  • Hello. Not so long ago I got an old rare motorcycle that is 52 years old. This is a Pannonia made in Hungary. The motorcycle is very old and you need to approach its restoration carefully. Enjoy your viewing.

    Very surprised the badly rusted cylinder could be restored with pot scouring pads and a hand drill. Would have thought it needed a professional rebore and new, larger piston and piston rings. Fascinating to see a derelict bike coming back to life 👍👍👍

    When You would heat up the crankcase in an oven to approx. 150°C removal and fitting of the bearings is a lot easier and the danger of damaging the bearing- seats is smaller

    Some of your methods are really interesting, some are very questionable. You dismantle roller bearings ( and later install them ) without heating a crankcase, you clean a rust from a cylinder and piston and assemble it together without any measurements, not knowing about their clearance. Normal practice is to install a piston after checking a clearance between cylinder and a piston is still within factory limits. What did you do about the rings? Cylinder should be at least honed to make running in available. As assembled by you it could work properly, or not - nobody can tell. I don't know why did you used paper for engine gaskets, when better products are available. Some of this was already mentioned in comments. Really curious about the rest of the bike - frame painting, front and rear suspension and brakes restoration.

    Cannot understand why you took the bearings apart and washed the pre lubricant out? Then played with one and bounced it on a concrete floor, that would allow dust into the bearing! 2 strokes rely on crankcase pressure but you removed the side covers from the bearings? Is there a reason for that? I am intrigued!!

    • @oldtimer-Z
      @oldtimer-Z Год назад

      The bearing that ended on the floor is part of fun , to show you what will happen when bearing is spinning at high rotation speed ,and they get loose . The crankcase will still have pressure because of shaft seal that goes before bearings . You need to remove side covers from bearings so that the oil can freely lubricate the bearing . You can ,but you doesn't need to remove grease from bearing . It is wise not to remove grease from 2 stroke crankshaft bearings ,if you remove grease , then you need to put some oil . When it comes to 4 stroke engine ,all bearings are lubricated with oil ( they are swimming in oil ). In 2 stroke engine the gearbox is lubricated with oil ,while crankshaft and crankshaft bearings are lubricated with fuel vapors ( that's why it's better to leave grease in the bearing ).

    When you received sealed bearings, why did you remove the seals? Wouldn't it be better to keep them sealed? Or do they bathe in the crankcase oil?

      I wondered the same thing. He removed the seals.

    • @Fminus104
      @Fminus104 Год назад +1

      It´s a two troke, mate. The gearbox is separate from the crankcase. Gearbox is filled with oil, crankcase not! Crankcase bearings are lubricated by two stroke oil mixed to the fuel. If you leave the seals and use the greased bearings they will wear very quickly. They don´t stand heat and fuel. Sealing of the crankcase is done by the black seals he puts in seperately.

    • @Dogapult
      @Dogapult Год назад +1

      @@Fminus104 Interesting! I knew the 2-stroke part, but I'd forgotten the lack of crankcase oil. Thank you for the explanation.
