Great interview, thanks. George was always the funniest Beatle, not really the quietest Beatle. Loved it when he jumped from the chair when told Yoko had sat there. Yoko apparently got on George's last nerve. I guess she got on everyone's nerves except for John.
This is why I respect Ringo the most. He never lost sight of what this was really all about. Lots of money, drugs and sex. Whereas Paul became the consumate businessman and refined musican whose career would reach decades beyond the Beatles. John just went plain nuts. George got into all kinds of spiritual things and tried to shake off all of the material things of this world.
They were all rather sarcastic. George was into the hippie stuff long before the others. He introduced them to it, actually to Eastern music, too. George had dozens if not hundreds of songs written by the time the Beatles went belly-up. His first album, All Things Must Pass, was made up solely of songs written while he was a Beatle and it was a huge success. Self-absorbed, negative, sarcastic ,,,; are you sure you're not thinking of John Lennon? ;-)
I have watched this video so many times and still not tired of it. I'm not sure if i've commented on it earlier but this is really funny!!! I don't know why people are getting all serious here....this was just meant to be for laughs..lol!!
So George! His mocking of Paul is hilarious, and pretty true (and this coming from a girl who adores Macca). And being a Maccagirl, I loved the jab at Yoko. What a funny, wonderful man George was.
George did contribute some of the Beatles best songs: Don't Bother Me, If I Needed Someone, I Want to Tell You, Guitar Gently Weeps, Something & Here Comes the Sun.
Well, we're all entitled to our own opinions. All Things Must Pass was a good album in its own right. Those weren't really songs of the Beatles genre. A few of them were even covered by other bands - that were also not of the Beatles genre. George didn't show all of his songs to the rest of the Beatles. In their last 2 years he probably showed only a few as he had some earmarked for his solo career. I don't know why you've got such a hate on for George Harrison. That's not quite normal.
My first reaction when I see a title like that is, what are we the audience supposed to do about that or feel about that? People swear all the time. I think people are right to react negatively to this kind of tabloid-style cheap shot because it's really uncalled for. Yes, thank you for posting this old video from a time when I didn't believe video existed yet, but why resort to this to get people to watch it? Those of us who admire George or the Beatles will find it regardless.
They were all friends again, after it all ended much too soon. George passed away at Paul's LA home, there was alot of love and respect between them.Saw them in concert, what a GLORIOUS afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!
all the guitarists of that time were doing other peoples stuff including Page. Zeps first two albums were full of old blues tunes that Zeppelin put their name on.
Well, good and valid point. What I think most people, unfortunately miss, is the fact that these were simply four young men at the height of their careers. That creates a lot of tensions that more mature people could have dealt with better. While creatively they had so much to offer as a band, individually they couldn't keep it together.
@JackBandicootsBunker i don't think Harrison was arrogant, this interview reminded me of the famous beatle interviews with the american press upon arrival in the us for the first time. He always had a quick, sharp wit.
Woooaahhhh... what?! They both wrote amazing music. Look at their song credits. Each of them wrote classics. And even on their own they made great music.
I don't think George suffered from depression, I just think he was a quiet person who should never have been a famous pop star and perhaps not even married...someone who was supremely comfortable in his own skin. He always struggled with fame and attention and very relieved when the Beatles were over. After their last gig at Candlestick Park, while on the tour bus going back to the hotel, he remarked, "Right that's it then - I'm not a Beatle any more."
If you're a Harrison fan, hopefully you have watched "George Harrison: Living in the Material World", a phenomenal documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. George did great with the ladies. Olivia Harrison confirms, that George was a killer pickup artist, because of his charisma. Paul refuses to disrespect Harrison in the movie, but indicates that George was a 'red blooded male'. And that's as far as Paul would go, yet confirming Harrison's love for female companionship. I miss Harrison.
.. but George reached a point where he didn't care if John or Paul were impressed with him. He realized he'd spent so much time fighting through them to get the crumbs of space he was able to get on all those Beatle records. The Beatles are a wonderful part of history and did amazing things.. but they had the potential to do more and go further and missed it.
Nah man, they all brought a different dimension: Paul with his mirth and brightness; John, his dark and grit; George, his mystic and surreal... and Ringo had "Octopus's Garden" .
I have stopped treating them as sacred cows. Once you knock the Beatles off their pedestal, the music becomes a better listen. It is almost sacrilegious to say anything negative about the Beatles. George is my favorite. I received Meet The Beatles when I was 2yrs old, on Christmas the year it was released in US. I took naps to it.
@nomiclas I already came to the USA and I really enjoyed it. I wish I could come back very soon... wish I was younger too, to make my life over there !
Irevzin- I got to see this the day it was made. I miss relevant talk shows. Dick Cavett (the interviewer) loved to have controversial guests. Nowadays most talk shows are sensationalistic or they cover how YOU can improve YOURSELF!!!!
Are you kidding?!? Yoko HAS donated millions to charity! Are you suggesting she should donate it all away? Here's a flash for you: the money wasn't simply left to her by John, it is hers as well! Not only by his wishes (which you don't seem to respect) but by right as his wife. Further, she earned much of it herself through investments! She ran the Lennon's offices and multiplied thier fortunes! Julian has always bitched that he should have MORE...it's all about the money with him! Not setiment.
Spot on. The Saint George revisionism is hilarious, and wrong. Suddenly he's the "best" musician and the "best" songwriter in the Beatles. No, he wasn't. He wrote 5 or 6 great Beatles songs; John and Paul wrote dozens. And for the record, let's hear from George Martin about who the best musician in the band was: "Paul McCartney." Look, George was great, too, you know. But he wasn't a better singer than John & Paul, or a better musician than Paul.
Why not title this George Harrison's humorous side. Why do you feel you have to sensationalize your title? This is classic George being mischievous giving Dick Cavette some grief. Frightwolf, just because George made mention about the down side of being a celebrity and how we treat our planet, doesn't in any way take away from the fact that he made incredible contributions in his life to music, philanthropy, and that he was also a flawed character.
In d.c i see plenty of statues to MLKJ but none for malcolm x, and mlkj didnt do shit for me you see,so its a matter of opinion.Looking at the stones youve got the two recognisable members, but you cant have a two man band.
Just somewhat correct. They were sick of each other because they were fighting too often. And that happened in part due to bad manners and unrealistic expectations from yoko along with lennon allowing her to think she was "directing" their sessions etc. And the conflict due to him allowing it because he liked her, without regard to how it might make the other Beatles feel. So, she's not the only reason of course, but I'd say she was a lead weight pulling them down when they began to sink.
Actually I know you didn't mean anything about the title. I have got to say that George openly insulted Paul quite a bit, and Paul caught alot of stuff over the yrs. from him and John.
When are people going to let that poor woman off of the hook. John was a big boy who made his own decisions. Their demise was inevitable, like a shooting star that burns bright, it will eventually burnout. Like any relationship, people grow up and apart.
I'm just talking about George's contributions to Beatle songs. I know there are nay sayers who point out that he was never a guitar great like Hendrix or Clapton, but that wasn't his role with the Beatles It.was to fit into some involved Lennon McCartney arrangments. I actually didn't follow his solo career very much.
Because people "put you on a pedestal", doesn't mean you can't have a killer sense of humour :-) Every Beatle will (and should) embarass "the media", when they ask them a stupid question.
"All religions are branches of one big tree. ... Just as cinematic images appear to be real but are only combinations of light and shade, so is the universal variety a delusion. The planetary spheres, with their countless forms of life, are naught but figures in a cosmic motion picture. One's values are profoundly changed when he is finally convinced that creation is only a vast motion picture and that not in, but beyond, lies his own ultimate reality." - George Harrison
@SuperQweertyuiop - No, most Americans (though I can only speak for the majority in the US) love the Beatles. There is a LOUD minority here that drowns out the sane majority, so everyone on the outside listening in think we're all rabid haters. The only thing I hate is haters. Anyway, this video is awesome! Thank you, MetrazolElectricity, for sharing it!
I seriously doubt any of the Stones would agree to that. Jagger said several times that during the 60s, they were constantly trying to keep up with the Beatles in terms of composition and innovation but only to keep being a step behind them. Sure, the Stones outlasted the Beatles, but that doesn't mean they bested them. After the disasterous Their Satanic Majesty's Request album (them trying to duplicate Sgt. Pepper), they finally came to terms that basic R&B was their best forte.
it's really sad.. i think the Beatles reached heights but could have reached higher. Paul & John saw themselves as gatekeepers and yet there was plenty of room for George's songs when you think of how he might have been a more regular contributor early on and how rubber soul and revolver are such short albums .. after that their albums are full but there were many opportunities for singles and b sides that could have yielded some great results for George and the Beatles
why do people always feel the need to prove themselves? yes the beatles spoke about and were rather forward about their views on things like religion and rascism...but they also spoke of PEACE! and how beautiful the world could be if we only respected our fellow man. it just feels wrong and disrespectful to say ugly things on the videos of 4 men who gave the world such a beautiful gift :)
Yoko put up with it? John was cocky true enough before he met Yoko but it was Yoko who talked him into thinking he was a genius and the greatest performer ever
Did you ever think it was because he didnt want to write? Lennon-McCartney had good things going, maybe he was happy being the guitarist The amount he wrote is irrelevant. Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominoes, and the Sex Pistols had each released only one album, does that mean they sucked because of it? what does quantity have to do with anything?
I actually met George Harrison at Donington Park at a motorbike race when I was about 10, 30 odd years ago. He struck me as a very polite and nice bloke even before I mentioned that I liked the Beatles. He had time for people and didn't mind signing his autograph. Decent bloke.
" most thought he was the least attractive of the four " Pardon me? I had the biggest crush on him. I thought he and Paul were good looking. Could NEVER see the attraction to John Lennon. Still can't. And Ringo, well... he seemed like a really nice guy.
Paul & John were unquestionably great song writing geniuses, but George could add guitar hooks to their songs that no one else would have ever thought of. He never never wanked on guitar. Every riff was exactly what the song needed.
I've heard several differing opinions of George as a guitarist. Some say he was adequate but not outstanding. Others say he was way underrated. When I listen to his catchy little solo on "Hard Day's Night" or his beautiful riffs on "Something", I know he could pull off just about anything Clapton, Santana or Keith Richards could do. He had to play with more restraint than most guitarists because the Beatles didn't write repetitive 4 chord songs that lent themselves to 3 minute guitar solos.
You have no clue what George was about. He never "shoved" any god down anyone's throat, he was merely a seeker for inner light, real spirituality rather than the church-fed hypocrisy, and obviously you completely missed that. George was the last one in the group to take anyone for a ride, he didn't worry about being loved like Paul and didn't self delude himself the way John had. John never had an iota of the piece of mind that George enjoyed-EVER.
"Yoko sat in that very chair"
"Oh" -stands up quickly-
We love you George, I can't believe today marks 10 years without you
Why on Earth are there so many dislikes for this? Does Yoko have that many accounts?
Great interview, thanks. George was always the funniest Beatle, not really the quietest Beatle. Loved it when he jumped from the chair when told Yoko had sat there. Yoko apparently got on George's last nerve. I guess she got on everyone's nerves except for John.

George was by far the coolest of the group. Just a naturally funny guy. Miss him and John.
Few people can play slide guitar like George did and yes he was an integral member of the greatest band ever.
0:48
Paul got them all. with his dance.
LOVE IT WHEN HE DOES THAT
George Harrison was one of the most underated guitarist. There were so many great instrumentals he did,but he always remained in the background.
Great vid. All of the Beatles were quick witted. Funny dudes.
I have watched this video so many times and still not tired of it. I'm not sure if i've commented on it earlier but this is really funny!!! I don't know why people are getting all serious here....this was just meant to be for laughs..lol!!

They were all friends again, after it all ended much too soon. George passed away at Paul's LA home, there was alot of love and respect between them.Saw them in concert, what a GLORIOUS afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe, lol.George may have not been everything hestood for,but i think he complemented what is probably the greatest band, always and forever.

George's sense of humour was very English. Guess americans just don't get it.
I've played 0:24 repeatedly...wonder if it was bleeped out, cause it's cut out. Whatever he said, the audience laughed and applauded.
he wasnt insulting them lool he was hilarious!
Oh, come on! He doesn't INSULT Paul! It's just a little joke! No harm done.
BTW, George, you were the best!
Are you kidding?!? Yoko HAS donated millions to charity! Are you suggesting she should donate it all away? Here's a flash for you: the money wasn't simply left to her by John, it is hers as well! what did George say when they censored him
the end was definitely hilarious
This so-called anti white posting is making the rounds on youtube by some nutty people...
It's the place where he's cussing and the usage of the word is funny.
this was George during his Billy Connolly period :D
" Yoko sat in that same chair "
" uahhhhhh"
He didn't insult Paul, he did insult Yoko. And Yoko deserved to be insulted.
Spot on. The Saint George revisionism is hilarious, and wrong. Suddenly he's the "best" musician and the "best" songwriter in the Beatles. No, he wasn't. How can you say such a thing about Paul? Awful.
George is cool!

Paul never married anyone called Nancy! lol! And the Beatles were the best group in history,
George was my favorite. And Ringo, well he was just Ringo. But I think George was so under-rated as a Beatle.

Wow....... His hair is so pretty.
Cavett STILL beats all interviewers!
"Imagine no possessions...." and then he should have added,"But you're not getting mine". Yer,he was really deep and he gave all his money away....

Where the hell are those chairs!?!?!
You all got the chance to actually know who he was when he passed ....I was two how do you think I feel
Insults? He mimics Paul and checks to make sure he hasn't sat on Yoko. Where I come from, that's called 'humour'.
I could never figure out what he played on "Hard Day's Night".
How is this insulting em'? Paul is my favorite Beatle, and i laughed. XD
Go John Lennon. You tell that interviewer.
The Smiths eventually blew them away.
@TwoUselessLegs
Phil Spector producing him certainly had an impact
epic fail...you could have at least rick rolled us

I loved the 'Yoko' Reaction. RIP George.
Metrazo should change the name of this video, George is not insulting anyone.

He said - people think I'm a c--t. They were probberly right too.
please...can anyone translate what did George say???thanks a lot!!! I'm italian!
@Logoned What you are talkin about? Paul is amazing. I have seen him twice in concert and he seemed very nice.

This is how all the beatles were. they are just ripping on each other not insulting
Interviewer: "Yoko sat in that very chair."
George: *leaps up and looks alarmed* "Ah!"
Lighten up, folks. He was just having a laugh in a playfully teasing way, it wasn't mean spirited hateful insults.
"I think Paul used to get them all with his *shimmies*"
xDDDD
I love George. And this is hilarious.
" most thought he was the least attractive of the four "
Pardon me? I had the biggest crush on him. I thought he and Paul were good looking. Could NEVER see the attraction to John Lennon. Still can't. And Ringo, well... he seemed like a really nice guy.

How can a Beatles fan not like:
Eleanor Rigby
Hey Jude
Let It Be
Black Bird
Golden Slumbers
Oh Darling???
I've heard several differing opinions of George as a guitarist. Some say he was adequate but not outstanding. Others say he was way underrated. What insult?
George rocked!
George Harrison is one of the most classy and lay back guys ever
keep your racism off beatles videos please
It was just being light-hearted. No insult that I saw. In fact, a compliment to Paul's stagecraft.
