But during the time of our ancestors, before the arrival of the Pākehā, each region would unite to defend themselves from outside war parties. Once peace had settled, there was assurance that leadership, and collectiveness would remain with its origin.

"Our people must carefully consider our place and detach ourselves from the government stronghold" Bayden Barber hear hear, for to long all political parties have interfered with who we are as Maori. We were Maori before they arrived and we are Maori today.
If Kotahitanga in practice means the possible unity of my two Iwi in my rohe, then im all for that. If my two Iwi fail to unite, then the leadership we so desperately desire to actualise Kotahitanga, dose not exists in my rohe at this time. Building our "brand" is important I think, but not at the expense of Kotahitanga.
I admired Bayden Barber and Rahui Papa's korero immensely. Level headed, wise, intelligent, and insightful in a time when it is most needed.

Unite under as the Independent sovereign nation. Two state Nation is inevitable. a lot of mahi for every rohe for Infrastructure. New zealand government and parliament can just be over there, making a mess as per usual.
Need a name though as independent sovereign nation. Aotearoa? Maybe? Nu Tireni maybe as it is mentioned in He Wakaputanga and TTOW (Nu Tirani). Māoriland? Māoria? Kingdom of Māoriland?
also I think all the other uri / iwi should appoint a King or Queen for their lands; individual sovereign states with a head of state (sovereign) within the Kingdom of Māoriland. The Upper and Lower House.
But tikanga and ALL tangata whenua be involved in the decision making instead of just the ones at the top have all the "power". If it's going to be the same stupid system as New Zealand government then we may as well stay dumbed down with them.
