Hi Andy🖐. Thank you for the mention 😊. Must admit, the filter house has been a game changer for me and Clare loves it because I’m not under her feet but she knows where I am😂🤣. Looking forward to catching up with you at the shows😊👍
Sir, you are preaching to the choir. I wish I'd seen this before I'd started to make mine. It's been a glorious learning experience and my fish are looking forward to their new home, but I wish I had an undo button. The word s*** has been used several times in the last few weeks but I'm older and wiser and next time I can make NEW mistakes.
Nice update Andy 👍 and I'm sure my list of what I would do differently is double that, but every day's a school day now where I have i heard that before 🤔
Hiya, Thanks for that.. I doesn't seem to matter how much research you do before building a pond as there's always something you wish you'd done different..🤔😉👍
Always a school day. Especially when we see other ponds and see something that would have been better on your own pond... Watching you new project ..😉👍
Hi Andy, hindsight and all that…..😂 I wish I hadn’t shut down my last pond, which would mean I wouldn’t be stuck with my little puddle just now. However, I do still love having it, and well, you never know, one day……. Could be another one 🤞🏼 But also, everything is cheaper with a small pond. 😂
Power yeeeees!! My sparky is coming round today to fit 12 double sockets in my filter house!! Good little video Andy, I think I've got all that covered. Still I know that when I've finished there will be something I wish I had done different.
Hi Andy nice to see you back on the air, like you I built mine with a couple of regrets 1, Not putting in a skimmer & 2, biggest regret not putting in a window. But like they say "Everyday is a School Day" lol
Thank you so much! For these videos I've been watching because I have a small pond about 450 500 gallons that I have to rebuild. I hired a professional pond contractor to convert a spa and it's just been a nightmare and now the water is doing what you were warning about, how it just kind of sinks and wants to spread out. So the bottom part of the spy is starting to separate. But because of the experience I've had with that and the bog filter that I've been working on for over a year with two separate contractors and it keeps leaking. So I thought it would be wise if I learned what to do and how to do it. I'm sure I'll have contractor help me but maybe like my landscape contractor someone that I trust. Really long explanation but just wanted to tell you that so far your video about your bill was the most helpful that I've watched
So glad to hear the videos are proving helpful. Did you see my original pond build video I pointed out at the end of the video. That showed my original build in more detail for you.. Good luck with your pond build..😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Yes, as a matter of fact, that's the first video of yours that I saw, so I watched that one first and it. I really appreciate you pointing out the things that you wish you'd done differently. This is my big pond. My 4500 gallon is my fourth pond and there's still so many things that I would have done differently (like I had to put in initial skimmers because I didn't have them put a skimmer in at least have a bottom drain) hehe I will probably watch all of your videos now. I'm just starting a new video of yours. I think it's on filtration. I like to compare notes it seems that the rule of thumb changes with new inventions , etc . I was laughing because my equipment is also not in a house or a box so I have an umbrella over it and when it's raining I'm out there in the rain if I have to backwash or clean up the filter basket
I did the same thing. I didn't put a skimmer in my 4500 gallon pond but there are these. It's called a nicheless skimmer and if you just put in a submersible pump relatively small and you just screw the skimmer onto the nozzle on the pump and then it has a little basket you can clean out and they work amazingly well.( I actually have two) and they were only 80 bucks
Outdoor tap: so pleased I got one fortunately...tried an Oase plug in skimmer but it never sat straight in the pond..and there are trees/pollen all round me. Window : I was told fish always look better from above and not side on ? that said..I'd love to raise the pond and have windows. Filter system : I don't have the room for anything other than my pressure filter..I'm the same as you..I dont want to see it so it's hidden behind a ilttle privet hedge. Pond size is 8 x 8 x 4...couldn't go wider as it takes up almost 40% of the garden area. Got a 50wt outdoor LED on the back wall which lights up the pond at night ( on a timer ). Great video for today. If I ever win the lottery then I go 2' above ground and put in 2 windows if I could find someone to come and do it. The only thing I would look at again is a plug in skimmer of some sort..just not sure which. One mistake tho..buying an auto feeder. Its too big to have by my pond. That was a waste of money.
Hiya, thanks for the feedback 😊 The skimmer was fixed with just a piece of string and a small stone. I'll post you the link of the vid with the adjustment to make it work...😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle good vid. thanks. now for the questions..... Is the skimmer running every evening/night ? or just at certain times ( on a timeswitch ? )......I assume it works fine tethered to the side of the pond ? In mine I have the air stone set up at one end so all the debris/pollen etc would be forced to the middle or other end so is that where I would put my skimmer ?......I still don't undestand the use of the stone..is it for stability ?.....what make of skimmer do you have...THANKS
So, the string was to hold it in the corner so the unit opening was facing the middle at all times. The stone was placed in there after alot of trial and error to stop the the unit raising out of the water. I use the one I pictured in the lastest video the Oases swim skimmer.
Hi Andy, I bet 90% of us have at least one regret once the pond has been commissioned, being bigger probably top of the list. Great vid as usual, won’t be long and you will be able to break those lights out again 👍
Fully agree with your suggestions as mine would be the same but not the windows as I decided to put two in to be able to observe from different parts of the garden. Love your channel and keep up the good advice and posts. 👍
Could you please do a trial when filling the upside down aquarium. I've been planning to use pvc pipes to create a venturi thus sucking air from the aquarium to fill it up with water. The venturi is really just a pvc tee with an inlet for water, an inlet for air suction and an outlet for a mixture of air and water. Look it up, it's called venturi pump. It would be a great help if you try that because I don't have a pond yet to do it
Hi Andy, great video as usual, it’s frustrating to find your plans haven’t materialised as expected , your right everyday is a school day and I guess the only way to compensate for errors is to over kill first off, but if all we had to do was build a pond and enjoy it, there wouldn’t be half the content to view that’s available.
I don't have a pond or fish but enjoy your channel.. I always wonder why builders do not use glass wherever it is structurally and economically feasible? you want to see the fish as much as possible, not a cement wall.
Hiya, glad your enjoying the videos and content even though you don't have a pond or fish... Could I ask for some feedback please so I can learn for future videos. 🤔 How did you find the channel and what keeps you watching..cheers 😉👍.
