Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty, former elite Quake Live and Quake Champions dueler and now retired, is the star of the 406th Episode of 'Reflections'. This is episode one of two about DaHanG's career.
DaHanG came from the Quake 2 scene and made his name in Quake 4 playing on the duel circuit of 2007 most notably. Very quickly he was a top prospect and even played in a WSVG final against toxjq, the dominant force of that time. When QuakeLive came around DaHanG moved into it and played for many years.
In late 2009, DaHanG won the IEM American Championship, beating rapha in a Bo5 reverse sweep final. DaHanG would routinely make play-offs of events but his deep runs were more here and there. In late 2010 he made the final of Dreamhack Winter where he was beaten by Cypher. He lost to Cypher again in the QuakeCon 2012 final.
In 2013 a loss to evil denied him back-to-back QuakeCon finals appearances. In 2014 DaHanG again made the QuakeCon final and in familiar fashion was beaten by Cypher. Outside of the biggest champions in the game, DaHanG stood as one of the better players and who could contest seemingly everyone.
In Quake Champions, DaHanG had some success early on. He finished fourth at QuakeCon 2017 and won Dreamhack Winter to end the year. In 2018 he played in the Bo1 format QuakeCon duel championship and finished runner-up to clawz. DaHanG would manage some top four finishes in early Quake Pro League finals.
As well as his duel success, DaHanG was invested in team modes and was part of a dominant Sacrifice 2v2 line-up with fellow countrymen and Team Liquid team-mate rapha. DaHanG's last result was a top eight run at QuakeCon 2021 and he has since retired from competitive play.
In part one, DaHanG discusses coming from Quake 2 to competing in esports events in Quake 4, the appeal of movement in Quake, finishing runner-up so many times, his rivalry with rapha and if he could have been a full time Overwatch player if Team Liquid had gotten an OWL slot.
This interview was recorded on the 25th of May, 2024.

Thanks for the Quake content now that our entire scene is dead
yea thanks for nothing!
@satanspy not what i ment. Thorin has always covered some Quake stuff here n there. Just having more content on quake on his channel is good. He is literally the historian. Quake may be dead but at least we still have OGs like Thorin here to share what it was like back in the days n what not. When Thorin covers something its in the archives forever. Thorin's channel is literally the history book of esports.
You really aren't helping anyone by calling anything "dead" ya salty bastard
Yess. Quake would be better off on highlighting all of it's history. A documentary is very much needed. So many legends to cover.
Dahang was a beast in quake...great to have 'the accountant' on!
The feel of Quake is supreme. Game/series died a long time ago in Oce and now it's outright dead everywhere. Will always have my love. DaHanG was always a gem when we talked in the server.
I got into duel a few years ago partly due to your Quake content. One of the most intense and skill based competitive modes that exists even to this day
pretty cool to see this one, hope we get some more quake stuff
I loved his first appearance many moons ago. Excited for this one.
Started playing Q2 in 1999, best game and Quake ever. Played duel/tdm with/against DaHanG on the daily from like 2005-2012, miss those days for sure.
I was a little too young for Quake but Dahang and Rapha were my favorite Reflections interviews. Theyre both so well spoken with excellent recall.
Should have on 2GD next 🥰🥰🥰
Would be nice to see what he was up to after Diabotical. I honestly have no idea.
@@Venserql he recently (couple days ago) announced a new class based shooter and launched it in Early Access.
@@LeadHeadBOD Just downloaded the game, hope it's good. Even more of a reason to interview him now.
Great to see tim and hear whats been up with him recently. Quake legend
I see Quake, I click and enjoy. Simple as.
Appreciated!
Thank you Thoooooorin
Yeeeeeeesssss quakeeew
Great but...are you gonna do a Cooller interview before you die?
Duel is a chore. Timelimit Duel ruined Quake Champions and nearly every Pro player absolutely dreaded playing it. Its outdated, and feels non-competitive.
IMO, Sacrifice and a few more 2v2 tournaments would've been better to push for QC esports. Duel was fun to watch towards the beginning, but I lost interest quickly. It caught on because it was what people wanted back then, and it was also new for QC at the time. It should've been in the spotlight for a couple years max, then switched out. A few select duel tourneys after that would've been fine.
Having more 2v2/Sac probably would have been more demanding and fun for the participants as well. And there would likely be more participation for Sac especially, which is always welcome. Speaking as a viewer.
Its the epitome of what newer players dont like about quake type games. Anyone not playing for 10+ years already is gatekept to the outside unless phenomenal, like you and strongsage who were able to get into the pro league without that much quake
feels so much better in real quake like ql q3. with heros etc in qc its bs agreed. you were entertaining on both kinds though. btw
@@jeffcook3901 exactly, not only that ,but even if Rapha is you FAVORITE player, its just not fun to watch someone cheesing everyone, when almost noone is cheesing him....its like watching 3000 elo vs 1800 lol
What Quake needs is a new game with a Battle Royale mode. Huge map, airdrop in along with 100-200 other players with weapons and armor scattered about, with Quake movement physics, and the map shrinks over time as players die until it’s finally down to 1-vs-1.
