Sir your way of teaching is really very best. I didn't understood the concepts of fluid mechanics in b. tech that's why i m facing lot of problem while doing gate preparation. By looking at your videos now my concepts are cleared. U r very great. I m aeronautical engg student. Sir plz upload the video of aeronautical subjects also. I like your lectures and no one else.

Hello and thank you sir. I recently saw your 75% of podcast and i would like to give you my thanks and respect. As i struggled with this subject for nearly 4 years yesterday after with only watching your videos i was not only able to understand the concept well enough but i rocked my mu university college paper with all happiness. I made my own notes with all understanding from this podcast. Now i'm really motivated to complete the rest just to complete my all concepts about fluid mechanics. Thank you and to your team.

    What Is a Fluid?
You will recall from physics that a substance exists in three primary phases:
solid, liquid, and gas. (At very high temperatures, it also exists as plasma.)
A substance in the liquid or gas phase is referred to as a fluid. Distinction
between a solid and a fluid is made on the basis of the substance’s ability to
resist an applied shear (or tangential) stress that tends to change its shape. A
solid can resist an applied shear stress by deforming, whereas a fluid
deforms continuously under the influence of shear stress, no matter how
small. In solids stress is proportional to strain, but in fluids stress is propor￾tional to strain rate. When a constant shear force is applied, a solid eventu￾ally stops deforming, at some fixed strain angle, whereas a fluid never stops
deforming and approaches a certain rate of strain.
Consider a rectangular rubber block tightly placed between two plates. As
the upper plate is pulled with a force F while the lower plate is held fixed,
the rubber block deforms, as shown in Fig. 1-2. The angle of deformation a
(called the shear strain or angular displacement) increases in proportion to
the applied force F. Assuming there is no slip between the rubber and the
plates, the upper surface of the rubber is displaced by an amount equal to
the displacement of the upper plate while the lower surface remains station￾ary. In equilibrium, the net force acting on the plate in the horizontal direc￾tion must be zero, and thus a force equal and opposite to F must be acting
on the plate. This opposing force that develops at the plate-rubber interface
due to friction is expressed as F ! tA, where t is the shear stress and A is
the contact area between the upper plate and the rubber. When the force is
removed, the rubber returns to its original position. This phenomenon would
also be observed with other solids such as a steel block provided that the
applied force does not exceed the elastic range. If this experiment were
repeated with a fluid (with two large parallel plates placed in a large body
of water, for example), the fluid layer in contact with the upper plate would

hi can you explain this two question:
    1)
The viscous torque produced on a disc rotating in a liquid depends upon the diameter D, the speed of rotation N, the density and the viscosity. The equation taking the form:-
    T=ρ N 2 D 5 φ ( ρ N D 2 μ )
In order to predict the torque on a 1.8 diameter disc rotating in water of density 1000kg/m3 at 129 rev/min a model is built to a scale of 1/4. The model is rotated in oil. Calculate the speed of rotation, in rev/min, for the model to produce dynamic similarity.
The oil density is 785 kg/m3 and the dynamic viscosity of the oil is 4.7 x 10-4Pa.s.
The water dynamic viscosity is 1 x 10-3Pa.s.
    2)
Water flows through a pipe 4cm in diameter and 38m long between two tanks with square edged non projecting entrance and exit. The flow rate is controlled by a gate valve which when fully open has a loss factor of 0.32. What is the height difference between the tanks if the volume flow rate is 3.8 x10-3 m3/s.
    For laminar flow f=16/Re
    For turbulent flow f=0.08/Re0.25
    Density of water, LaTeX:
hoρ, is 1000kg/m3, viscosity of water, LaTeX: \muμ, is 0.001Pa.s.
