I left Gonaives 9 years ago, spent 15 years there, from birth till I was 15. Man I’m feeling Cap Haitien. I’m planning on moving back home but to Cap Haïtien
@@gp-footy9319 Oh yeah? Man, I am thinking about the same thing: moving o Cap-Haitian in few months or next year if possible. Here in Gonaives I like it because I grew up here, and its insecurity is at the lowest and is the # reason for anyone to live in Gonaives during this time if you are in Haiti. I feel safe in Gonaives almost at all time whether s day or night time, bu sometimes I just want to live a bit more happy and have some new fun. However, Gonaives lacking a lot of things when it comes to living happily. Example, social night life almost doesn’t exist in Gonaives anymore . especially, when it’s 7:40 going to 8 PM downtown Gonaives is almost empty and, if you are out there in some streets, you might find yourself is the only person walking in the streets with only the sound of the dogs backing.
I’m in my early 20s and I’ve experienced and still experiencing the American life. I understand American’ system and believe me it’s as corrupted as Haiti, probably worst but since we’re from this hopelessness we have no choice but to accept what we have here in America. I’m not gonna get too deep because I could write a whole book about it. All I know is they do not want us to go back home they make sure we can’t. Provèb la di w kote w kaka a se pa law manje. The plan is to create ways of income here and go live home. I know it sounds crazy and of course the insecurity but let me tell you something, we all gonna go someday. There’s no question about it! But while I’m still alive I wanna live not only surviving. These rich people we slave for for a weekly paycheck are living we are not! And I refuse to go down the same path my people went through because God has blessed me to see the trap they set for us and I’ll die before I get caught up in that trap.
Say what you want to say - but this is one peaceful area, everyone just calm - and making the best of what they have and minding their own business, going about their way.
I just saw this video today. I work in the travel industry. I'm impressed! I've always wanted to travel to Haiti despite all negative publicity. This video gave me a detailed on the ground situation. its not as bad as the western media makes it out to be..Thank you brother Philly for this.
A mi me gustaría visitar esa ciudad y recorrer esas calles. Ver y conocer gente de ahí. Considero que el suelo de esa ciudad es muy bueno. Pero no se si ahí se sientan los sismos como en Puerto Príncipe.

Looking back we have so many fond memories of Haiti but what is going on in Haiti now is nauseous. However, not everyone thinks Haiti is Hell and that sentiment would not just be limited to Graham Greene were he alive. Of course, Graham was one of the great writers of the 20th Century. One other ex-spook used to love Haiti until the TonTon Macoute hunted him down like a wild animal. If you relish and yearn for Haitian spy thrillers as curiously and bizarrely compelling as Graham Greene’s Comedians, yearn for the cruel stability of the Duvaliers and have frequented Hôtel Oloffson you're never going to put down Bill Fairclough's fact based spy thriller Beyond Enkription in The Burlington Files series. It's a raw noir thriller but it is so real you may have nightmares of being back in Port au Prince anguishing over being a spy on the run. The trouble is, if you were a spook being chased by the TonTon Macoute in the seventies you were usually cornered and ... well best leave it to your imagination or simply read Beyond Enkription. It’s considered compulsory reading for espionage aficionados. See theburlingtonfiles.org and if you have any questions remember the best quote from The Burlington Files to date is "Don't ask me, I'm British" but do read The Comedians first if you have not done so recently.
