I completely agree with everything you said, especially Alicia Vikander’s outstanding performance that stands out in a film filled with great acting. I can’t wait to watch this again especially after learning more about the original source material. *SPOILERS* To echo your thesis on this being an upside down Christ story, my first take on the ending was that it was directly referencing the ending to The Last Temptation of Christ in which Christ is tempted by Satan disguised as an Angel to come down from the cross and live a normal life, but this is later reversed due to Christ’s realization that his purpose is to die.
That convention you speak of, I think, was definitely brought about through the MCU. Not that they're solely responsible but the assembly line structure these films have has stifled creativity in Blockbusters in many ways.
Just rewatched it. I love it very much. The third act where Gawain sees a possible future and chooses to offer his head was a perfect conclusion to the film.
Love your review - this is simply the best film made for years and years, it's subtle so it's personal, it's ambiguous, so it's involving, it's just finesse and your review is, of a kind, too.
No confusion, the video was removed for copyright purposes (it's nonsense), but I'm working to get it back up as soon as possible. Thank you for watching!
3:54 this is purely a nitpick, but the immaculate conception is different from christmas; it’s when Mary agreed to God’s request of bearing His Son and she became pregnant (and christmas is the eventual birth, obv). I’m pretty sure there’s an actual day to celebrate the Immaculate Conception, at least among Catholics. I want to say... December 8th? Or maybe it’s just the first Sunday of Advent, but it’s def in december
I loved the movie! Probably my favorite of the year. dialogue, sound, costumes, and cinematography were unreal

Thoroughly enjoyed this film. Another great late night movie I can't wait to own
I totally missed the Mary Magdalene parallel, and now I can't stop seeing the title character as John the Baptist, severed head and all.

Huge fan of your videos! Am I confused or did you post a (really good) Candyman video that went missing?

I like it, you use educated words like myself-it makes me happy. Also good analysis and choices!
