Min wage 15 an hour. That's 600 a week before taxes. 2400 a month. 30% of 2400 is 720. If we expect everyone to have a roof. All areas, rich and poor have to have places available to rent for 720 a month. But the rich want the poor to drive an hour or two to get into their areas to work at 6 dollars a gallon and still pay 2k for rent. This is not going to end well.

Living in your vehicle is illegal in many towns, so if you park legally then go to sleep, expect to get woken up by police tapping on your window, either forcing you to move on or receive a ticket for violating the city law. So yeah, being homeless sucks.
As if someone napping in their car is REALLY doing harm or hurting anyone!!! Never heard of something so irrational and absurd!!! Rent in current apartment going up by $300….. I will be moving out. I feel for people in this situation. These apartment rents are increasing…. And these aren’t luxury apartments. It’s ridiculous.
If 20% of landlords in America are foreigners, what percentage of landlords in Florida are from outside of the US? There are some countries that have banned the purchase of properties from people outside of their countries because they were causing the rents to be too high.
A lot of people don't understand the situation. I see a lot of mean comments but the reality is that other countries are buying our land and houses and leaving us on the streets. Wake up people!
❗ people from India come over here and cram themselves into one house or apartment until they can buy somebody a gas station or a cheap hotel and then they do the next one like that until everybody has one, but we can't get along with our families to do that for one another we don't have the love or discipline.
Where I live you can't just cram people into an apartment. For example the maximum number of people allowed to live in a studio is 2, a 1 bedroom apartment 3 and so on. Back in the 90s there were 4 of us living in a studio and there were no issues but everything is more strict and expensive now.

I saw many years ago when my husband and l rented our first house. After rent increased l looked at the math and it told me to buy a house. People are in big trouble relying on landlords for long term shelter. Hope everyone here can buy a house.
What world are you living in? Are you aware of what's going on with the U.S economy? Everything is unaffordable. Most people are struggling to survive. GOOH! (Get Out Of Here). Smh
It’s as if the adult population entering the workforce has increased 50% in the last 5 years and new available housing has gone up only 20% in the last 10years. If this trend continues, it will only get worse as demand to available housing ratios move farther apart.
1/3 of Florida houses are owned by investment companies or snow birds. If a third of the inventory is taken up by non-floridians, Floridians will suffer.
Yes, scant building of homes from 2008 to 2021. It's not worth it for builders to build affordable housing, I'm seeing moderate to high end properties being built where I live.

Try being on disability and no way to get an increase on pay except for possibly once a year. Both myself and my husband are disabled veterans and we get a certain amount of monthly income. I'm afraid of the landlord raising our rent and not being able to afford it. Between the two of us we are lucky if we make $1800 a month. SS clumps married people together and you are allowed to make so much per month otherwise you get nothing. Even though you both worked all your life you aren't separate people according to SS when you start collecting your either disability or retirement.
i'm disable with parkinsons, I get 1300 a month every dollar goes to bill, My pension check goes for food every bit of that is gone, I work part time 1 day a week most of it is gone, Last paid day just did have enough to stop by race trac on the way to work and get a choc milk and 2 honey buns for that night
The disabled and elderly should automatically get housing vouchers. Unfortunately I am seeing parolees and others placed in emergency housing while people in wheelchairs and chronic ill health are sleeping on the streets!
When the cost of rent, food, gas and everything skyrockets but wages remain flat (except for owners, officers, board members, etc.), more people will be forced onto the streets or inside their cars. It’s getting to the point more and more working people can’t afford the cost of living.

Standup against what? Landlords own property and rent to people to make enough money to pay mortgages, maintenance, property taxes, and other expenses. They also need to make some money, why else would they rent? The government needs to stay out of what property owners do with their own property. Landlords need tenants to make money, if no one rents their units, they lose money. So, apparently there are a lot of people that can afford rent. Personally, I wouldn't rent to the people in this story for a number of reasons. They need to move somewhere they can find jobs and afford rent, not everyone can afford to live in Florida.
@@trtommy3337 That's the whole truth of the matter. It's not the owners that are the bad guys. Remember people did not pay rent for over a year from covid. How many tenants think the landlord had to continue paying the note?
I can't. My mother, brother and step dad live with me right now, along with my adult son and two cats. I'm currently trying to get us a bigger home. If I could help them, trust me, I would.

This is very sad. Could this couple rent a 3 or 4 bedroom house or apartment and live in the living room? They could share with 3 or 4 individuals or families and let them take the 3 or 4 bedrooms. I only suggest this because my wife and I bought a 5 bedroom house in an expensive area of the San Francisco Bay Area. My wife and 3 kids moved into one bedroom (5 of us sharing 1 bedroom) and rented out 4 bedrooms. I'm a software engineer and my wife has a masters degree. The people and/or families that have rented our bedrooms over the years have included research scientists, associate professors, visiting professors (to UC Berkeley), nurses, grad students at UC Berkeley or Mills College, and other professionals. When our kids buy their first house in the heart of Silicon Valley they already know to move into the laundry room and rent out all bedrooms and possibly the living room too. In our case we had to live like this for more than 2.5 years before we were in a position to take over the entire house with no need for renters and our 3 kids getting their own bedroom.
Most people I know have no ability to buy a big house like that. Hell, most people I know don’t have the ability to buy a 2 bedroom house. But I do agree that somewhere in the near future we are going to have to think about communal living, either in a dwelling or on a piece of land. I know I’m barely getting by in a 1 bedroom apartment.
@@Sarah-lb8cs - I'm really sorry to hear about your financial struggle. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to not be getting ahead as the years go by. I don't know your situation, but would getting roommates be possible as a temporary solution, say trying this for one year? Suffering for 1 year sucks but if I know it will end I find it somewhat bearable. If you could rent a 3 bedroom apartment or house and split three ways (or 4 ways and you convert the living room) then your portion of rent will be less than you pay now for your 1-bedroom. You're probably not in a position to be the only person on the lease, but assuming you can figure out a way to be responsible for the full rent, you could even live almost rent free by living in the living room and your roommates take all 3 bedrooms (and they pay nearly all of the rent).
That is how it is going to be 20 people living in a 3 br/2 bath house. We're doing the 3rd world immigrant thing.. good enough for the 3rd world good enough for America
@@cynthiaconner8601 - living in a house or apartment crammed full of roommates sounds like a terrible way to live, but after doing this myself it's not as bad as you would think. First this is temporary. When we bought our house we had (at the most) 11 people in our 5 bed/3 bath house. 5 of us were crammed into a single bedroom (me, my wife, and 3 kids). After about 2.5 years we were in a position that we could have taken over the other 4 bedrooms but we voluntarily choose to rent two bedrooms. It's been 10 years and even now we still rent 1 bedroom. We do this more for "giving back" then the need for extra rent money...because we no longer need the rent money. Before buying our house we rented a 950 sq-ft 2 bed/1 bath. At one point we had 7 people in that very small rental house - me, my wife, 3 babies, + 2 distant relatives that helped with our 3 babies in exchange for amazing job opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area. I completely agree with you that the goal should be living with just your family in your house, but I think it's OK to live crammed up like goats for only a year, maybe two, if you really need to dig your way out of a big financial hole, save up for a down payment, or just need to save up a huge pile of cash as fast as possible. As you say, "...If it's good enough for a software engineer in Silicon Valley, it's good enough for America..."

They don’t make enough to qualify for a place of that size in the first place. That’s the major hurdle.
