from what you have told me went to reassure me that I was right the seller was wrong , still the small birds that I have got I will mould into my own breed. all I have to do now is find some that has pure bred birds of both strains pilot and hughes. thank you again.
+David Shorney Hi David, as for George Pilot strain the only colours I know of is blue, they don't come in reds or blacks. For the Gordon Hughes strain, Gordon created this with 20 years of inbreeding and he started this with 2 cocks and 1 hen, the two cocks were half brothers and one was blue and the other was grey, the hen was a blue. So the only colours Gordon had were greys and blues, but you can also get blue bar badges in the Hughes strain. Any thing that has red or black in the Hughes type will be crossed to achieve this. Hope this helps
Usually if they have a habit of doing this then they are spoilt for flying. Put them in the breeding loft and breed off them and fly the young. Start the training again with discipline. Avoid feeding too much on the roof top when settling. The roof top of the loft is only for a short while when trapping.
Yes correct, you want to lay your stock birds as your foundation, and start breeding from them to achieve got quality young. I do occasionally have some for sale, but non at the moment
thank you .the reason I have asked is because I have purchased 2 pair of pilots which consists of 3 blues and 1 black. the pair of blues have produced 2 lovely small blue young which look every inch pilots but then they have produced a small self red, the pair made up of self black cock and self blue hen (looks every inch a pilot ) produced a self blue. I would not mind but I payed good money for pilot breed pigeons. The reason I asked about hughes was because I have a lovely small self black cock which used to belong to Mr k. pots and I know at one time he had hughes and was just trying to find out what breed it might have been as it was so small. thanks to all that replied all further help will be gratefully received.

I can assure you there are no reds or blacks in either strains, if they are producing reds then they must have had something added in to them.
