I own an m18r2. My biggest complaint is cooling. I've got the largest IETS platform cooling unit I've used since the m18 arrived. I put that bad boy on max fan speed (2800rpm) and still have crazy temps and variation in temps. I'll have cores 100* and 65*.
Tbh for a 4k laptop I was pretty let down at the cooling issues. Besides that though, pretty beefy "laptop".

    64gb ram
5 tb storage (1tb from Dell, 4tb WD black).

You need to use the display port for the higher than 120mhz displays not the hdmi

Newbie here, if you connect this laptop to an external monitor, will it cause the fans to spin loud?

Should have no effect. It all depends on the power mode you set the system to.

Is this an intervention? It's critical? As in critical condition?

I own an Alienware M18 R1 i9 13980HX RTX4090 and the AWCC is really bad the Fan curves are reversed high is on the left side and you can't control them properly in custom mode the fans in 35% make a unbearable noise only stabilizes at 40% or 45% the sad part is you can't avoided the 35% because the fans run at that level for at least 15 sec and it's a seting form the hidden bios so it's 15sec of pain and suffering. every 5 min or so. and the CPU1 fan run the same time with GPU3 fan for no reason at 50C the problems with the software and the poor bios are the poor implementation and the lack of control is unforgiving and gives me a sour taste in my mouth.
If your voice can be heard at Dell, please tell them To FiX the AWCC and the Fan curves form the bios give the people the freedom to control their Fans and same thing can be said about Undervolting why Blocking it why? this is really sad.

For it's desired audience, professional gamers that attend tournaments, I like it.
For casual gamers, overkill. A desktop setup or smaller gaming laptop would suffice.

i have the m18r2 with a i9 14th gen. The alienware command center shows the cpu temp consistently in the mid 75c to 80c with just normal use. Is this normal?

as in you think it is too hot? i think this is normal. thats from the experience of having a MSI ge76 the last 2 years. that temps are good on my laptop

Get a cooling pad. Should help a ton.
