This is a great series of videos but the illustration on Tony's shot wasn't accurate. He was much straighter on the 9, which created the bad angle. Here's the video: watch?v=aiX5ASPZwUU
7:14 why is this an animelike life experience? I mean, I imagined the scene where he's scared about the balls position and all of sudden time stops and he thinks about that one guy who told him this shot in a black and White flashback
I made the first kick shot they showed but on the nine ball one time when I was playing in a scotch doubles tournament at Myrtle Beach which ended up winning my team the game and I'm pretty proud of that shot
and then, after 45 minutes of thinking, I saw it the winning play was right in front of my eyes and, after a deep breath I moved my pawn forward one square
I had a hard time hitting a ball in a straight line into a hole. Seriously this was this one shot where the white was really close to a ball that was aligned with a hole, I managed to make the white jump over the ball I was aiming. I couldn't even do that if I tried..
It’s a shame that Pool is no longer on TV and poker has taken over. Pool is truly a beautiful and magnificient game. The players on TV make it look way more easy than it really is. It’s one of the hardest games to play and these players are running racks and racks of 9 or 10 ball, getting 50+ balls in without missing while amateur players like us can’t even string together 3 balls.
Honestly, I like it better that way. There is so much money in bet games. When pool was on TV everyone and their mom was familiar with the game. Now most people see it as a novelty to pass the time in a bar. Get good and you can absolutely load up your pockets before you even break a sweat.
Jennifer, great story about going into '"f**k it" stroke. But before that, was something just as meaningful. Taking a break, you revealed your embarrassment to your opponent. Instead of bashing you while you were down with some hurtful comment, she was encouraging, a real human being hearing your pain. Despite losing the match, and being upset about, the woman had a moment of greatness every bit the equal to your outstanding play, only different. It was uplifting to hear of her empathy as well as your fine comeback. I hope I get a chance to be as good as either part of the story - the kindness, or the comeback.
Lol yes fuckit mode is a thing. I literally laughed out loud when I heard her say that. Enguag fuckit mode is a crazy Jedi mind trick that actually works when all is lost.
7:50. I can imagine the opponent thinking "ah, I've got him now. That shots not possible!* *ball spins through the air and rolls backwards off the nine* "but... what...?"
Thorsten probably never even got paid in full for that tournament win. The IPT went bust and took the whole sport of pool with it. It hasn't been the same since.
The BCA and quite a few people in the industry are partly to blame for the way the sport is in America now, especially when you have so many people organising independent tours/tournaments and not enough legitimate professional tournaments being organised and governed by the BCA as it should be done. America needs the BCA to be made relevant and the dominant governing body again... or the players, tournament organisers and industry members need to form a new governing body that will see them all working together to make the sport better, stronger and more rewarding for everyone involved so it's a win/win for players, the industry and the sport.
The IPT was conceived and created by a criminal conman named Kevin Trudeau. Mr. Trudeau was once sentenced to 10 years of prison time for a particularly egregious con.
In the first shot on the 1, why did you need to cannon into the 2 ball to develop it. It must've gone in anyway if you were able to kick it into the middle?
It's for position on the next ball. Developing the 2 into a complete hanger with a full pocket width to play position with is much easier than using the tiny clearance the 2 ball has if it were not moved. With such a small clearance near the side pocket point, you also can't use much power, which makes setting up position that much harder. Well worth the effort to do so, but as we saw, the risk is overshooting the 2 and ending up with a guaranteed cut scratch into the side
She is jacked up over the 9 ball making a rather thin cut shot. Trying to slow roll a ball to hold shape is never a good ideal and when you add in the element of being jacked up it make a hard shot even harder. She shot the correct shot but apparently didn't execute it correctly or misjudged the path of the cue ball.
1:20 This is why you NEVER show remorse to your opponent. Not until the game has ended. In all sports, not just pool. Even if the opponent's a nice person and you are really sorry. This gives your opponent a huge boost, AND makes you play worse.
Used to play as a kid and got surprisingly good. I would make 3 out of every 5 jump shots attempted. I was also good at banking but could not hit a ball straight into the pocket for the life of me lol
At an amateur level, pool is all about making a ball. In professional play, it's all about controlling the cue ball. It's a game that has a never-ending skill cap, and if you want, you can learn something quite literally _every single time_ you step to the table. In my 20's, all I did was drive around to bars and pool halls that had free pool night and I would just play and play and play. Mostly by myself. If I missed a shot, I would get those binder reinforcement stickers, and I would set up the shot with the balls placed on top of them, and I would play that shot over and over and over again until I never missed it. Unfortunately pool is a diminishing skill, so the more you play, the better you get, but it also works in reverse. I'm not nearly as good as I once was. It's why you get so many older guys in the bar going "back in my day I could have made this with my eyes closed" or "I wouldn't have lost if you played me 10 years ago!"
@@ojl5055 You are wrong.
