How Come we never hear about the ATF doing anything else in their job description, i.e. Alcohol and Tobacco? Until they show THOSE aspects of their job description, they need to leave the other alone! That's discrimination!

M18s are entirely legal without an explosives device, they are in the same category as fireworks and i can legally go buy live surplus ones off gun broker and have them shipped to my door lol

It would be nice if you actually stocked the smoke mix on your site. All the colors say out of stock and have for over 8 months now!

Did you use the peanut butter smoke mix or whatever for the last or second to last purple demonstration you did? Granted the wind seemed to shift in the right way to help, but it did seem like the smoke was thicker and more abundant. Regardless-great ingenuity you guys and congrats on making something really cool!!

Doesn’t seem to be much smoke output, decent for signaling, but you aren’t going to be screening with those.

yea but like they said at the end of the video, you can use potassium nitrate mix to get 2-3x the volume. interesting product for sure.

I thought any device that is designed to take and fire a primer or blank is considered a firearm (or Destructive Device or Any Other Weapon) by the ATF? I'm not sure if I misheard and/or missed something, but am I correct in thinking that even the second version of the product shown here that was designed to not be regulated still utilizes small arms primers? The reason I'm asking is that I looked into other similar products (namely primer-activated simulated flashbangs for airsoft/paintball) commonly used in Europe and had discovered they were about as legal as a making your own real-life grenade would be (i.e. technically possible to get if you register it, get it serialized, pay enough money in bribes-err...I mean taxes...send in your prints, and much, much more!) but pretty much impossible for the average Joe and not worth the effort), and my understanding as to why such primer/blank firing simulation grenades were illegal was solely because they were designed to take a primer/blank. I'm assuming my interpretation was wrong, then, and there is indeed a way to design a primer actuated one without some busybody at the ATF taking issue with it?
As an aside, I'm wondering if using nail gun charges would be the way to do something like this to get around any 'firearm' issues completely. Powder-actuated nail guns (the kind that drive the nail by using little specialized rimfire cartridges that look similar to .22 LR blanks for those who may not be familiar with them) are not categorized and regulated as firearms, so they'd have a very hard time arguing that anything else using a nail gun charge, like a smoke grenade, would be a firearm either. Might be an easier way of doing things.

Did you ever get any answer? I’m
Very curious myself as I’ve been working on some designs myself to get around that very restriction. I see quite a few Airsoft grenades that are legally sold here that use 209 primers.. however the primer does NOT ignite anything. Maybe that’s why they get away with it. I see plenty of other pyrotechnic based Airsoft grenades that use pullring ignition and must uSe SOME sort or percussion cap or primer .

@@HangtownTactical I did come across a US civ legal 209 (shotgun primer) training flashbang that comes with an ATF letter stating it is not a destructive device. It does not have a fuse train but it's set off by impact, i.e. you pull the pin to 'arm' it and then toss it and when it hits something the kinetic impact causes the striker to go off and hit the pin. It's called the SFDI 209. Then there's another called Pulse Armament B1 Variable Timing training flashbang that also uses a 209 primer and has a mechanical timer you set from 1 to 75 seconds - it has an egg-timer sort of thing that counts down once the pin is pulled and the spoon is deployed, and once the timer is expended it releases the striker and pops the primer.
It's the first one that's relevent - 209 primer/shotgun blank firing grenade **with an ATF letter stating it's not a DD**. That clarifies that blank firing bois are okay...but I would still be wary of putting anything in a similar device, even a mixture made to produce smoke 'cause the ATF can be fickle and you don't want to accidentally create a DD. Fedbois do not care what your intent is and if your little fizzy smoke-puffer you made to play airsoft with the boys or just for fun can be construed to be a DD and you'd never hurt a fly you'll still end up in Florence federal Supermax next to the Unibomber.
