Three notes regarding this video and a visit of the Holy Trinity:
- If you plan to visit these passes, try to not do it on a weekend. They can get really crowded. If you pick a weekend go early! I did this trip on a Thursday afternoon in September - that's why the roads are so empty.
- The passes only open in June and mostly close early October (sometimes even September) - due to the high alltitude it can always snow and be pretty cold.
- Flying a drone at Hotel Belvedere is meanhwile prohibited. The shots you see in this video are the only ones that are not from September 2021, but from early 2020 when flying a drone was still allowed (that's why they are so short, my drone flying skills were still not so good back then... ;) )

Perfektes Timing auf dieser Tour.
Diese drei Pässe sind wirklich perfekt. Ich habe mich dort in den 2000er-Jahren immer wieder mit meinen Velos hoch- und runter gekämpft. Rennvelo oder MTB mit Strassenreifen.
MTB letztlich besser wegen dem Gepäck für diese langen Tagestouren (bis 15 Stunden) ab Bern via Thun, Interlaken, Brienz und Innertkirchen über Grimsel, Furka und Oberalp und die Surselva runter bis Tavanasa.
Oder auch mal über den Susten und dann Oberalp und die Surselva runter. Heimfahrt in die andere Richtung. Aber mit der Bahn bis Oberalp Passhöhe und dann Furka und Grimsel.
Immer ein gigantisches Erlebnis.

Lovely, motorcycle toured last year but Furka and Susten for us was in full fog / cloud. Very challenging riding but beautiful when we had a view.

Lovely video. Bringing back many memories for me. Some things have changed across the last 40 years. But not many.
Thank you for sharing. Your video rekindled fond memories of our auto road trip in August 1984. From Interlaken we drove over Grimsel pass, stopped to view St Christoper Chapel; we then went up the Furka pass, stopping to walk into the Rhone glacier which then was much further out, and the Belvedere hotel was still open. From Adermatt we drove up and over Operalp pass and continuing down the upper Rhine valley. Though we did not drive the Susten pass, from your video I agree it seemed the most scenic with groves of pine forests like bonsai gardens, waterfalls, and short tunnels through granite outcrops; my model railroad display that following Christmas looked similar! Danke!

These are breath taking shots, especially the drone footage.
I have some good (and less good) memories of two of these passes, as I never drove the Sustenpas yet.
On the Furka, at the right hand side of your footage near Realp we climbed some of the peaks, joined by two nice Swiss Girls we met and joined us, from there you got a fantastic panorama with the little steam train which runs over the Furka pass in summer looking like a toy train.
On the Grimsel pass om the other hand I encountered the dangers of driving these passes in the dark, I drove on a rock fallen on the street and not seen in time because it was in a corner so not in the headlight beam, luckily it was by car so no nasty fall but a totally ruined tyre which was new on the car for just a week.

Eines der besten YT-Videos das ich gesehen habe. Ganz grosses Kino! Da die 3 Pässe praktisch vor meiner Haustür liegen, kenne ich sie sehr gut und gehe mit Dir einig das der Sstenpass einer der schönsten Pässe ist. Abo und Daume hoch ist natürlich Ehrensache.

Another wonderful video. I said before that we loved our tour of Switzerland. Ours was not the "back roads" but major cities and travels between. We did get to do some paragliding outside of Lucerne and go to Zermatt.
That must have been an awesome experience to paraglide over Switzerland beautiful nature!

Done it. What a fantastic day of riding, but managed to soft drop my bike when I was parking on an angled gravel rest area. You realise how heavy your bike is at that point.
There is something very nostalgic about these passes and I blame Mr. Bond for it 🤩

Nothing, absolutely nothing, has come as close to convincing this rebellious Floridian to get vaccinated (in order to enter Europe) as this spectacular video. The views, the winding roads, the small towns etc…I rode the Alps once and I haven’t been the same since.

Shocked to see the Rhône Glacier now. Last time I was there in 89, you could pay a few francs and walk into a tunnel cut into the ice, where ( oddly) was a guy dressed in a polar bear suit. Very enjoyable video.
Wow that must be really shocking. I visited it the first time a few years ago, so I don’t have such a drastic comparison - but it is so sad how quick our environment changes due to us humans 😔
I visited that tunnel in 1973, when I rode over the Furka pass on a pedal cycle. I don't think I could do that these days.
I like your movie very much. I have been there a few times and liked it also. It is a shame Zwitserland is so crowdy the last times i visited it but the scenery is awesome.
Yes you can’t go there on a weekend in the main season. But during the week it is pretty awesome and as you see in my video not much going on at all!

Yes, rode them all…in a car and also in one day, a few decades ago. Indeed, these passes are beautiful to ride.
I’ve been many times in Switzerland for summer vacation. Coming from a very flat country, I just love mountains. Around Saas Grund is my favorite region. Sion with its castle ruins is near, Lötschental (my favorite valley), Zermatt.
I remember the foot of the Rhône glacier being near the road.
Yes those are definitely beautiful too - I have to make a video about those at one point too (Zermatt I already did, but for skiing)

Those are a spectacular triumvirate of riding gems that if proposed to be constructed today, would probably be rejected. The hotel is a melancholic reminder of the passage of time. Thanks for this nice comment. Yes, everything has its time - it’s a pitty though that such an iconic place is empty now these days. But their season is as well so short and in winter the passes are closed - so I can understand that it economically probably doesn’t make much sense…
