I've got a young jungle carpet named Snapper for obvious reasons. ANY heat signature MUST be a MOUSE! Phone, lamp, hot coffee mug, hands, face, AQUARIUM, COFFEE MAKER, ALARM CLOCK...what a yutz. I tell myself he'll grow out of it with experience....
I worked with a guy who had Carpet Pythons… he would come in ALL cut up & bandaged from them all the time!! But they were beautiful animals!!💚

As a snake owner and horse owner, I appreciated hearing the similarities between them! I got a new horse and a new snake this year, and patience and calmness is the key with getting both animals to trust you.
Really great job at explaining how the snakes see us, what they feel and how they react. And taking that info to change how we react to them. I like how you compared it to training horses as well, that way your dad really understood (or other people who are more used to mammals). The Lazer eye fire breathing dragon was great lol. Your daughter is really smart and caring. She was concerned for the snake when it fell.

This is a great video. Really demonstrates how effective proper handling is for the snakes. Also shows how smart super dwarf reticulated pythons are. That male sure had his humans well trained in a past life!😂
I have a baby Pure Sonoran Hypo boa that when I got her was a chainsaw, open mouth hissing even after she was out and next to me on a couch lol. Now, she barely hisses when getting her out. Once she is, she's super chill and friendly, even falls asleep in my hand or lap. Time, consistency, and ending on positive notes are all huge. And not going away while she was still hissing, avoiding showing her the hissing works.

I just got the angriest little baby bullsnake. He’s so angry whenever I pull him out to socialize him. I think he’s literally my angriest snake and I’ve had an Amazon tree boa XD. Luckily he will calm eventually with handling.

He's really cute though! A super dwarf is my absolute dream snake! I think you bred maybe both of Clint's Reptiles super dwarfs (Apollo and Athena) and they are the bestest, smartest, most chillest and coolest snakes ever!

When I got my baby Burn 4 years ago I took Her out of the plastic candy dish she was displayed in before I got home and placed her in the top pocket of my shirt after reassuring Her that I was not gonna eat her.. She spent the next few months in my pocket daily for hours.. I also introduced Her to one of my cats whom she would often crawl over and around.. it was a special cat indeed who showed no signs of aggression towards my snake.. today @ 10 foot and over 42 pounds shes a puppy dog tame gentle giant whom I have introduced to many adults and children without any incidents and she still shows no inerest in my many cats.. habituation by regular handling as early as possible is the key to a docile snake. don't wait for weeks or months.. start them off as soon as you take possesion.. works every time.. w/adult snakes I have used the same intention of habituation by allowing the snake to become comfortable in a short time.. they are not as stupid as most thing they are and they catch on quickly when we allow them the time to do so. Handle handle handle.. if it bites keep handling.. snakes learn quickly that it has nothing to fear from us but only after we comit to regular handling.. once you have the snakes respect and trust return it by not disturbing it when it seems off or unwilling to interact.. If theres no reason to I don't force compliance with my handling when Shes not willing.. amazing what a lil cooperation w/our reptiles can bring into the relationship.. My burm actually lets me know when She wants to come out and explore or interact.. she will come to the top of Her enclosure and solicit my pets and strokes before she even get out.. and she lets me know when it's not a good day like when shes in blue.. simple and effective.. habituate them to you and they will cross a room to interact.. happy herping

The best way to make a snake nice is to make it very scared of you at first.....all u have to do is gently tap its head many times until it gets kinda annoyed......that way he knows that you mean business.....the snake is also gonna respect you because he's not gonna be wanting for you to keep doing that every single day.....so the snake will end up getting trained in that specific way as I mentioned
Perfect timing! Just got some very angry afrocks that I want to work with and tame down. Unfortunately already had to give them some bad experiences to sex and get them in their enclosures. But hopefully can start reinforcing good behaviours soon.
Everything y’all said makes so much sense and I have always tried to end handling/interactions with positivity, even if things were rough at times during the human-animal interaction. For example: Just today I put my bearded dragon in a fully enclosed playpen to get exercise and enrichment while my husband kept an eye on him as I made dinner. We have 2 small breed dogs that kept running back and forth past the playpen and spooking poor Hiccup to the point he started climbing one of the mesh panels trying to get out. As soon as I heard what was happening, I went and got Hiccup and put him on my chest so he was higher than the dogs, getting soothing warmth and gentle contact from me and was away from the area of stress. He immediately calmed down, closed his eyes and settled against me. Once I knew he’d been calm for a while I put him back in his enclosure and gave him a few pieces of bell pepper as a treat for going back into his enclosure without spazzing out.

Does anyone know what kind of gloves she is wearing? I have a very defensive ball python, and I have been wearing huge falconry gloves. I would definitely prefer something less bulky. Also if/when my danger noodle becomes more manageable with the gloves, would I then have to start over with desensitizing once the gloves are off? TIA
I have a boa imperator that’s like that. He’s still small, about 2 feet, but he likes to bite me. I work with him the same way but I still don’t trust him although he’s slowly getting better. He came from a local pet shop so who knows what he experienced before I got him.

Hi there, I have a question. I have an Albino Darwin Carpet python. I have had her since about 6 months old and have really only handled her about 1 maybe twice a week. She was very Snappy at first but now a lit less. Is once a week enough to train a snake to be human friendly lol
It sounds like your results are speaking for themselves. Basically, the more short, positive experiences you can add up with your animal the more that relationship grows. If you interact less often, it will take longer- but work just the same.
The hook doesn’t fall far from the saddle.
Where did you get those enclosures in the background?

I had a 9 foot scrub python that had a "strong feeding response " I would toss a t shirt at him ,he would try to destroy it then I would grab it and he knew i wast food😉

I love your dad. Does he still train horses? I have a 2 paints mom is fine son not lol I even took him and paid a trainer to try to break him and she was too scared of him and said that she could not break him so lost all the money and all the time and all the trust that was there ughhh
