How to Create an iPhone Calendar Appointment

In this video, you will learn how to use the Calendar app on your iPhone to add an appointment. The iPhone calendar app is an easy way to remember appointments, birthdays, and any other future event.
The iPhone calendar app lets you choose the date, time, and duration of an event. You can also set reminders to alert you at a specific time before the event so you don't forget it. You can also add notes about the event. Once you add the appointment to the calendar, you can click on the day and the appointment will be blocked out. Click on the appointment to see all of the details, or to make changes.
This iPhone tutorial applies to iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 7, as well as S and Plus models.

You have to go to Settings > iCloud > Turn on Contacts. Then the "+" will appear on your Calendar again.

What if the appointment is not on a 5-minute interval. Like I want to record my golf tee time at 9:17 or the time lightening strikes the clock tower at 10:04 pm

Blocked out. Not blacked out. To help prevent double booking your time. When creating the event you can also say whether you are “free” or “busy”. Busy might be a lunch date, free might be something you just want to be reminded of, but you’re still available.

Here is the Text for the steps
Create Appt in iPhone:
1) Tap on Calendar
2) Tap the Month you need
3) Tap on + in top-right corner for new event/appt
New screen will open
4) In Title box type name of event
5) In Location box, select either from recent ones or type new Location
6) Select Start Date, Time, AM/PM
7) Select End Date, Time, AM/PM
8) Tap Alert bar, if you need reminder & select one option
9) At the bottom you can type notes, if needed
10) Tap "ADD" in top-right corner to finish
