Son, War is life changing. If you ever have to serve your country and your in a sticky situation, follow your gut feelings. Don't run in to anything because everybody else is. I'v watched many friends die that way. Be smart use your head, watch were you put your feet, don't touch nothing. heros come home in a box, soldiers come home on their feet. Stay sharp stay alive and be proud of those who have fallen. God Bless you son.
The three guys who recorded this song are now dead. - Hartmut Enke [October 20, 1952 - December 27, 2005] - Klaus Schulze [August 4, 1947 - April 26, 2022] - Manuel Göttsching [September 9, 1952 - December 4, 2022] Rest In Peace, Ash Ra Tempel.
To not only drum like he did here, but to go on to give us some of the greatest electronic albums of all time...MAD respect and props to Klaus Schulze.
thing about bands playing this type of music is, with every song they make you embark on a journey through the place of your own imagination and personality, and it's so great you really want to say it's the greatest band ever for every single song you've heard... electric moon, the machine, colour haze, ash ra, re-stoned, egocentrics... the list goes on and on. i'm happy i discovered this music when i was 17 - mature enough to absorb and understand it's magic.
I was nine at the time and was soon to discover Klaus Schultz and Tangerine Dream but never this group oddly! How many nine year old kids listen to such wonderful stuff these days? I still love this music all these years later!!
This is the best comment I have ever seen on RUclips. Really gave the song so much more value to me, being born in 1988. Transported me back in time... amazing story.
1971....so many amazing krautrock albums that year, CAN's Tago Mago, Tangerine Dream's Zeit, Cluster's 71, Birth Control's Operation and of course Ash Ra Tempel self titled album.
I was nineteen years old when I was in the war in 1972. One of the guys in my platoon had this song on 8 track tape. while walking through the elephant grass. We came up on a burnt out tank (ours) got in. got comfortable, dropped acid. (brown acid)some where during the night we were over come. The only memory I have of that night, is this song playing its violent guitar solo. And fighting this enemy solder with my fingers and teeth I woke up during dawn, and guy was ripped in pieces next to me.
My favorite Ash Ra piece, right out of the gate on the first side of their first album. I love how atmospheric, majestic and suggestive this is (I hear nature in its various moods, from ice storms and crashing trees to feeding frenzies in the water etc.) while still rocking out hard with drums and distortion. I could never get into the spacier, less connected Tang Dream. This is mental music, but very visceral as well.
even though i wont be able to fight(due to disabilities) i promise to help our vets and wounded overcome the nightmares of war. my uncle has PTSD from his last 2 tours in Afghanistan. its sad to see that alot of folks no longer thank our servicemen or even honor our fallen, yet there are very few who seem to appreciate the sacrifices done for this country, and i'm one of them. thank you.
The first time I hear Ashra Tempel!!And what a masterpiece!! The intensity of this track let me think on the intensity of The Doors, my favourite band of all times!
I started getting into more experimental music when I was 17 too. Bands like, early Sonic Youth (Confusion is Sex and Bad Moon Rising), S.P.K., Swans etc. Then I started finding all sorts of Kraut rock, experimental electronic, industrial, basically any kind of crazy music I could get my hands on to.
one of Fritz shadow cloaked transcendental happeners....this is the place for my ears to bow low cathedral bound - I shall listen to the follow up album
on behalf of everyone who didn't fight in that war because of class, race or privilege: I appologise for what you had to go through. on the other hand, acid's one heck of a drug to take on a battlefield-- a truly unique experience in history.
I don't necessarily think you NEED drugs to enjoy Ash Ra Tempel, but you can't deny that when it comes to krautrock and other experimental genres, psychedelics like LSD sure kick the music up a notch. Either way, it's the magic of the music that's the most important, everyone has their own way of experiencing/perceiving the sounds
+broiler33 boiler33 hahah, I love those characters in that name ,they look pretty kraut rock-ish to me ... what country is that (sorry about the ignorance)?
I wouldn't know either. I'm sure that a whole country shouldn't be suffering the consequences of the actions of an extremist group. I'm sorry to hear about what happened on Italy. I think that the western world shouldn't have messed with the Middle East in the first place and I realize that the common people suffer in consequence of the actions of the powerful ones in both sides of the fire line. Soldiers and civilians are simple pawns in a chess match.
:-) Viel Dope damals in Deutschlands Stuben.
This is fucking breathtaking... Compare it to anything in the last 30 years? Absolutely fucking unbeatable. I was born almost 10 years after this came out and I'm seriously gobsmacked at how amazing this tune is. The absolute pinnacle. 15 mins in, holy mother of God... Show me! Whoa fucking mumma!

Rest In Peace, Ash Ra Tempel.
Pero su música, nunca morirá...
as edgar froese said, they aren't dead, just changed their cosmic addresses
Not to forget producer Conny Plank (3 May 1940 - 5 December 1987) whose input was significant I suspect.

I was nine at the time and was soon to discover Klaus Schultz and Tangerine Dream but never this group oddly! How many nine year old kids listen to such wonderful stuff these days? I still love this music all these years later!!

+Village Global "Zeit" is from 1972, but "Alpha Centauri", TD's '71-Album is still great too, I think.
I stand corrected, and indeed Alpha Centauri is a great album. I especially love the flute parts it gives texture to the electronics in a unique way.
O.K. which ine would you consider as the best ?
Don’t forget Faust’s self titled album.
And the masterful "In den Gärten Pharaos" by Popol Vuh
Just stumbled onto this while listening to CAN. So happy.

Hey I read this comment years ago I’m back
I want this to be true so badly. Are you still here Mr Pete?
My favorite Ash Ra piece, right out of the gate on the first side of their first album.
Awesome music! I've never heard of this group.
Jason Carpp Have you heard of Baby Grand Mother or Parsons Sound.

Still blows me away every time! so psychedelic, so gloomy, but delivered with a Stooges- like proto punk power
genijalna fantazija do groba
Its almost like a song of discovery, it gives me the feeling like I am coasting on the winds through a desert.
The first time I hear Ashra Tempel!!And what a masterpiece!! The intensity of this track let me think on the intensity of The Doors, my favourite band of all times!

R.I.P. Klaus
Ash Ra Tempel recorded a fine album featuring Timothy Leary on vocals 'Right hand lover'. Kinda auspicious that he chose Ash Ra Tempel
The best of kosmische and german avant garde
What if Jimmy gonna experimental if he be still alive at 1971!, I think Göttsching go this far out and beyond!

Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant!
Klaus Schulze inventing the blastbeat 15 years before Mick Harris.
Mooi!
You also dont need to listen to it. But you can anyway if you enjoy it. and you can do it on drugs if you enjoy it even more that way.
Drugs give that extra little edge... Always.
I wouldn't know either. I'm sure that a whole country shouldn't be suffering the consequences of the actions of an extremist group.

For all the people who like this ; check out Ohr record label.
Great fucking album
TOP!!
listened to this while trying to fall asleep at the end of an LSD trip, very intense stuff
Würde ja auch nicht unbedingt nüchtern aufgenommen......
Oh god, how intense does it get after 15:00? That little Hendrix-like really rocks!
