    That is nice. Love the transfer unit. Some of the things you were saying about secondary air have just helped me out with my build.
    Thanks Dave.

    In a way this stove reminds me of a common finnish stove for home heating though it is not a rocket stove. Instead of air exchangers, the sides, back and front are filled with heavy concrete slabs that the flue gasses warm up before exiting. That gives a different form of heating, slows down the release of the heat for longer. Don't get rapid heating of a cold workshop like that of course, but easier to keep the temperature consistent in a home that way.

    That's awesome! Really appreciate your videos, simple and clear without all the tech speak and maths.
    Since watching part 2 of this build and trying2hards rocket stoves Ive gone ahead and started ordering some bits for my first attempt. Looking to build a stainless rocket cooker with vortex. I said to myself I wasn't going to get involved in this stuff but hey...you make it look so fun.
    Great video and cant wait for the next instalment.

      Stephen Owens Thanks Stephen, think you will enjoy building the cooker just get the airflow and exhaust flow right and you cant go too far wrong. Cheers.

    Interesting build. Just one point, I think it might be wise to spring load the bolts holding the riser band to allow for the different rates of expansion and contraction. I'd hate to see that casting crack. Cheers.

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  9 лет назад

      James Lamb Cheers James, dont worry the band wont be so tight that it causes damage, it should expand slightly when heated anyway end contract again when cool.

      Madd Macc Thanks Macc, Its a heavy lump for sure will have to guesstimate at 90 lbs for the firebox, 100lbs on the exchanger without the riser ! All the best to you.

      @LozHarrop  9 лет назад +1

      Marcel Lenormand Thanks Marcel, believe me there are plenty of other ideas I would like to incorporate into this stove some of them come to me while I am building and some are planned, I usually just want to get the thing finished then wish I had incorporated them when its finished. ahh well keeps you keen to make another .

    • @MarcelLENORMAND
      @MarcelLENORMAND 9 лет назад

      Hehe. I'm looking forward to you giving the casting a proper burn, particularly to see how insulative it is.

    • @MarcelLENORMAND
      @MarcelLENORMAND 9 лет назад

      What do you think to casting part of the firebox too? Where primary combustion is taking place.

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  9 лет назад +1

      Marcel Lenormand I will be covering front and back of firebox and the sloping sections at the bottom with both firebrick and kiln shelf to protect them and retain heat inside, should be blistering hot in there with the addition of the preheated air, I think alot of gassification will be happening inside this one when up to temp, thats when the sec air will come into play as I slow the burn down.

    • @MarcelLENORMAND
      @MarcelLENORMAND 9 лет назад

      Super!
      This prompts another question which has been bouncing round my head for a while … how do we ensure that it gets enough secondary air for complete combustion? I'm guessing there's no such thing as too much in this regard.

  • @tomdrew5608
    @tomdrew5608 9 лет назад

    Does the vortex make a difference? It looks really cool on video but, does it make the stove work better?
    I like the looks of rocket stoves, and have seen a lot of variations. Mine wold be portable, so I could take it from place to place, and just hook it up to any available chimney or mass heater system.

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  9 лет назад +1

      tom drew It gives a cleaner burn much faster tom and mixes the gasses better inside the riser, especially when you add secondary air. good luck if you go ahead with the build.

    What's your feelings on the internal heat exchange tubes running vertically inside the heat exchanger? Were you able to determine any advantage to distraction in having those there?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  9 лет назад +1

      Pickleballcl They were a bit experimental to see what happened, but they do put out alot of heat being 3 times bigger than the corresponding area on the exchanger I would fit many more were I to build another like this, the air convection inside pumps the heat out.
