    This scene really made me sad because the fact that Emily is convinced Lorelai won’t come over anymore because she paid them back is pretty depressing. That shows the kind of relationship they have.

      @@lovefromwonderland to be optimistic, I think that Lorelai might have visited them once a month.

    I think Emily overreacted but I bet she would have gone thru life not expecting Lorelai to pay her back, forgetting the loan just to have her daughter and granddaughter visit her. I feel for her in that case since it's only once a week and started off as part of the deal. Once a week to visit your parents is so strange to me especially if you live nearby them.

How is spending time Lorelai spending time with Emily when Emily puts her down every chance she gets.

    I mean she was paying back a loan that she promised to repay. I didn’t see anything wrong with that. Maybe she she shouldn’t have mentioned the money came from her dad and to not give it on her bday. But she could’ve used that money for anything but chose to use it to repay for Rory’s school. And I didn’t like how Rory acted after. Lorelai seemed genuine to me with thanking her parents and never said she wouldn’t be going to Friday night dinners anymore. I mean if there was an agreement, I would’ve followed through and paid back my parents. Maybe I would’ve given it another time though but I’m on Lorelai’s side in this one.

    Im siding with Lorelai on this
    She was being responsible in paying Emily and Richard back. Emily made a big deal out of nothing in my opinion. You all also seem to forget that Emily took advantage of Friday Night Dinner and would sometimes use the fact that her and Richard paid for Chilton as black mail. Emily's behavior was immature here not to mention i hate that she treated Lorelai like this on her birthday

      And she was so sincere about it. Thanking them and being genuine in how grateful she was. You can also she how proud see is that she paid them back. You think she was hoping, for once, that they would have been proud of her for being so responsible and honorable in keeping to her word only for it to completely blow up in her face. Gods I feel so sorry for Lorelai here. And on her birthday. They couldn't have even done their snide little "Well at least we did one thing right with you." backhanded compliment thing? And her dad just barking at her to shut up and acting to Emily like he'd never wanted to give her the money.

  • @rogueryder3285
    @rogueryder3285 2 года назад +13

    In my opinion, Emily was acting very childish and immature in this episode. How is it wrong that Lorelai kept her word for paying you back? And how did she and Richard feel the need to act self-righteous and treat her like that on her birthday? I can honestly see where Lorelai's coming from here. I hate being in debt, too. Especially to those who never truly treated me very well. She was doing just fine being estranged from them for the last fifteen years. The only reason she agreed to that arrangement of Friday night dinners was just out of concern for her daughter and making sure that they financially supported her high school education when Lorelai was unable to. Emily's the one who blackmailed her, and Lorelai repeatedly told them since the beginning that she would pay them back and meant it. With Rory's graduation coming up and her father handing her that check on her birthday, it seemed like the perfect time. She was being responsible and mindful of the arrangement and held up her deal, especially since Rory's coming into adulthood and can make her own decisions. As an adult, it is important to pay of loans that we borrow. That's what she did. No shade. Emily needs to grow up and stop treating that girl awfully

    Lorelai could've been more tactful than to pay it back in one fell swoop on her birthday. She should've known her mother might react that way. It's not her fault that she does that, but if you can anticipate it, you at least know the ways to side-step it. Wait a week or two. Pay it back in smaller increments. Don't give her a chance to play the passive-aggressive card.
    Doesn't excuse that Emily, once again, acts like a child over it though. She clearly didn't ever want the money back, she wanted the Chilton tuition to, in effect, be Emily paying for the ability to have her daughter back in her life. She paid $30k or whatever it was to get Lorelai back in her life. I guess when money isn't a concern, you're willing to do stuff like that.
