James Lindsay using words like "esoteric" and "gnosticism" out of context is like seeing that clip from Family Guy where Peter hears two guys on TV having a discussion where they use "shallow and pedantic" and then Peter turns around that evening and calls Lois's cooking shallow and pedantic.
And the word punchline being used wrong in between all that lmfao…
the punchline is that this comment is shallow and pedantic
Listening to JP talk about Marxism is like listening to a fish talk about mountain climbing
This topic is very frustrating for people that do understand Marx.
The vast majority have no clue what Marx is actually presenting, the predictions and the current conditions that confirm the theory.
The irony of our economic condition today is that most will agree these things are happening and causing the working class to struggle
Technology, outsourcing, corporations consolidating, banking consolidation, etc etc are causing a widening gap between the working class and the owner class.
Every time someone complains about production being outsourced or replaced by technology, they are confirming the conditions Marx predicted.
Unfortunately, instead of trying to understand the LTV people hand wave away what they don’t understand
Someone has exclusively read Marx and not Engles lmfao

I was about to say, if all this stuff was true, that would be BAD ASS. Who doesn't want a Gnostic Luciferian Marxist president??
Luciferian ideals of enlightenment, liberty and revolution are foundational to American philosophy. Nothing Devilish or Satanic about it
They do it with every milquetoast liberal that is firmly (slightly) left of center….

"Everything I don't like is Nazi" A guide for winning arguments on the internet by Democrats.
Aka winning arguments as apes vs monkeys.
And it works too. Not because they (smart right wingers) are correct about Marxism but because it is such a dishonest & dramatic shifting of the goalposts that it leaves the American Left defending neoliberals like Harris & Obama who are our class enemies (generally speaking) against the charge of being advocates of a philosophy that they (the American Left) should generally agree with.
This subtly reinforces the idea that Marxism is wrong in the hearts & minds of average ppl with little understanding of Marxism or political theory in general. After all why are American Leftists defending liberals/neoliberals against the charge of being communist/Marxist if there is nothing wrong with it?
IOW it is not done to win arguments per se it is done to win hearts & minds of average ppl by preying on their ignorance and preying on the predictable reflex of the American Left to rely on logic & reason against this particular bad faith attack.

I think the key to being a grifter is not to understand Marx, but to understand what people fear about Marx. Good luck on your new grifting journey. I believe in you.
Correct, but much more accurately, what _I_ tell you Marxism is.
Same with Nazis, you don't need to know anything about race to talk about it (as evidence by their beliefs) as they spend all the time talking about irrational fears about race than race itself. Just like the AI grift too; don't explain what it can do, as it cant really do anything, instead play on people's fears of AI and use that to make out you know what you're talking about.
All grifts are the same. Playing on the unfounded fears of the uneducated.

Do you remember when Bee Elle Em pulled the scam of the century on you guys a few years ago? That's one reason why J&J are so concerned with Marx. People who are motivated by bitterness and envy often can't see a bad idea when it's an inch from their face.
as a rule, every influencer is a grifter until proven otherwise
If you want to learn about Christianity you ask a Christian. If want to learn about history you ask a historian. If you want to learn about Marxism you should ask a capitalist apparently. 🤷♂️ Arguments in bad faith are tiresome.
To be fair, I wouldn't learn about Christianity by just asking a Christian, because they're going to see it with rose-tinted glasses. I'd also seek out critics of Christianity. However, there is a difference between criticism that honestly seeks to accurately understand what it is critiquing, and the dreck produced by the two numbskulls in question.
So if I want to learn about you, I should ask you? Wouldn’t that be one sided?
@@yujtah That would be having a conversation in good faith. It's always a good idea to get multiple perspectives. My point is that if you want to understand why something is important to someone the most reliable source is that person. Setting aside your own experiences and opinions is the only way to understand them. If you're secure in your own beliefs there's nothing to worry about asking others why they believe what they believe. With a little digging I think we'll find that everyone is just scared, confused, and defensive of their beliefs.
@@dallenpowell2745 yes, you can do that, but not to appease to marxists, because there is no one representative of marxism apart from Marx himself. So if you are going to invite a guy X on your platform, some marxists would say his not a real marxist, etc, and you should'v invited professor Y.
Furthermore, I don't think that interview, with a guy who described Marx as a satanist was done because Peterson wanted to learn what marxism is (I think he has good enough understanding of marxism), it's probably because he encountered interesting ideas about Marx, which he never heard before and wanted to share them on his platform.
The verdict on marxism is already settled for him. It's not like it's a new idea, it's an old ideology, that you can read books about and learn history of implementation of these ideas. No need to interview a fresh ivy league grad to layout some basics about marxism for Peterson.

@@WisecrackEDUthen denies he said that - not very precise in his speech.
This is the part that always gets me. Peterson is just SO openly disingenuous that it's actually wild that he has fans.
No, he just read the wikipedia article about the communist manifesto.
The funny thing about linking Harris's "unburdened" line to Marx is that there's an epic Marx quote, in my all-time favorite Marx book, _The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte_ (and right at the beginning of it) that addresses that concept more directly than any of these roundabout reinterpretations of the _Manifesto_ and the _1844 Manuscripts_ - and it goes against her formulation:
"Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living."
_None of us_ is "unburdened by what has been" - even as we strive to overcome and move beyond it.
Exactly! History doesn’t go away. The new world is born within the ruins of the old.
Basically what Harris means with her bloomy poetic quote is „let’s imagine radical change“ (and I don’t believe her ideas are radical at all, but they sadly seem so to some). She basically says: Let’s imagine a future that is really very different from the past. Let’s dare to be bold in our imaginations about how the future can be and not be like „but we have always done this stuff that way!“
Obviously, a communist revolution would be one example of radical change, but not all radical change is necessarily a communist revolution. There are so many historical examples of radical change (for example the fact that we don’t really use horse carriages anymore), so nothing esoteric about it. But obviously it is true that we can never truly be unburdened by the past.
@@p.s.224"Obviously, a communist revolution would be one example of radical change."
And that's what Marx was all about. He said this was inevitable, and he was wrong about that. He did everything he could to bring it about, and fuck him for that.
Fuck Marx. Because he was a revolutionary, because he tried to bring about the communist revolution everywhere. Absolutely fuck him for that. That's what this is about.

The tradition of all the dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brain of the living. And just when they seem engaged in revolutionizing themselves and things, in creating something that has never yet existed, precisely in such periods of revolutionary crisis they anxiously conjure up the spirits of the past to their service and borrow from them names, battle cries and costumes in order to present the new scene of world history in this time-honoured disguise and this borrowed language."
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
Any of my students on presentation day.
This is too accurate
TL;DR (I think, havent seen the video yet but ive studied this too) these guys are deathly afraid of going after current socialist economists, so instead they're going after a guy 140 years dead who happened to have some of his theory used in dictatorships, and who also has a niche base of diehard support in current day that they can act is much larger than it actually is.
yeah basically that.
I can make it shorter:
TL;DR an insane religious fundamentalist and a guy who does a bunch of Benzos and stares at Soviet propaganda all day say weird nonsense.
@@garrettfleetwood4702For PeterScam, I might suggest working "messiah complex" in there somewhere as well.
They're not intelligent enough to debate Michael Hudson, Richard Wolff or Anwar Shaikh.
@@TheMahayanist I would be as bold to say that Peterson et al are not intelligent enough to debate a sock puppet. As he couldn't even converse with Zizek without Zizek metaphorically pulling Peterson's pants down and effectively saying "behold your leader" as he puts his grizzled ignorance on display for all to see by simply saying "are the Radical M arxists in the room with us now?"
My favorite thing about Lindsay is that he believes himself incredible self important and instrumental to the right but always responded when I still had a Twitter. He is so insecure he'd reply to my 300 or so follower self just to get trolled harder. He's trash.
thank you for your service
Communism is trash
22:32 yes, the answer is yes
Literally, he's a grifter
Confuse and frighten right wing people by explaining that you're a non-Marxist socialist.
hand them a copy of the Green Book
And im a humoral-theory physician. I know this is about conservatives, but cmon its not the 18th century, theres a reason why you have to specify "non-Marxian" rather than idfk "John Doeian socialism", and thats simple: we have forgotten the other forms of socialistm because they do not tangibly exist. Also conservatives cant comprehend that socialists hate liberals, you're 12 pages ahead of the assignment.
Right out of the gate, Lindsay saying he doesn't know is Harris is a "high-level Marxist" or "low-level Marxist" is amusing.
the proud right wing tradition of refusing to know what words mean.
Spoopy spooky Gay Cultural Marxism oOooo... 👹 that's it.
It seems to me that understanding any material would necessitate actually reading it as a first step lol
you would think.
Derperson is so big brained that he does not need any reading to be dead wrong about everything.
@@WisecrackEDU Well Michael, Jordan Peterson also believes theology is anthropology. He made a biblical series called "Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories". After that he did "Biblical Series: Exodus". If you watched the first episode of both then you would know this. I have told you this about 3 times before with patience and empathy but all I can say now is that you are a hateful hypocrite. You might want to try watching the first episodes of those for next time before you embarrass yourself again.
@@Entheos84you seem unnecessarily angry. Try going outside. It will help.

I met Lindsay once. He has definitely not read Marx.
none of them have
Someone was studying the blade while Michael was reading nerd stuff.
I like how you look the most blazed during your most sober video delivery
It amuses me how they suppose that calling something or someone "Communist" and/or "Luciferian" and such means those are evil things by definition. 🤪
"Philosophers" attempting straw man attacks. What a time to be alive!
He seems to be implying that all rebellion is evil.
So, clearly, he's a spook for the Redcoats.
As I recall, William Buckley was once asked in a debate if the American Revolution was justified under the reasoning he applied to other revolutions.
@@Nemo12417I love to know his answer.
Peterson has become UNAVOIDABLE, he really needs to pipe it down
Nah man should keep at it. He's doing a great job of broadcasting the intellectual bankruptcy of the collection of grifters he represents.
As a Swede, your Danish was flawless. I couldn't understand a single word. 😙👌
lol I love the internal linguistic bullying between Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians.
I’ve talked to a Dane about the Danish language and apparently they don’t understand it either.

the most useless class in high school is the ruling class
For an economist, philosopher and sociologist they've NEVER READ (mind you!) they certainly have plenty of opinions on Karl.
Always interesting how the Anti-Communists are always seeing Communists everywhere, but the United States is one of the most difficult countries to establish a sustainable Left Movement of any kind of a large scope and scale.
LOL exactly this - they are desperate to avoid acknowledging that every single issue they have with modern society (loss of religion, community, traditional values, etc.) is entirely the result of capitalist consumerism intentionally hollowing everything out, commoditizing everything including people and even sexuality, and turning all of life and culture into a lowest-common-denominator attempt to sell products, for the sole purpose of making profit. .....But no, it's the phantom commies that somehow did all this LOL it's like, bruh - the capitalists have been in power consistently for a century, there has never been a communist government in american history, they never even got close, and all the actual commies were ran out of the country in the 70's and 80's - unrestrained neoliberal free-market-fundamentalism and nonstop privatization and deregulation at the direction of corporate entities and capital interests has created the world you live in, not "the commies", there are no more commies and they were never in any position of power.
I almost spit my drink when I heard Lindsay saying that "falling from a coconut tree" is a Marxist quote 😂😂😂
23:01 “Canada’s sartorial answer to The Riddler” is actually a perfect description 🤣🤣
Hi! Fun video! Maybe I can help illuminate a bit of the relevant esoteric context. Hegel admits that his philosophy is heavily indebted to who he called "the first German philosopher" who was publicly a Cabalist, Jacob Bohme. Since Hegel's philosophy is likely an appropriation of Jewish Mysticism to some degree, if someone were to, say, present a theory of history that turned Hegel's idealism on its head, the results would likely be just as amenable to esoteric interpretations but 'upside down' as it were. Marx is kinda famous for turning Hegel on his head. So if turning Christian mystical theology upside down might sound "Satanic" to you, you might be able to see where these folks are coming from. I am in no way defending the arguments of Peterson and Lindsay. However, it is wrong to write off any esoteric interpretation of Marx. Given how Marx employs neo-Ricardo economic concepts combined with the Hegelian structure he turns upside down, it would be kinda odd if esoteric principles were not apparent to Hermeticists or Kabbalists.
What weirdos
I would like to point out that it's really fucking weird to be obsessed with an author you've never actually read and neither of them should be taken seriously.

Sufficiently advanced dialetical materialism is indistinguishable from magic.
So it's a marxist versus a Mussolini clone? I choose the marxist because i've read das Kapital and like his clone Mussolini couldn't write.
