drysdale's personality to know that he's not gonna be able to handle Torts...there's about 3 or 4 more guys that hate Torts...those cancers need to be cut out...if Torts is too offensive to your sensibilities, you need to be shipped out...This is one of the greatest coaching hires in Flyers history...imagine having a coach that has total transparency and brutal honesty in regards to your play, good or bad, and keeps an open door policy where you can go into his office any time you want to verbally assault him and he won't take it personally...in fact, he'll respect you more for it...some of these whiny players are too arrogant to realize how good a situation that really is...where all his players are treated equally and fairly no matter what their "status" is...benching Couturier was not only warranted, but could have been done even sooner...absolutely loved that move...a coach with the balls to do what needed to be done even though it would ruffle some feathers...how can you not respect that...now if we could only draft a future captain that hates losing so much that he'll punch walls, throw chairs, get in people's faces when needed, and even take the initiative of benching himself when he sucks for 2 months straight so the coach doesn't even have to make the decision...a real captain will make the decision for him

I said at the beginning of the season that this was a team that could finish between 4th and 6th in their division, 8-12 in the conference. That is how much talent there is. Injuries and subtractions hurt that, but where they finished is reasonable. Did the fanboys who don't know hockey start talking about being condensers in January, when good terms were still coasting? Yes. Were they stupid? Yes.
This team will miss Carter Hart. Fedotov may help. But they have needed major help on D and at center for years. And some of their highest paid "stars" have demonstrated time and again that they can't play playoff hockey. Don't wait until you have to pay someone to take them.

Torts needs to take a look at his own choices, and make a better choice of messaging at times.
Scratching the Captain ended the season… calling the team soft after being down by three and in the third period they fight and get it to overtime but then a bad mistake loses the game for them in OT…don’t need to insult them in that moment…and there’s a few moments like that where I think that even a handful of instances could have been the difference…. He’s a great coach, but sometimes he’s his own worst enemy

This is a coach who won't drive you to the peak of the mountain, but he'll get you half way up the mountain quicker.
Hopefully Flyers brass finds the coach that knows how to win in the modern NHL.
Torts is fine for where they are now, but that next coach is the most important decision Danny and co. will make.

It's not good for any team when the face of the franchise is the head coach. Torts sucks up all the oxygen and that's not a good thing.
When is a leader(s) going to emerge in that dressing room? It's certainly not the captain/whippy boy they chose.

Torts must be held accountable for his many mistakes. The year long poor power play and 3 on 3 results is a coaching issue. With Torts vision, I suspect it was like placing a square peg in a round hole without player input and proper use of players. Add in Torts unfairness and intimidation towards players and I am afraid the atmosphere is not right for the development of skilled players. He talks change but uses the same old antics.
It appears that Torts is doing everything to make it about himself. He set the bar low and is now taking credit for the success. Its only natural that a young team will improve regardless of the coach. It is more likely that Torts has held the team back with his antics and his poor coaching decisions.
