I'm glad he said "influenced by" zep. So many people comment that they are a Zep cover band or sound identical. But if you go back and actually listen to some Zep back to back with GVF, you hear the influence but they are very different at the same time. It's the same genre, with obvious zep (and other) influence but they truly have their own sound.
When the first Rush album was played in Cleveland in 1974, people were calling the radio station asking when the new zeppelin album is coming out. Rush was know as a zeppelin like band when they first came out then they developed. Give Greta a chance to develop

Alex said everything. They may look like Zepellin but the songs are great, they brought back that rock thing with the kind of talent that I haven't seen in years.
Alex is spot on with GVF. Musicianship and original material is very hard to come by these days because it seems like its all been done in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Props to GVF, I look forward to a long career from them, they are that good!

As a huge Rush fan and equally huge Greta Van Fleet fan, I love this so much. It’s great to see rock pioneers saluting the young bucks. Much love and appreciation to both! ❤️🤟🏼
I saw GVF last year play live, and they put on a great show. A number of bands have been burdened with the ‘new Led Zep’ mantle, but GVF really evolved musically and took a step forward with their last album “Battle At Garden’s Gate”. I think they’re the real deal.
Wife and I have seen GVF 2x now, front row both times! First time, I got Jake's slide from the Dallas show in 2017! Second time, I got one of Jake's picks! Pretty good live; RUSH is still the best ever, though. :)
My only problem with GVF is the instant ROCK heroes that some call them...It took years for bands such as LZ, Rush etc. to get the credit they deserved and yet this young band comes out and almost instantly is legendary...Not hating just stating my 2 cents...
It is bizarre but it’s also deserved. I went through my play list of GVF the other day. Close to 25 songs that are each unique and never tired of hearing. When you realize that’s roughly 80-90% of their catalog in 2022. It’s truly imposing. Who else did that? Beatles were doing Love me do at the age GVF were doing Edge of Darkness,Mountain of the Sun,etc. Then they release Gardens Gate!!
There's nothing instant about GVF. They've been playing for 10 years, since they were babies practically. Their moms had to bring them to their early gigs in bars in Michigan. The progression from then to now is amazing. Keep up the great music boys.
They probably are instant legends of rock because they came and showed what classic rock sounds like to the modern generations. And they became famous playing rock. That is such a feat in 2021. Think of all the trash music there is today... To become famous playing rock in 2021 is just legend worthy!
With all due respect, it’s one thing to do covers of another bands songs but it’s a different thing to mimic another bands signature sound and stylings and pass it off as something new. Having said that, I wish I had that kind of talent to sound as good as GVF.
I was a big fan of Greta Van Fleet, and I still am..but I'm very disappointed and was shocked to witness lip-syncing by Josh (the lead singer) to a few songs when playing live! I mean like it was obvious, and I mentioned it before on the specific RUclips channel, like "Live at the Red Rock" concert, and since then, that concert has been dissected into 3 parts! Unfortunately not all is what it seems!
They are very publicly against lip syncing. It doesn't seem likely. They also are against auto tune, preferring imperfections rather than fake perfection.
I'll admit I haven't heard the bulk of GVF's music, but from what I have heard, they don't sound like they were influenced by LZ, they sound like they were copying LZ. I don't want to hear a "new classic rock band". I want to hear a new band do what the so-called "classic rock" bands did...create a new sound. If you can hear the classic rock influences, that's fine. At the time, nobody sounded like Zep, The Who, The Stones, etc. Those were all bands influenced by the old blues guys, but nobody would listen to them and say "They sound just like Howlin' Wolf or Lightning Hopkins".
@Kristopher Loviska I agree. GVF are not bad musicians but they are not bringing anything new to the table. They may not be a cover band but they are still copying the sound of classic rock bands. The praise they get from famous musicians like in this video is respectable and it is good to see a rock band getting serious attention, but do we really expect to see GVF completely break out of the safe zone they are and begin creating daring and experimental music like Rush and Zeppelin did? They will keep churning out the same recycled classic rock riffs over and over again, and that may be exciting to many people but it will never earn them a place among the legends. When you compare them to bands like Porcupine Tree and Tool, they are totally lame, and people that think GVF are bringing rock music back have not been paying attention to the truly great bands that have been hard at work with pioneering new sounds in rock music. There are so many other bands more deserving of this amount of praise that's it actually irritates me that so many people have jumped on the bandwagon that clearly don't have eclectic taste in music. Zep and Rush and Floyd and Sabbath had rich color and texture and there music still sound so fresh and new today. There is no need to listen to some cheap imitation that doesn't have anywhere near the musical depth as the bands they are trying to sound like. We already have plenty of those bands anyway, let's hear something that hasn't been a million times over the last 50 years...
i totaly agree. Rock needs to evolve in order to remain relevant. GVF live in the past and do nothing to move rock forward. Rock n roll has to be organic and reflect the times in which it was created, as were the Stones, Led Zep. etc. GVF on the other hand is not much more than a caricature.

GVF is indeed full of talent. And it is only my opinion, but they need to knock off the Zeppelin stuff. There is absolutely no denying that they sound a great deal like Zeppelin, and they also emulate to a degree, the clothing style of that period. The guitar player even poses and postures somewhat like Jimmy Page. They will never get past the level they are currently at sales wise, and popularity wise, until they become their own band.
Or maybe not? Their Zepish style is what got me listening. This is obviously working for them a lot better than a band called Kingdom Come. I witnessed them getting booed off the stage opening up for Black Sabbath at the Orpheum Theater in Boston.

I've come to like GVF a lot more over the last couple of years. The ONLY issue I have with them (and I'll chalk this up to immaturity) is them denying Led Zep was an influence citing Aerosmith more as one. Now, they may have been inspired by Aerosmith more, but come the fuck on, to deny the LZ influence? Just makes them look needlessly arrogant and pretentious thinking their fan base believes them.
You know just cause they sound a lot like LZ doesn’t necessarily mean they were a significant of an influence. Im pretty sure they have acknowledged it a couple times in some of their interviews but the fact that their constantly compared to them they’d rather stray from any LZ related topics.
I see this comment a lot and I wonder why this thought seems to be so popular considering it's not even true. I can easily find at least 5 interviews where they talk about Led Zeppelin but I can't find a single interview where they mention Aerosmith. They've never once denied LZ as an influence, they've spoken about other influences but just because they have others doesn't mean they're denying LZ as an influence.
@@BuckyBarnesAndNoble Exactly! Someone gets it. I think their recent album has them adapting their own style anyway, and straying from the LZ influence. Looking at them when they just began, even in they way they dressed it was clearly influenced by Zep and that era in general. Looking at them now they seem to branching out a lot more. Anyone can clearly see it is not just LZ, they seem to have a huge range of artists that influenced them and just have a passion for that type of music in general. I don’t understand some of the hate they get. But, each to their own I guess.
I've only heard a couple of GVF songs and I think "Age of Man" is fantastic. Bands back in the late 60's/70's were still new and innovated so it's easy to see how their songs became as great as they are. They're classic. But it's harder today in this "been there-done that" era where we've heard it all before and the younger ones are into hip-hop, rap, and other pop bullshit. It's easy to get overlooked.
God that band is freakin terrible. They are literally a zep cover band. Alex is just trying to be nice. Probably wants to produce for them lol. That band has no interest in even attempting to do anything new, so whats even the point? To make money i guess. Seems to be the only goal for them. Very different than rush in every way. You can see geddy sitting there, he couldnt be less interested in this band 😂
Ich finde, diese Band bekommt viel zu viel Aufmerksamkeit. Plakativer kann man die Musik von Led Zeppelin eigentlich kaum spielen. Überzeugt mich leider kein bisschen.
exactly my thoughts when I first heard Greta Van Fleet. At the same time, I can't wait till they develop their own sound because most of their songs sound exactly like Led Zepplin and it gets boring pretty quick lol
Seriously, if Greta Van Fleet is the new bar, we're fucked. There are better sounds outta my ass after a can of VanDeKamps. it is just that music is so dry now, people are really reaching for something to admire. Greta Van Fleet is most certainly NOT IT.
I care for Rush. Saw them live about 12 times. Didn't like Geddy Lee's voice the first time I heard Rush. A little while later I heard them again and soon got to really like his voice.
Hey, it usually is ya either love or hate Rush. What's sad is the #1 reason people say this is because of his voice. Ok. Fair argument. It does take getting used to. It definitely came down in register over the years tho. What you cannot criticize or dispel is their musicianship, style (and fitting that style to fit the particular sound of the day), lyricism, and longevity. I will guarantee there will never be another band like Rush. Ever. Their list of accomplishments is Wayyyyyy too long to list here. I'm lucky to have lived in the time of Rush and also lucky to have experienced their greatness live 29 times.

@@BITESIZEJONES to each his own my friend. They are not exactly in high rotation on Rock radio. Or playing to stadium crowds. Or opening for major Acts. The kids aren't dressing like them, iTunes downloads, and RUclips videos aren't exactly breaking records. These are extremely talented kids. They need to cut their own path. I live about 50 miles from their hometown. You are hard pressed to find one person in 50 that knows who they are
I don't think he believes what he says. This idea propably belongs to the club of which both bands are members.
#RUSH4EVER
I can stand to listen to about one song from GFV, then I'm done.
You must have poor taste in music then...
well you do better than some then.
@@billwren5033 Yeah... the tone deaf.
For me, it's the lead singer's appeal. Or lack of it actually. Their tunes are respectable though.
A few years from now, nobody's going to know who Greta Van Fleet are. If anyone does remember them, they'll say "oh yeah that Led Zeppelin ripoff band?? What ever happened to them??" If I recall, their biggest hit was "The Rover" from their hit album _Physical Graffiti_ 🤣
You hear that GVF? Don't let Alex down.
The problem with GVF is that they will always sound like led zeppelin
@@kevin_kevinson Yea almost note for note ahah
So you're saying 4 guys in their early 20's have no chance of evolving in their sound?
Actually they don't ...smh.
Sound like Zep that is. 2 songs are Zep like out of their 3 albums.
@@nateb4543 Ya give me a break right the battle at gardens gate sounds nothing like Zep. they already have come into there new sound. I am convinced 1. people love to hate and 2. second chances do not exist with most people. People are way to unforgiving. not that I feel they need to apologize for anything but it's fucking ridiculous
Just makes them look needlessly arrogant and
pretentious thinking their fan base believes them.
GVFs problem is they dont have truly good songs like Zep, Stones, Beatles, Motown, etc.
You are actually, literally, incorrect.
@@charliew9515 congratulations on having the absolute worst taste in music next to justin bieber fans. What else you listen to bro, nickelback?
anyone who can really be that def to think that new album sounds like Zep doesn't deserve to be a fan.
....what's wrong with Nickelback?
GVF... Helping to keep the dying light of ROCK burning....
👏
Ich finde, diese Band bekommt viel zu viel Aufmerksamkeit. Plakativer kann man die Musik von Led Zeppelin eigentlich kaum spielen. Überzeugt mich leider kein bisschen.
This is disappointing, one of the most unoriginal bands ever to exist getting praised by one of the best ever...
I had high hopes for Gretta, but it looks like they're destined to be another burn out, almost made it, band.
Sincere question: What makes you think that is true? Again, I'm asking you to explain, not challenging your opinion/analysis. Please advise!
Hey man well I think your high hopes came true.. they're now going to be touring at massive stadiums like Madison Square Garden
GVF is a bit over the top...but if people like it -go for it
Not a fan of Greta Van Fleet.
They sucks anyway, because they don't make something, just copy
Glad Geddy didn’t sing🤫
exactly my thoughts when I first heard Greta Van Fleet.
I think The Warning are bringing back good rock music! I dont really like GVF
Id rather listen to rap than Greta van zeppelin/rush
I never cared for Rush. Most of it had to do with Geddy. Lee singing voice .musically at times they were good .a couple songs I liked..
I care for Rush. Saw them live about 12 times. Didn't like Geddy Lee's voice the first time I heard Rush. A little while later I heard them again and soon got to really like his voice.
@@ProffAndy when he sings in a lower register it's ok. When he does that helium high pitch screechy shrill. Dogs bark in my neighborhood...
Rush is a musician's band. Anyone who plays bass, guitar or drums loves them. Their time signatures and arrangements are not for the average listener.
"at times"... man, rush was fucking amazing basically every single time
Hey, it usually is ya either love or hate Rush.
