Story (supervision) by John Foster; music by Philip A. Scheib {"Krakatoa Katie" by Scheib and Tom Morrison}. Katie's dance animated by Carlo Vinci (and reused in the 1950 Gandy Goose cartoon, "Comic Book Land").
Our Pappa would import these cartoons for my my brother and I to watch. They were funny and engaging. As children, we loved the suspence and cartoon drama. Never was there a thought of anything unnatural . Mighty was a boy and Katy was a girl.. all very normal ..boy saves girl. We knew that adults had licence of expression that had not come to us as children. I view this cartoon with fondness and warm memories. Now we live in a society fueled by millenial paranoia ; where such natural fun and humor would be banned. In so many ways , the golden age of cartoons was a reflection of the true pulse of humanity ...able and willing to see itself" for it's wonderful fallibility.
Krakatoa is an island in Indonesia, originally called the Dutch East Indies. When this cartoon was produced in 1945 it was the last year of World War II and it was under Japanese occpation. The music in this episode makes it sound more like it's in Hawaii. The instument playing is a ukelele.
+mm43501 I appreciate your comment, but I'm really not a Mighty Mouse expert. Mighty Mouse wasn't exactly one of my favorite cartoons. But I did enjoy watching him as kid. It's only in recent years that I've come to really appreciate Mighty Mouse and the mouse babes he's rescued, especially Pearl Pureheart. I don't know if there is an episode in which Krakatoa Katie kissed Mighty Mouse.
+mm43501 Like I said, I don't think there is such a version of that episode. Krakatoa Katie only appeared in only one Mighty Mouse cartoon. Have you noticed how beautiful the animation was in this cartoon? Especially the shot when the tide comes in out on the beach? That's surprising since the Terrytoons were not know for good animation.
+mm43501 The Terrytoons were designed more for children than they were for older kids and adults at a time when cartoons were geared more adults. Terrytoons was one of the few studios that churned out theatrical cartoons from the 1930s, 40s and 50s that were kiddie oriented. It wasn't until the 1950s when Mighty Mouse and his other Terrytoons pals came to television their popularity really soared They were a fixture for children's television from the 1950s into the 1990s. The Terrytoons were the least impressive theatrical cartoons so I've heard. But they're beautiful compared to the made for tv cartoons like Hanna-Barbera with their limited animation. However, I enjoy the Hanna-Barbera cartoons much more than the Terrytoons despite the poor animation. OT Hanna-Barbera compensated for it's short comings with strong voices and good voice talents like Daws Butler, Don Messick, Mel Blanc, John Stephenson, Hal Smith, Alan Melvin, Jean Vanderpyl, and Frank Welker much later, something Terrytoons never had and could never compete with. None of the voice talents at that studio worked for Hanna-Barbera not even it's most famous voice talent, Dayton Allen.
+mm43501 Perhaps the most successful and funniest Terrytoon cartoons were the brash and antagonistic magpie team Heckle and Jeckle. Their cartoons were a far cry from the gentle and cutsie -poo characters like Mighty Mouse, Gandy Goose and Dinky Duck. Heckle Jeckle were more like Bugs Bunny and Woody Woodpecker and could appeal to adults. Both characters were very lovable. The one Hanna-Barbera cartoon that stands out from all the rest is THE FLINTSTONES. It had alot of charm, the characters were good, it was very funny and it was the first prime time tv cartoon. Giving it an appeal to both kids and adults alike. While Mighty Mouse and the other Terrytoons were rather childish and not very remarkable, they're better than watching the SIMPSONS; I hate that show! Even if it is for adults. If given the choice of watching the SIMPSONS and Mighty Mouse I'd watch the latter. Believe me, one "Here I Come to Save the Day!" Is worth 100 "Don't Have a Cow Mans."
+mm43501 Wow! You said a mouthful. I tell you, as a kid, I enjoyed Mighty Mouse. Not as much Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Popeye, Woody Woodpecker and the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, but I enjoyed MM nevertheless more so than even Disney even if he was an artistic genius. What do you mean by an arbitrary choice in arts? The problem with the Mighty Mouse cartoons was they were victims of formula, the same repetition; Mighty Mouse would always come to rescue of mice in particular sexy mouse babes and defeat the evil oppressor cats. He would come to the save the day like his trademark song in many an episode. Not only that he would often appear near the end of the cartoon to save the day and he didn't speak in most episodes. The only time Mighty Mouse had a voice was in the operaettic mellerdramas in particular with Oil Can Harry and Pearl Pureheart which were the best MM cartoons IMO.But MM sang instead of talked. One of the things that make the Mighty Mouse cartoons worth watching are the sexy mouse girls he saves. But in 1979 when the made for tv Filmation cartoon THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY MOUSE aired, he did talk and always came to Pearl Pureheart's rescue from the evil clutches of Oil Can Harry both of whom appeared in every episode of the series as co-stars. He also spoke in every episode of the hilarious but controversial MIGHTY MOUSE: THE NEW ADVENTURES in the late 80s created by Ralph " FRITZ THE CAT" Bakshi. Remember those cartoons? When you said that the Disney cartoons were more for adults than the WBs, do you mean the sophisticated state of the art animation and the hard work that went into producing those cartoons and that film afficianados and adults could appreciate more than the brash hilarious WB characters like Bugs Bunny? Maybe so. But I still like the Warner Brothers cartoons over Disney. Bugs Bunny is my favorite cartoon character and Mighty Mouse is much more entertaining than Mickey Mouse while Pearl Pureheart is way prettier than Minnie Mouse and more sophisticated too. I like Oil Can Harry, MM's archenemy more than the villainous Peg Legged Pete from the Mickey Mouse cartoons. As for you hoping that I'm talking about the SIMPSONS' tenth season and onward being terrible, I'm not, I hate the SIMPSONS in general. I only watched a few episodes of it and didn't like it. It just wasn't for me. However, I did like SOUTH PARK when it ran on Comedy Central, but I haven't watched it for a while. SOUTH PARK is a funny and clever cartoon with very good story lines, despite the fact the characters on the show have potty mouths and the content is very disgusting. SOUTH PARK is defenitely not for kids or even family like the SIMPSONS. It was on at ten o'clock at night. The SIMPSONS is the greatest show to ever grace television? C'mon! Unless you mean it's one of the greatest cartoons to ever grace television which even then I emphatically disagree. Did you know that the Mighty Mouse cartoon GYPSY LIFE was nominated an academy award for best for 1945? I guess the Terrytoons couldn't be all bad if their biggest star almost won an academy award. Paul Terry was known for producing his cartoons at the lowest possible cost. He saw animation more as a business than an art form. I didn't know that until reading Leonard Maltin's Of Mice and Magic. But I did notice as a kid that the Terrytoons of the 1950s looked no different from the ones of 1940s.
The 1940's were the era of cartoons. Nothing like them. By the way, don't think they were made for kids. These cartoons were shown before a feature movie. You can spew out all your PC nonsense about them and morally posture yourself in front of others for the benefit of your own ego but they were just fun. Nothing more.
You dislike PCness too? so do i. What about the 50s especially Rocky and Bullwinkle? What about Watership Down, WIzards, Fantastic Planet, Duckman (Remember that show on USA Network in the 90s), Ren and Stimpy, Simpsons (90s), American Pop, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ninja Scroll, Princess Mononoke etc.? those were animations not for kids and for adults.
How is this cartoon politically incorrect? Why would the politically correct storm troopers as some people call them find this cartoon politically incorrect?
I bet the politically correct people would have no problem with Mighty Mouse kissing Oil Can Harry because that symbolizes tolerance for homosexuality.
I like how they offer up all their best women to Mighty Mouse in gratitude for saving their skins , & he takes them up on it. That's why he's better than Superman.
I was just thinking about Krakatoa Katie so I looked it up. Haven't seen the cartoon since I was a kid a long time ago. What a treat.I alway liked Mighty Mouse.

as kids we never thought of these cartoons as sexy, we were kids for heavens sake! took an adult to see them as something dirty and remove them and then explain it to kids why they weren't allowed to watch them. not to mention the "violence", oh my. never had to tell us, "don't try this at home" we were smart enough to know better i guess. still love these cartoons because I think they are just plain cute and fun. we never found the need to analyze everything to death!

there's no such things like aloha and o e a waw pu na na nu nu unyu unyu at Krakatoa, don't tell lies to your kiddos but the volcano scene looks pretty cool
What’s that word in the song where it says, “when she starts to shake her. . .?” I looked at one website and it said that the word is “sarong”. Is that correct?
I always thought it was funny when I had been a kid that boys didn’t wear shorts back then and there weren’t tops for women. My parents and grandparents and so on were born in Indonesia so I heard the stories. So when I mentioned this my Mom looked at my Pop and said differently your zoom (son).
It's a pontoon, very typical of a Polynesian canoe. It works by floating, so the boat can't tip such as to sink the pontoon, and it's also heavy, so the boat can't tip the other way, lifting it into the air. Actually pretty clever if you think about it.
To Spike Reilly. I'm sorry I can't directly reply to your reply from 18 hours ago. I'm having trouble with my computer where I can't directly reply to other people's replies in repsonse to my comments. When I buy a new computer I will directly respond to other replies. Now I'm gonna ask you a question in four simple words in response to your reply 18 hours ago. I hope you see it and respond back whenever. "Are you a furry?"
Me too! i saw these classic cartoons 30 and 31 years ago when i was 3 and 4 even had a tape of Fairy Tale classics with Terrytoon fairy tale stories in it when i was little and i also remember the 80s Mighty Mouse show on CBS when i was 5 and 6
Pearl Pureheart would not like this cartoon at all. Especially if Krakatoa was dancing with Mighty Mouse. Fortunately for the both of them Pearl, hadn't made the scene yet.
Call me a killjoy, but animation has almost always seemed utterly grotesque to me, even if sometimes comical what with anthropomorphic animals and out and out sadistic action a la the Popeye, Casper, and Little Audrey cartoons which were made around the same era as this one. Later on, Jonny Quest and Speed Racer certainly had their share of violence, but at least the human characters were reasonably proportionate and attractive looking. And as for Family Guy, The Simpsons, and anime, don't get me started.
To all you "furries" out there. I know she isn't in this picture, but what female mouse do you think is prettier? Pearl Pureheart or Minnie Mouse? I choose the former.
+Johnlindsey289 I thought Pearl Pureheart was your true love. In many of your comments for all the Mighty Mouse videos I've read how you wrote Pearl was a cute mouse chick and that you had a big crush on her.
You're watching talking, singing, and dancing rodents, one of whom flies around in the air, with the ability to subdue an erupting volcano using his smoke contrails like a lasso, and somehow this is all supposed to be historically and culturally accurate too?
Ooh my goodness I feel old watching this!! Over 50 years ago I loved this one when I was a little kid!
I loved Mighty Mouse as a little girl! This is my favorite, MM episode. Thank you for posting :)

what went on in Hawaii 9 months ago?
Krakatoa is where the volcano blew up and destroyed about half of the island. it was the loudest sound ever
No kidding. It was heard by a British sailor in the Indian Ocean, almost 4000 miles away. Loudest sound in recorded history, anyway
This is 6th favourite.

Ricky. PERSIJA Pardosi A volcano that erupts with train sound would always be cool!
What’s that word in the song where it says, “when she starts to shake her. . .?” I looked at one website and it said that the word is “sarong”. Is that correct?
2.42 THAT'S NOT KRAKATOA! IT'S MT. CHOO CHOO!!!
He chocked out a volcano 😂
I love the song
🚨MIGHTY MOUSE SNIFFS A LINE OF COCAINE FROM BEHIND HIS CAPE ...I KID YOU NOT .
is Mighty Mouse 🐭 is Deus ex Machina of ever cartoon that terry toon ever made ?
Did you notice that all the mice in this cartoon had tails except Krakatoa Katie?
brian sedlock - That's because she's quite the piece of tail.
whad'ya mean she's quite the piece of tail?
She was giving Mighty Mouse some tail, you bet ya!

Hi I'm not
I always thought it was funny when I had been a kid that boys didn’t wear shorts back then and there weren’t tops for women. My parents and grandparents and so on were born in Indonesia so I heard the stories. So when I mentioned this my Mom looked at my Pop and said differently your zoom (son).
Boa noite a todos uma ótima semana muito abençoada por Deus a vocês todos de eu gosto muito desse desenho
They looks pretty:3
This is literally Indonesia, not Hawaii.

MELANIA & TRUMP. LOVE THIS AWESOME VIDEO. HOPE TO RECEIVE MANY MORE.
What are those things sticking out of the canoes at 1:12-1:19 if you don't mind me asking?
A stabilizer
+Lawrence Leith thanks
+brian sedlock If I'm more attracted to Mighty, maybe I have a woman's brain? Comments seem to be vanishing all around youtube btw.
+Lawrence Leith Comments are not the only thing that's vanishing. But videos too like the WINDS OF WAR. Why is it happening?
It's a pontoon, very typical of a Polynesian canoe. It works by floating, so the boat can't tip such as to sink the pontoon, and it's also heavy, so the boat can't tip the other way, lifting it into the air. Actually pretty clever if you think about it.
This is a great cartoon. I enjoy Mighty Mouse. However the Mighty Mouse cartoons were cute but not particularly funny like Heckle and Jeckle.

Pearl Pureheart would not like this cartoon at all. Especially if Krakatoa was dancing with Mighty Mouse. Fortunately for the both of them Pearl, hadn't made the scene yet.
@mm43501 The Cindy Mouse from the Magic Slipper was the sexiest and hottest of the Terrytoon mouse babes.
😮😮😮
oh her sarong is so wrong
Krakatoa in indonesia😍😍 i from indonesia
good for you
They're not blinking 2:01
My aunt's age when this cartoon was broadcast was 5 years
Call me a killjoy, but animation has almost always seemed utterly grotesque to me, even if sometimes comical what with anthropomorphic animals and out and out sadistic action a la the Popeye, Casper, and Little Audrey cartoons which were made around the same era as this one.
+brian sedlock Forget those two. Make mine Gadget from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers.
+brian sedlock
Gadget or Miss Kitty Mouse for me
+Johnlindsey289 I thought Pearl Pureheart was your true love. In many of your comments for all the Mighty Mouse videos I've read how you wrote Pearl was a cute mouse chick and that you had a big crush on her.
+Spike Riley No, Pearl is way prettier than Gadget. Gadget's cute, but she's got nothing on Pearl Pureheart as far looks go.
brian sedlock
I dig Pearl but i like Katie and Miss Kitty Mouse more.
This looks nothing like krakatoa island people. This is more like hawaiian, or what hollywood depicts of them.
You're watching talking, singing, and dancing rodents, one of whom flies around in the air, with the ability to subdue an erupting volcano using his smoke contrails like a lasso, and somehow this is all supposed to be historically and culturally accurate too?
