I honestly don't care in either case. It's not like people who do a lot of commission work put their heart into all the work they do anyway. Producers who toss out 50 tracks per month to clients is no better than an AI. It's selling technical expertise, not art.

It use to be hard to tell the difference between AI and real, but my God, it's so obvious now when something is AI puke, it really has made me appreciate real artists more.
Depends on the prompt and model really. Most of the people using these tools don't really have that much of an artistic eye and lack the skills to make something really creative out of the output that the model gives them. That's why a lot of it looks the same and they go for these baroque type of pictures with a bunch of things happening without meaning.
If you look at good normal art, you can see that a lot of the elements have intent behind them. That's not the case with ai art which is why you get that soulless feel from it.

No matter how good the prompt/output, at the end of the day, even the best AI-generated images are soulless, even if completely indistinguishable from the artifacts of real art/music.
Why? **There's no conscious mind driving the formation...** Therefore, it's AI-generated SOUND, not MUSIC... End of story.
Edit: Prompting AI to create a "High quality, Soundcloud, Kendrick Lamar 808s 80BPM type beat" (or some top-tier prompt aiming for what you want) . . .

But the logic that there is no conscious mind driving anything is 50% false. Its called prompt engineering now... dont be lazy and expect 0 work from your side!!! no matter what they promise.
I think AI will become as good with faking or more accurately learning "conciousness" and then use that very "conciousness" to drive the fake or learned music algo to produce that REAL FEEL music. But okay not here YET.

that said try instead to prompt AI with IMPOSSIBILITIES or UNIQUE ORIGINAL IDEAS from the AI like "afro-indo, ethic, guitar instrumental with a spicy, wavey mood about reaching god after an epic battle with the devil - Neo fusion INSTRUMENTAL" then split the stems and make actual original art from it (and if you add those ratcheting hats and gritty 808's better make them ORIGINAL)

As an illustrator and visual designer, I would have made the art look almost like Abelton and/or Bitwig's interface along side more a symbol or illustration that is more representive of the message on each card. Or I would have made it look and like a full on Tarot deck or something

Well said 👍 yep it's a total ripoff of Oblique Strategies. But it's not as good because it's very prescriptive whereas Eno's cards are deliberately vague and opaque with the suggestions so you can interpret them in wildly different ways.

Are we going to mention the fact he didn't use his deck in his song? There were like two bass movements, not even necessarily two chords. Which of course is not a requirement of music, but when your product is based on chordal movement and a kind of RNG of chordal movement you'd think he'd highlight that.

i got an interesting one - im working on a game called DJ SIMULATOR and im including a default library of music, meaning i want about 100 songs ready to go on full release next year some time. I'm making SO MUCH MUSIC, and so when it comes to the album art, i figured it was such a small insignificant part of the game that "it's better with it than without it"
when i've show the project to people, they focus on the fact that i've declared the project as having AI art in it for the album covers - they make up such a small portion of the game but PEOPLE CARE NOW. i'd be better off scribbling some shit in paint now just to take it off the steam page D:

If you use Splice isn't that similar to using stock images? Noting wring at all about how that artist made those cards. That how making digital art has always been. The reason for using AI is so that you dont need to license an image for commercial use which is expensive. It does take more creativity to generate an image than to simply select one form Getty or whatever.
AI art mainly tries to mimic and replicate what humans have done in the past. It draws inspiration from existing works created by people. You can still find similar images on the internet today, and some were uploaded to certain websites 14 years ago.

ppl really dislike someone using Ai as their art to sell a product.. illenium recently did the same thing and ppl were not impressed. 2 reasons for this.. the Ai software scans ppl's art. so it technically could be stealing depending on what software they used. Just like Udio and Suno scanned spotify without telling ppl.. same thing literally. and the second reason is because ppl want to see someone with money pay and actual human, support the industry from within, don't destroy it.. leave that for the big record companies to do.. it's when an individual does this sort of thing ppl get pissed.

Honestly, I disagree it's a bad way to get inspiration. I mean, everything can be an inspiration (if you are brave enough lol). And while Andrew's cards are obviously an Oblique Strategies ripoff, I think neither is a bad way to get inspired. I'd not buy Andrew's cards, especially while Eno's ones are completely free, but what's more important, I think everything can make a creative spark for us producers. It can also be a book, a picture on the internet, a pizza box writing, experiencing touching grass or whatever. No need to buy anything for creative inspiration really.

FLStudio has gone a better route with ai - using it to generate interesting chord progression ideas, its more complex than simple midi collections of progression. Also Apple are doing it right with generating drums and basslines, where their ai is trained on midi music rather than being trained to generate wav files.
Give it time.. AI quality will JUMP and already Udio is a goldmine of textures and samples in good enough quality to make future genres with. The trick is always to break or bend the rules if you want that exciting life. For instance, DONT generate songs with udio... use it for something unexpected (trust me its rewarding as hell). Also DONT use AI generated chords... USE THAT FUCTION LIKE NO ONE ELSE CAN IMAGINE!

Lately I’ve been using AI generated music but creatively. The results usually suck or it comes out super cheesy and lame if you want something nice and melodic. But I generate a ton, keep the best ones, put them in Moises and separate the stems, then take a bunch of these separate stems and put them into FL studio. Then I just use bits and pieces, throw on effects, stretch them, reverse them, pitch them up and down. Layering them all. Oh, and put them all in the same key of course. And when you do that, you can kind of create cool textures and stuff. Or it all together kind of creates a melody or something and you can go off of that and start adding your own elements on top of that. Works for drums too. It’s fun to do when you’re someone like me that gets “beat block” like a lot because I’m not really a musician but I still like trying to make music for myself to enjoy and I love the process and doing something creative and productive with my time.
Oh and I guess you could do this with preexisting samples of course but I have this weird guilt about relying on samples too much. I have it in my head that I have to do it all myself, aside from using one shots. But for some reason it feels less bad when I’m taking from something that didn’t exactly exist before. I don’t know…
This is such an obvious usecase ... but its harder than hating.

Music is something that people do for fun. If it provides fun it makes money easily. Look at this channel... they just rip off the news and its FUN! MUSICIAN is NOT a real career. That idea is a prank played on the millions by the 1 in a million guy that CAN provide enough fun . THATS how the industry sells you the dream. Didnt you know? Or did you believe them that if you worked your ass off you would EARN your place among the stars? To this day its a lie. For the artist having FUN, and providing FUN... its much easier. Only 1 in a million will make it because they finally understand their audience and ENJOY the satisfaction they SEE... that keeps them productive.. Do you see any satisfaction in your audience? Do you see them having fun with your "music"? Do you know what fun even is? You can easily get money from people if you have what they NEED. If they dont need what you have.. change to something they DO. Theres no secret there... its called DEMAND vs SUPPLY... and the SUPPLY in your genre/platform is smothering you. Dont try to be the "best" or "greatest" or try to come up with a trick or gimmick or even improve your quality.... Try to spot a gap or a micro niche that is UNDERSUPPLIED. Mumble rap almost worked for the first few until the demand was wiped by supply. Trap still has legs but you must understand the shape and form of the demand! Edm can still work if you BREAK ALL THE RULES and create a new DEMAND.
