Hi Stephan, nice video about the Twin Shark and great pictures! The series version (I own the S/N 7) has some significant differences to the prototype. A completely new engine control unit with a color display with clear messages and symbols and an automated start-up and shut-down sequence. The instrument panel has been fully reworked to a better shape (less view blocking) in the front and to hold more instruments in the back (but still a very good sight from the rear seat), the flap lever is reworked for better ergonomics, the seat pans reworked and in carbon look plus a lot of other details. I like the great handling qualities of the glider, it really flies very similar to a single seater despite the slightly heavier controls. I have now one season of experience in our usually not to strong conditions and I'm always surprised how good it climbs even in weak thermals despite flying around 49kg/m2 double-seated.
I might be wrong, but it seems to have very stiff wings comparing to, let's say, Arcus. If so, how does it reflect on flying qualities? In that case I would imagine that it should have a more precise and immidiate response to aileron input, I would also expect a bit bumpier ride in the turbolence. Do you have some comparison to Arcus and ASG-32? Wish you lots of pleasure flying it!
Stefan je super a řídil náš první prototyp této verze. Firma HPH mi životně velice pomohla a já si toho velice vážím. Také jsem létal, ale v roce 1985. Tuto firmu prakticky řídí pan Kopecký, který je super chlap, velice lidský, rychlý a někdy trošku pomatený. Ale má dobré srdce a je fajn člověk
I did a some gliding 40+ years ago but have spent most of my life boring myself stupid flying airliners. Soon to retire I think I should go gliding again. Looks like pure joy.
Really good video as always with super editing! Being a private pilot at the beginning, I couldn't imagine i was going to fall in love so hard with gliding. I guess your channel is one of the main reason.
I really really love your drone shots in your Last few Videos, those are so cinematic and professionell and perfekt fit in in the hole vibe of your vids. Really enjoy your Lifestyle through your vids. Your are a role Model for Mandy Young glider Pilots like me!! Keep it up Stefan. 🤙🏼
Stefan…your production value is getting very good….I am so jealous that you are living what I lived for 3 years…only difference is that I flew A319 Jets for Air Namibia ….I absolutely love Namibia! The people are amazing and the scenes and animals are too….
had also the chance to make a 1100km test flight on the new TwinShark. I can confirm the impressions from Stefan. I wouldn't be surprised if the Shark is even slightly better in glide performance than the Arcus at very high speeds. Jaroslaw is an incredibly nice person and he has created a really fine product here. Agility in aileron response is slightly worse than Arcus but still really OK. Cockpit is very comfortable in front seat but in the back seat slightly worse than Arcus' back seat for big guys. Edit: Forgot one more thing: Shark is indredibly forgiving during thermaling too slow. In fact, you can't even tell the best thermal speed because it climbs well between 95km/h and 120km/h and seems not to care much if you are close to stall. Gets a little bit shaky when below 100 but still refuses to give up air flow. This makes it a nice glider for beginners but seems also to be a very safe plane for mountain flying
Hi Stefan, Congrats on your performance at the GP. I flew the Twin Shark yesterday. It's a very nice handling glider even with Jaroslav and me in the cockpit. ;) No issue with comfort for me in the back seat besides the lack of visibility and instrumentation. In the back of the prototype, there's just an LX. I knew this, yet I neglected to come to Kutna Hora with my own profile - a netto would have been very useful. It's a well finished glider for a prototype. Looking forward to my trip to the factory today. Cheers.
Hi Stefan, first of all thanks for the nice video. I flew the prototype some 2,5 years back and just one month back I had the chance to fly #3 in Kiripotib for almost 2 weeks. The newer Twin flies even nicer and more balanced, plus trimming is more easy than on the prototype. Climb performance is great and on glide it does a really good job. Stall charakteristiks are easy to understand and once you got in a stall it´s easy to recover. I choose to go to the worlds 2022 with the Twin Shark and I´m quite shure not to regret this decision.🤠Peter
Hi Stefan, thank you very much again for sharing your passion with us, I've just travelled to paradise flying in a marvellous glider in front of the TV, don't forget taking me with you for your next trip!
Bravo Stefan for this beautiful video ! Yes, as you said, even if this model is a prototype, we can see that the level of finish/quality is much better than on the Arcus for example. And that's probably what makes the difference.
Very nice video. One among many. Indeed, it would be nice to see you in a competition in the Shark flying against the Arcus and the 32. I would love to hear your comparison of these machines. Why? Thinking of buying one. Cheers.
I have no experience with the ASG32. For me the TwinShark would be the first choice because of the lower empty weight and the overall production quality. The only point to check is the comfort in the rear seat. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Nice video Stefan! You're making me want to seriously check out the TwinShark. But holy MOLEY those wings are EVEN stiffer than my DG505! I bet turbulence would be really uncomfortable, and ridge would not be a very good experience. What do you think? I think some comments about the rear seat experience is worth noting as well.
I had never problems with stiff wings, I love the direct feedback of a glider. In Namibia I had not the feeling that the wings are uncomfortable stiff. Of course the higher wingloading makes the glider less reactive to turbulences...
How tall are you, Stefan? Second question, I really like the flexible wings on the DuoDiscus because they give such good feedback. Are the Twin Shark wings similar?
Thanks Tim! They already improved the ergonomics of the flap lever in the serial production gliders. The distance between the flap positions decreased and the whole system moved slightly forward. For sure it is still a trad-off due to the shorter front part of the fuselage. On Facebook they commented, that is similar to the EB28 cockpit.
Tremendous work, Steffan. Your video sincerely makes me want to go to Namibia for a week or ten days and fly a twin shark or similar! What is the name of the gliding school/company you were flying with?
Thank you so much! It´s really a lot of work which Jonathan and I put into these videos. Of course it was a lot of fun to fly there! This airfield is called Veronica Flying: www.veronica-flying.de/

15 minute + video review with no mention of pricing? Still gave you a 👍 For the video, Because evidently few reviewers of any products seem to think price is an important detail
Sorry, the prices of gliders are not mentioned on the manufacturers webpage. The TwinShark starts at 145k € but with engine, avionics, trailer and VAT you will end up much higher.
Been trying to learn about these with the jets or propeller. Was curious if it’s for unassisted takeoff or to stay in the air longer. Appears like both, but I’m still unsure. Fill me in if you can !
Hi Stefan - nice job!!! I like your videos. Could you put a little details about cost of flying in Africa? I mean glider rental possibilities, towing cost etc...
The first question is if you want to have flaps? DG1001 and Duo Discus XL have a fixed wing. I would definitely choose the Duo because of handling and feedback. Twin Shark is a great glider, the only thing to know is that the space in the rear seat is more limited than in the Arcus. Both gliders fly really well! The price of a new Twin Shark might be significantly lower than an Arcus, that’s something I would also take into consideration.
@@SteFly thank you very much! All things never even considered yet, I'm new to gliders, I just really gained interest a week or so ago amd have been looking at different duo sailplanes (I wanna take a passenger or a bunch of gear!) And also local clubs to learn to fly them. Thanks for the awesome info, I'm looking forward to may here in California wjen the gliding clubs open... 😄
Just a question I know a glider pilots license doesn't require an FAA medical certificate like powered aircraft do, does the self launch engine put the glider into the powered aircraft category
Woher kommt der Störton in der Aufnahme? Insbesondere als du unter dem Höhenruder zur Kamera kommst, wird es stärker? Klingt fast so, wie ein Handy in der Hosentasche
It's difficult to film such a video in the heat. I could have closed the canopy but then you also need to use the canopy cover immediately. Doesn't look good on a video about the glider...
Amazing aircraft, but the lack of storage for your headset, Oxygen aparatus, water bottle and sandwich is a dealbreaker for me! They should have thought about this at HPH, its not an ASK13 that is used for basic training and only short local flights!
