The NFL has 32 teams. It's highly unlikely to watch your team have success. If your favorita team loses you feel depressed and people on social media insults you, lmao. And even if your teams win, nothing fans enjoy more than trash talking on social media, as if they were part of that glory. It's more stress and pain than anything.
I'm an American and I can't stand watching sports and I personally want to applaud anyone else regardless of where you are who refuses to give a shit about something that is beyond pointless and meaningless as sports.
Tbf all forms of entertainment are “pointless.” It’s the reaction I don’t get. When’s the last time you’ve seen people get in a fist fight because one person said Naruto can beat Captain America in a fight? But you can get jumped for wearing the wrong team jersey in a sports bar.
My mentality exactly ABOUD. I’m 18, and I just finished my last season of high school basketball. If I’m not playing a sport, why should I care? It isn’t me, these athletes are humans just like us.
I view the USA's obsession with sports as a toxic, borderline abusive, relationship because the subsidies for these stadiums. All economic impact studies show that in the vast majority of cases these stadiums that are paid for with taxpayer money lose the city money and provide no economic benefit at all and in many cases the areas around them continue to be ghetto after they are built. Look at Detroit, they spent hundreds of millions on MLB and NFL stadiums and then the city literally went bankrupt. If you think about it if these were good investments why doesn't the team owner go to the bank and get the financing for it themselves? Yet the owners of these teams threaten to move and all of a sudden its a big crises and tons of people get mad at the politicians and blame them if the team does move, so as a result the politicians just give the owners everything they want at the expense of the taxpayers. Its disgusting.
It is and everything you've described in that comment is the reason why I've become a casual fan of sports here in the US over the past number of years or so. Although I do like watching soccer over in Europe as that culture is much different than here in the US and from what I understand most of the stadiums over there are not taxpayer-subsidized but I could be wrong.
I once had a man tell me that I would never advance in my career because I don't obsess or know about sports the way others do. That would be true if we worked in the sports industry, but we didn't at all. That person never really took the time to learn their job, they just distracted guys in upper management by shifting the conversation to sports so they didn't focus on his work. This seemed to work with older managers for years, but his luck ran out and now he has to figure shit out with millennial management who's looking at him like...🤔 Meanwhile, I have advanced by building my skills, knowledge, expertise, and, social capital.
this is it. in many ways sports (like talk of travel) was a way to differentiate the favorites and enable nepotism to persist. whenever you hear a board or other group of managers relating on something so trivial and spending significant work time doing this, you know they're not there to be productive but to maintain an in-crowd nepotism.
You have a point when it comes to the scholarship thing. I feel bad for the students that are excellent and want to go to university to become doctors or scientist or whatever, but can't due to financial problems. Society would actually benefit if they got the scholarship.
I thought I was the only one who thought this,as a Kid and teen I loved playing anytype of ball but I never got the whole obsession with following sports. I felt that sitting in front of a TV watching this shit for hours was a waist of precious time.good to know there's others out there.
Yea and most of the men that watch are fat fucking losers, they cant get off their asses and do anything themselves. They would rather watch men play. So many losers.
Broo! I been saying the same exact thing for years. That’s alright the more time they spend watching that the less competition out there for guys like us
People want to belong with something and have a sense of unity (Ex: being part of group/culture surrounding the sport/team; all wearing the team colors and having a common interest). I'm not a sports person (nerd/geek guy). That's my observation.
Any form of idolatry, whether it's American Idol, Sports Idol, is the worst sin you can do and it's unforgivable. Please remove these celebrities and athletes from your pedestal and put God back on it. Thou shall not have other idols.

Love this guy. True alpha male. I agree. I don't have time to remember these guys name and sport stats. I watch games casually and don't have a favorite team. And could care less about names or who wins and loses.
Yes. It is somewhat frivolous but people enjoy what they enjoy. If someone derives some type of excitement from it while it is kinda weird and probably part of a bigger problem so what?
Grew up watching ESPN and following sports religiously. My priorities changed as soon as family life started. Not worth getting emotional over something you have no control for and sports fandom is extremely toxic these days. Only games that matter are my kids names
I remember reading a comment on Bill Cooper's video. Literally says: _“It was hours after 9/11 happened. We're in a restaurant. Everyone sat in shock. Then a group of men moved to a far corner of the restaurant. Then they eat, and then they started to talk about football. WTF.”_
I believe a lot of men think they could have gone pro if they had worked a little harder, despite this being completely wrong. I think they live vicariously through professional athletes and they worship them. Following sport is the exact same as celebrity worship and gossip done by channels like E. Wearing a jersey with another man’s name on it is absolute cringe.
I used to follow sports when I really didn't have that much going on in my life and was more into avoiding instead of analyzing what I want out of life. I stopped watching when I starting thinking about what life means to me and now I just find it ridiculous to sit in front of a screen and watch movies, shows or sports, when there is so much going on in the world around me.
But consider that there are many fine movies and shows--classics!--that are actually art. Look at the history of Classical Hollywood, or Film Noir, or French New Wave, or Italian Neo-Realism, or German Expressionism, or...
Totally agree. I'm from Ireland, its the same. You can't walk into a pub on a Saturday or a Sunday without big screens showing gaelic football, english soccer etc. An interest is one thing, but some people are obsessed. And from my experience, some of the people who are obsessed don't have much else in their lives. Shitty jobs, no hobbies etc. It's opium for the masses!
Bro since i was a little kid i have the same question, the only logical explination that i cand find is that maybe a lot of people bet a lot of money in this crap and that gives them some dopamine rush, something like that..........also what pisses me off are the RIDICOULOS AMOUNTS OF MONEY some of these athletes make, while we have ex-soldiers, marines, doctors, etc...making waaaay less money with RELEVANT jobs for society.

When I was in college, you had to stand in a long line at the dining hall. Peak lunch and dinner times would always have a rush of people. Especially when people were trying to grab food before night classes, or right after their afternoon classes. That's just life. No big deal. You stand in line and wait your turn. But every damn day....the football team and all their coaches and assistant coaches...would POUR into the dining hall. Literally 100+ people. And they would cut straight to the front of the line. Just walk right past everyone. All sweaty and stinky after their practice. People would complain, and the coaches would chew them out. "THIS IS THE ONLY TIME WE CAN EAT! WE'VE BEEN AT PRACTICE ALL DAY!!!" The dining hall staff let them cut in line. The whole university defended the practice, but the students thought it was BS. Some of us only have small windows of time to eat as well...because we are at CLASS all day! You know...the reason you are in college!?!?!
@@Discipleofthelordandjesus awwww, you waited four years to reply. Finally mommy and daddy bought you a phone so you can make stupid smartass childish comments on RUclips. You must have just turned 12. You are so special!
I agree with most of the things you have said. Sports is a way to compete against one another to achieve something greater. But you have nailed it on the head about a man wearing another man's name on his back, that just shows these men have no pride for themselves.
I played spoets.growing up to stay fit and once I geaduated college and started WORKING, I stopped watching sports because no longer played for an organization and therefore had no reason to watch other pepople playing to see their techniques. That and I ditched TV at 19 so I don't miss watching sports one bit.
You summed it up well. And it's not just men. I think a lot of people start following sports in order to fit in with the herd. Most probably aren't actually naturally interested in it. And what is "it"? The throwing? The catching? The technique, skill, raw stimulation? You're right, people are bitching themselves by wearing another man's name. The whole tribal thing? When it used to matter, in our tribal days, people went to great lengths to become and remain dominant. No one would willy-nilly sell their manhood. Football doesn't replace or even cater to "tribal instincts". My tribal instincts tell me to annihilate soft little chumps like the aforementioned. Football just allows fans and viewers to reminisce on our proto- athletic contests, ie deathmatches. But I digress. If you want to spend your free time/ life watching another group of guys do something you couldn't dream ever doing, then congrats? Or, how about go for a run, or think creative and original thoughts, or go out and ACT like a man and help other people and offer your time in a way that benefits at least somebody. You watch it for entertainment? How boring and one-dimensional your life must be. To spend hours watching, checking stats, fucking around on your apps. It's sad. And if there must be an evolutionary explanation for it, it's this: the guys you watch, throwing the ball and tackling other men- would have been the dudes who absolutely desecrated your life, your wife, your possessions, land, etc. They are the dudes you'd hide from. (Although in a way, that's how it is- you, little prey animal, weak and pathetic in all aspects, hiding behind your coffee table making a raucous). So freeing.
Sports is a cope to a miserable life, I see so many "men" who have kids and would much rather watch their fucking game on Sunday than spend that day with the kids. I mean, a dad spending just one entire day a week with his kids can make all the difference in their lives. I don't wanna hear that, "but it's my only day off." bullshit. You should've thought about that before having kids.
That comment about wearing a jersey with another dude's name on the back is spot on. Jerseys are for 10 year olds. Dress like a grown man. I went to an amusement park with my kids a month ago and almost every adult male was dressed like a toddler. Baggy cargo shorts, graphic tees with comic book characters or sports team names, ball caps on backwards, flip flops. Put on some big boy pants and a button up shirt and you'll stand out in a crowd like a sore thumb.
Exactly. Children wear those jerseys because they want to be like those athletes when they grow up. A grown man has already grown up and is most likely not an athlete, so why wear the jersey of another man you will never be like?
I'm with you man. Ive been trying to understand for years why so many people are super obsessed with sports. Its getting to a point were its even fatal. True story, a woman literally killed another woman because she did not cheer when she told her that her favorite sports team won a big game. On believable, its just a fucking game that don't matter!
I had a teacher in school that would not shut the hell up about sports. Every single day talking about the new game or favorite players blah blah blah. And they talk about it with such pride, as if they're the ones on the field. So many people have become delusional thinking sports is everything.
Because media convinced them it's cool to like sports, and they want to seem cool or masculine with their friends, as well as live vicariously as a famous athlete. It's about being part of the crowd as well. It's for people who lack imagination entirely.
The root of this problem can be traced back our schools. We prioritize sports over academics. It isnt the uneducated athlete's fault for thriving in the system, it's us as a society who are at fault for enabling this shit.
Real spit. I couldn’t have said it better. That has always been my sentiment about sports and student athletes. It’s a waste of time. They are unnecessarily privileged. And, they could give a damn less about the rest of us.
It's a form of escapism. It's also a way to connect with a community and be part of something/connect with others. Some find philosophical teachings in it.
@@pjmarc1 watch Jim Florentines rant on fantasy football, guys bring their laptops to sports bars to check stats every 5 minutes.Jim said they should check their pants for a penis
I’d rather play the sport than watch it. I’ll only watch it if I’m watching a family member playing. Like if it’s my little brother or even a good friend.
Sports to me kind of seems like the "Everyman Hobby". It's a social lubricant. Don't know how to break the ice? Sports. Need something to occupy yourself with at the bar? Sports. Need to go somewhere on a date? Go to a game. I personally do not understand them either.
Excellent! I have said pretty much the same thing to others all my life. You expressed this very well., Sadly, the people who really need to hear this probably won't--because they're watching sports right now.
I’m so glad an influencer like You Aboud is speaking on this topic. I get so disgusted when I walk into a place of business and a grown man is wearing a sports jersey and or hat with their cubicles emerged with sports crap. I want so badly to through it the garbage where it belongs.
Honestly I laughed whenever these sports fanboys say crap like “oh they need that money in order to take care of their family” and I’m like they need 20 mil to take care of their family? People are weird lol.
Its not only an obsession with pro teams, it funnels down to the kids of these idiots. I work with guys that talk about soccer every, single, day. It drives me nuts!! Then they start going into how competitive their 10 year old kids are in soccer.....its obnoxious how much they talk about it!! Then there's the drama between parents on who's kid is better. Don't get me wrong sports can be fine as long as everyone enjoys it and has fun....but you're right man, this whole sports thing is out of control.
I once went into a sports bar with my laptop and ordered a drink. I went to a quiet corner and sat down with my drink, started sipping it, and became very engrossed with writing on my laptop. I paid no attention to the background--the loud conversations, the ball game, the noise, the sports bar ambiance--until I heard someone clear her throat. I looked up; three women were sitting around me at my table, smiling and staring at me! I was so engrossed in my writing that I never noticed them! I folded my laptop and had a fun chat with them--as the guys around me cheered on their TV sports team. So, never be afraid to be the lone Sigma at the sports bar. You are sometimes rewarded for it!
Sports make them feel great because they don't feel great about their accomplishments. To belong to a group, to feel like a warrior. Someone said a man watching a game while wearing a team shirt was like a woman watching Grey's Anatomy in scrubs! How true.
I've always wondered this myself. I'm a car guy, so I love racing. But even then I really don't watch racing. it's more fun to do than observe, unless you are trying to learn technique from a master of the craft. It's to the point where guys will walk up to you and ask you questions about a team or a player or a decision that a team has made pretty much fully expecting that it will turn into a full-on 5 to 10 minute conversation about sports. And then when I tell them I really don't watch sports, they're not really disappointed but more in a little bit of bemused disbelief. And then sometimes I get the "so if you don't if you're not into sports then what are you into?" As if that's the only thing in the world that a man can be into. And then, how do you pledge allegiance to one team? I get if you're from particular area you support the team where you're from. But the teams are always trading players every year or however long a player's contract lasts with that team. so you could have a player from arrival team end up playing for your team that you support the very next year. so what's the point of liking a particular team when all the players are getting passed around to every team? It makes probably more sense to admire particular player. It can literally mean that your team can be good one year and then the next year it can go to crap. so what makes you pledge allegiance to that team when a team is comprised of players that don't even stay with the team for longer than their contract if they don't re-up for another season?
I watch them casually, I can only really get into them when our teams are doing well, like in the playoffs. people should really only be using these sports as entertainment And not a distraction from improving their lives or a distraction from what’s going on around them.
Finally someone who shares the same side I’m on. Used to be a sports fan and circus fan. Not anymore. I started boxing and lost more weight in 6 months than ever
It’s just a lower Educated less ambitious American thing. I feel like it’s people who failed at or can’t play sports. I mean games are made for playing. Not watching other people play. The worst part about it is the money they make
It was designed to feed our tribal instincts, for a reason. Rome did the same thing in order to distract it's occupied populations. It worked then and it works now.
True we evolved as a tribal species and we gravitate towards that. But historical a tribal link would benefit it's members, in this case, the Patriots it what ever the fk they are called, winning, benefits almost no one that 'follows' them.

Farmers work 120+ hours a week in hot summers and heavy torrential downpours to feed billions and get paid less than 1% of those who kick a ball for 3 hours a week?? Doctors and surgeons studied for 8 years just to enter workforce to save lives and still paid far less than these cheating pricks?? How fcuked is our society???
Because the guy working Hard is a useless fellow , living like a worm making no success
He's good at nothing
A guy that dribbles a ball well is a one in a million person. Many people are nice people and hard workers tho
It’s the same with music and entertainment: movies, tv, celebs, etc
Lmao never understood this either.. I grew up playing sports but never gave a shit about watching them..
I'm an American and I can't stand watching sports and I personally want to applaud anyone else regardless of where you are who refuses to give a shit about something that is beyond pointless and meaningless as sports.
Damn 🥵 that’s wild
I can say the same about video games... lol
Calls sports meaningless but has a halo pfp 😂
Tbf all forms of entertainment are “pointless.” It’s the reaction I don’t get. When’s the last time you’ve seen people get in a fist fight because one person said Naruto can beat Captain America in a fight? But you can get jumped for wearing the wrong team jersey in a sports bar.
@@coldchillin8382 It's because they don't exist. Not saying fight over people who are real but still.
Mad respect, you are indeed a real person.
Damn! You said it brother!
I hear you 100% it’s all about the money and power over human society! It’s a mind game!
I’m gonna send this to my friend who roasted me about not liking sports.
Couldn't agree more. For the life of me I dont get peoples obsession with sports.
To be honest you are wasting time regardless
Guys spend so much on their hair and drench it in some gross chemicals like this to me are peak homosexual
Broo! I been saying the same exact thing for years. That’s alright the more time they spend watching that the less competition out there for guys like us
I believe people are obsessed with sports because it's a form of warfare. We also have to questioned why are people obsessed with celebrities.
I wonder that myself... like how are people making money by talking about celebreties.. like who cares what they do its their life...
People want to belong with something and have a sense of unity (Ex: being part of group/culture surrounding the sport/team; all wearing the team colors and having a common interest).
I'm not a sports person (nerd/geek guy). That's my observation.
You know even Muslims who are completely against idol worship don't even realize they are trapped in this and bro you just opened my eyes thank you
Yes you are right like the Messi Vs Ronaldo fanboys.
Any form of idolatry, whether it's American Idol, Sports Idol, is the worst sin you can do and it's unforgivable. Please remove these celebrities and athletes from your pedestal and put God back on it. Thou shall not have other idols.
I grew up in a sport playing house but as we all grew up my brothers and cousins turned into sports watching junkies and it’s so annoying ! The passion and dedication they have for these people who don’t know or care about them is beyond me ! It’s sickening
Yeah same, I watch casually, nothing wrong with that. But some of the die hards are kinda out there.
Grew up watching ESPN and following sports religiously. My priorities changed as soon as family life started. Not worth getting emotional over something you have no control for and sports fandom is extremely toxic these days. Only games that matter are my kids names
What do you do for fun then?
Man you are so right! I completely agree! Great video.
You are 100% correct!
Just listened to my coworkers talk about fantasy football all day. This video is exactly how I felt.
I remember reading a comment on Bill Cooper's video. Literally says:
_“It was hours after 9/11 happened. We're in a restaurant. Everyone sat in shock. Then a group of men moved to a far corner of the restaurant. Then they eat, and then they started to talk about football. WTF.”_
You missing out bud😂😂
@@sparte6856 not in my opinion, sir.
For many people, it has become a form of idol worshipping. Wether it’s a specific person or a team.
It's called slavery but indirectly
I used to follow sports when I really didn't have that much going on in my life and was more into avoiding instead of analyzing what I want out of life. I stopped watching when I starting thinking about what life means to me and now I just find it ridiculous to sit in front of a screen and watch movies, shows or sports, when there is so much going on in the world around me.
Its a form of entertainment.
@James Furey It's an unhealthy obsession.
@@countsmyth Meh that's kind of a stereotype. People can enjoy sports and stilk have a good life to fall back on
I totally agree! I never got it! That’s why I searched this on RUclips. It doesn’t make sense at all.
Dude you’re my long lost twin .. I’ve gotten 100 people sending me your videos
I agree with you 1000% Same goes for any celebrities. I could care less what they are all about.
The Roman Empire and the Greek Empire are mostly considered to be the people who created sports. They used these events as a distraction for other things that were going on! I know it's just a movie, but Gladiator is actually loosely based on a true story. There's a scene where two Roman politicians are having a conversation, one politician says "Games! 150 days of games!", and the other politician says "Huh! He's more clever than I thought." This scene is referring to how sports were created to give people an easy access to a different type of buzz, a different type of drug, that people could instantly access anywhere and at anytime. Me personally, I love drugs! Not all, but I love stimulants! However, I recognize that these drugs cannot be accessed at anytime or anywhere... unlike sports. The drug of sports can be accessed anytime/anywhere by thinking about them, anytime/anywhere by reading about them, anytime/anywhere by talking about them at anytime/anywhere, you can't overdose on them, you can't get chemically addicted to them, and you can't get hungover on them. This is what sports are used for by the system!
Sports is largely politicized nowadays though, so how exactly is it serving as a distraction?
Yeah! It's living vicariously through someone else. Gives regular guys a sense of being part of something important.
Lmao. This is exactly what I tell people at work. But I go a little further and say they run around in tights and play with balls.
Awww. Someone is upset they never go to play on varsity… you didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete.
You should've thought about that before having kids.
i know people that dont even brush teeth or wash body or clothes but spend all time watching soccer and betting on it and drinking.
Facts bro! Watching a bunch of rich people play around and make millions why I'm gaining nothing by watching!
Their lives are utterly that empty and meaningless
_Kids wear jerseys. Adults wear suits._
A grown up man knows he doesn't need 6 packs to impress women.
Motherfucker I’m not wearing a button up shirt and dress pants to an amusement park 😂😂
Its a waste, time and energy. Quitted my football team this week. Was taking my youth away. Ill go to the gym pick weights thats real exercise.
Sports is a waste of time---it's like a drug---you feel good for no reason
I had a teacher in school that would not shut the hell up about sports. Every single day talking about the new game or favorite players blah blah blah. And they talk about it with such pride, as if they're the ones on the field. So many people have become delusional thinking sports is everything.
People can know everything
about a sports team but know nothing about who they are voting for.
My thoughts exactly.
People in America are obsessed with sports and Hollywood. That's all they care about, and I say this as an American!
It's a form of escapism. It's also a way to connect with a community and be part of something/connect with others. Some find philosophical teachings in it.
True talk. Not only that , there is this fantasy football too 😂
Ahlam fantasy football takes it to a whole new level. Obessesion at its best.
@@pjmarc1 watch Jim Florentines rant on fantasy football, guys bring their laptops to sports bars to check stats every 5 minutes.Jim said they should check their pants for a penis
Thank God someone else feels the same way. I’ve never understand how so many fucking grown ass men love this shit so much
I’d rather play the sport than watch it.
The example of wearing someone's name across your back is a great point it's like worship.
Excellent! I have said pretty much the same thing to others all my life. You expressed this very well., Sadly, the people who really need to hear this probably won't--because they're watching sports right now.
I absolutely 100% agree with you bro! Watching
Sports is such a waste of time!
I’m so glad an influencer like You Aboud is speaking on this topic. I get so disgusted when I walk into a place of business and a grown man is wearing a sports jersey and or hat with their cubicles emerged with sports crap. I want so badly to through it the garbage where it belongs.
You must be fun at parties
Cringe
Whenever I hear said people talking about the exact cent of their favorite player’s income, that’s extremely insane to me. This is why I’m here today.
How true.
JDC- jock derangement syndrome. It’s really very ignorant.!! You have nailed it bro.
Wayne Wilson
Can you explain?
I feel the same way Aboud does
I've always wondered this myself.
Absolutely you hit the nail on the head with this comment!
Finally someone who shares the same side I’m on. Used to be a sports fan and circus fan. Not anymore. I started boxing and lost more weight in 6 months than ever
You are not wrong my friend..I feel the same way..100%!!
bro it's the whole world, look at all the soccer fans....
Amen! Preach it brother. Couldn’t agree more
It’s just a lower Educated less ambitious American thing. I feel like it’s people who failed at or can’t play sports. I mean games are made for playing. Not watching other people play. The worst part about it is the money they make
This made my day!
We evolved as a tribal species. Sports allow people to indulge in the tribal behavior we were bred for
Eric
This
you pretty much nailed it. Even though I care less for team sports
It was designed to feed our tribal instincts, for a reason. Rome did the same thing in order to distract it's occupied populations. It worked then and it works now.
It's the opposite of tribal though, tribal people wouldn't cheer on foreigners that hate them.
True we evolved as a tribal species and we gravitate towards that. But historical a tribal link would benefit it's members, in this case, the Patriots it what ever the fk they are called, winning, benefits almost no one that 'follows' them.
It's so DISGUSTING!!! f'ing insane! Worship!! Ppl worship sports players. I'm so greatful to wake up after 9th grade and NOT give a single F about sports. 😁🏄🙏 Ppl are BRAINWASHED
I've never cared about sports, yet people assume that I'm weird or retarded because of that. I don't find it interesting or entertaining.
In my observation, the actual real fans are those who gamble on sports since they have a stake on it and should be invested in the team that they root for.
It's world wide Hollywood. In Australia its like religion. Foot ball & cricket is like an obsession iv been in someone s house with my girl.as we chating the guy I was talking that as his woman got up & walked across the tv he whent ballistic he just humiliated the poor lady he was hypnotized & talking but is eyes were on the tv.i felt bad for his wife as said relax man.he replied she's a ball breaker I left it at that coz our familys new each other so about half hour I told my girl let's go babe because she was so upset & I knew they were going to argue.
