1976, San Miguel, bar girls, mystery meat on a stick, 10 for $1 thai stick (if ya know ya know) and the rock cover bands on Magsaysay st. that were insanely good. Some memories will never fade.
Many, many hours on the flight deck of the US Hancock with VF-51.between 1965 through 1967....always looked forward to going to olongapo for R and R ... great copycat bands who didn't speak english but sounded just like the originals. Monkey meat tasted sooo good going back to the ship after a fun day in the bars, falling in love for the day, or hour...lol So disappointing that the original town was bulldozed after the US was kicked out. Great memories. Thanks for posting the video.
i wonder when these pictures where taken?? was the band at 1 minute at bogarts on Magsaysay? i was there 89/90 C company marine barracks naval communications stations San Miguel and naval radio station capas tarlac till they closed and then went to B co. cubi point, i was there when mt. Pinatubo erupted. man i loved it there. watch a lot of videos of Philippines now and look even nicer
Its a Great flashback for me except can't remember seeing any paved streets in Olongapo other than on the Subic Bay Naval base during my two WestPac deployments on USS Coral Sea 1966-68 and USS Ajax 1968-69, had to dodge the pot holes during the rainy season.
Zebra Club and Freak Stagger Inn Ruled! God Bless the PI. Never has been and never will be that much Fun had by ALL! Pattaya Beach Thailand Close second?
I was there with 9th ESB C. Co. from January to May 1991. Spent a couple nights at the Salem Hotel seen at 4:43 with a couple different 'friends' for the night. 😉 Good times!
You missed out. If you would have traveled beyond Magsaysay blvd you would have fallen in love with the people and the beauty that the Philippines has to offer. I was a dependent and lived on base from 1973 to 1977 after which my father retired and started several businesses in Barrio Baretto. I left after I graduated from high school but I returned yearly until my folks left for good in 1985.
In the summer and fall of 1980 I was one of (supposedly) only two round eyed woman living in Olongapo. Had an apartment above Papagios on Gordon Street. My husband was deployed for 6 months. I followed him unsponsored. Wish I could go back.
I was in the navy but was on the east coast. I heard a lot about subic bay as a great libery port. Never got to go there. My two company commamders were Phillipinos. I never met any one from the Philippines in my life until i went into the Navy. The Philippines lost 2 million people in world war 2 fighting the Japanese. Looks like china is the problem now. The globalists built china up for their third great cataclysm. Let the sheeple sleep. Too complex for them. Like the pictures wish I could have went there.

The times before the internet for sure! I enjoyed Olongapo back then.
Naval shipboard life has been described as being in prison with the possibility of drowning but those visits to Subic made it all worthwhile.
Good times and great memories! Certainly wish I could relive those days…
Finally! Thank you!! THIS WAS MY YEAR! BINGO!!!!

I was there in 88. It's interesting that the hair styles looks so different now, but back then I didn't notice any of the change in the last 36 years.
