Hard or soft clipping is loved by many, sometimes without people even knowing. Sausage Fattener is one of those plugins that makes things loud with clipping, and it was, at one point, one of the most beloved and hated plugins among producers. It reduces dynamics, adds color, and is easy to use. In this video, I show you what it does and provide a preset for Bitwig that almost replicates it exactly.

Endless Smile is a much better one knob plugin, from Dada. I have this and use it just because it's fun but it basically is just a volume knob with a cool GUI attached to it.

Next one should be the tricky BBE Sonic Maximizer. I know the plugin version did some tricky stuff that was awesome (some hidden limiting/clipping) and some weird phase shifting to get the eq changes with the saturation, I remember there is also a JS plugin (for reaper or a JS plugin loader which can be used in bitwig) but it doesn't behave the same. all I know is that the highend and lowend boosts you could get out of the hardware and plugin version can be quite tasty and I would love to see if you could pull that one off.

No sausage envy for me. I stay out of serious loudness wars.
I am interested in trying this stock plug-in preset along with the many other plugins that I use to master my music. Lord knows I've spent enough money on plugins in my initial torment in Pursuit to master to a respectable standard if not a professional one.

How crazy would it be if you looked into how Fabfilter Saturn works? :D

Saturn has so many parameters its almost impossible to recreate. You can do multiband dynamic and harmonic processes, frequency dependent modulation with many different distortion algorithms and even filtering... Deffinately not something that you could easily recreate. Check out the Dan Worrel tutorial for a great overview.

So basically it's a variable low Q BPF fed to an amp and some kind of tanh transfer function feeding a limiter with a threshold of around +1dBFS. Can replicate this with stock plugins so the price of around $40 is not worth it. Nothing magical about it.

The loudness war is a waste of time, we can turn anything up with amplification.
All you are doing is sacrificing dynamics. So yeah over rated and pointless, thanks for nothing Owen Jones!!!
