    I’ve watched a lot of videos from Australia on the overland trailers, I’m glad to find one that’s US made and supported.

      There are many US made overland trailers. Turtleback for instance is very well known.

      Schutt Industries is another. And they make all the trailers the Australian government buys too.

    The display trailer that is being shown has a lot of options on it. I was hoping that more of the features that were being shown were standard equipment. I priced one out on the website and it had $12,100 in options to look like the model shown.

    Never been able to figure why on a trailer that will weigh MAX, about 1500 lbs, you would put springs on it that would suport a dump truck. Might as well weld the axle to the frame. Springs are made to soften the ride, so why not use springs that will soften the ride, not beat the crap out of everything inside!

    • @backwoodsXJ
      @backwoodsXJ 5 лет назад +6

      @jrg10332 Show me any trailer thats three point suported that truly articulates the suspension. They don't except for a micro second. Four wheels is different, they have to articulate in order to keep weight on all four wheels. Any three points will NEVER articulate except for tiny second when it hits a rock. But 3500 lbs is WAY overkill. It just beats everythng inside to pieces when suspension is this stiff. I have built MANY trailers and have proven this out over and over.

    All this effort and (over)engineering went into this fantastic aluminum trailer, and then they go ahead and use rubber instead of metallic suspension springs! A certain failure point and absolutely unbelievable!

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  5 лет назад +1

      Apparently with the weight if this trailer the axleless setup works well based on real world testing. I initially had the same thought.

    • @thepilotxproject4035
      @thepilotxproject4035 5 лет назад +5

      Rubber overheats when going over bumpy surfaces, and it will eventually fall apart. Not to mention that this type of suspension design has limited suspension travel. I used to work as a vehicle designer and this is one of the best trailers I 've ever encountered, but, in all seriousness, that suspension system really destroys such a great effort.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  5 лет назад +3

      @@thepilotxproject4035 I wouldn't think a trailer your just dragging behind would need much travel. Since the wheels aren't driving is it as important they stay connected to the ground like the driveline of the vehicle

    • @thepilotxproject4035
      @thepilotxproject4035 5 лет назад +4

      @@SirWilliamGoes Generally I agree with this statement, it's just that at this level of engineering someone would expect a suspension at least as good as the ones used in most Australian trailers. Even a solid axle on leaf springs is more reliable than rubber.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  5 лет назад +1

      @@thepilotxproject4035 yeah I'm not sure as I haven't researched either to really form an opinion. I trust these guys opinion on it though and I trust that if they became an issue it would get taken care of. I would think with the less moving parts the better. I prefer an all in one vehicle myself.

    I am glad to see more choices for overlanders in the US. But know that there are TONS of companies now making pretty much the same trailers. I understand wanting to let manufacturers have a good face, and helping push their products, but I came to this video because the thumbnail said "the best"... and it simply is not, given any number of metrics. Is it good? Sure. But there are some questionable items, and like I said, there are many others pretty similar to it, if not better. If you are going to keep doing these types of shows, I would suggest not being so quick to assign the term "the best" without a LOT more research. but thanks for the video. Cheers!

    • @SirWilliamGoes

      What makes this a sub par trailer in your opinion and which would you consider to be the best and why?

    • @void970t5
      @void970t5 5 лет назад

      Agreed this trailer is pretty much identical to every other trailer on the market.

    • @toddhoffmaster6057
      @toddhoffmaster6057 4 года назад +2

      There are many overland trailers yes, but not very many (all aluminum) built trailers. Very well built from what the video shows and the price I am sure is way over the price of a comparable sized and featured all steel trailer. Personally, I would rather have a solid axle and leaf springs or coils. I figure if a solid axle is good enough for my Jeep then it is good enough for the trailer. How often do you see especially on RUclips, a vehicle and trailer combo on a trail and the trailer is hung up on an obstacle - by the axle?

    Nice trailer, my only issue is that if you’re travelling somewhere that is days away from anyone and something breaks, how do you fix it ? With a steel trailer on a straight axle with leaf springs you could fix nearly anything with some welding rods and a set of jumper cables, you can’t really carry a mig welder and everything else to fix this trailer.

    • @SirWilliamGoes

      Agreed. Teardrops that are actually made for offroad use - metal rather than plywood, heavier frames and suspensions, end up costing 25K and up. Look at Off Grid Trailers, Mission Overland, Overkill, etc. You can spend 5K on a utility trailer, 12 to 30K for an off-road cargo with power and options, or 25-55K for an off-road Teardrop or camper.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  2 года назад

      The market determines price. What people will pay is what its value is. Though i think you’d be hard pressed to get this built for 6k. And even if it is only 6k worth of “stuff” you still gotta put all the “stuff” together. 5$ worth a plastic in a 10$ toy is a bad use of 5$ plastic. 5$ worth of plastic in a 600$ camera is a good use. Its kinda along those same lines. Thanks for watching
