To anybody who still doubts that kick going over, this morning I watched an Instagram story of the fans at the game. He recorded the moment Libbok kicked the ball. He was sitting more towards the left and as the ball went flying towards the post it past through the post and very close to the right pole from Libbok pov. So yes it went over and shows why different angles do matter in moments like this.
I saw it live... the first Ulster try was hugely forward... The players were more running sideways than towards the line at the time, so 'forward drift' is not a valid argument. The crowd went balistic. I was messaging mates to find out if they were using a TMO in this match after the try was awarded. After a call like that, the TMO deserves pasture more than training.
Greg makes one think cant officials of a match not be replaced hey.... Poor players must give off their best to stay on the field. So it should be for match officials as well LOL Just a thought my friend LOL

People make mistakes and that is fine but for a TMO to not see such a obvious forward pass is totally incompetent or dishonest. It is a real concern, if this is ignored it will set a precedent for future games. I hope this obvious mistake will be addressed, if not then why have the TMO? That call made a mockery for of the whole TMO system. It was also really irritating to hear the commentators on DSTV SuperSport not questioning the TMO's call. What world are we living in if a commentator may not or don't want to say what he and the whole world saw with their eyes? It is time these SuperSport commentators grow a pair. The Irish commentors didn't hold back, they called that decision bad which it was. If you are now going to start letting obvious mistakes just slide then where do we draw the line? Really pathetic. I hope there is action taking about this, if not then please just get rid of the TMO because the whole point of the TMO was to get rid of such obvious mistakes.
@@gabrielmkhonza7195 The TMO didn't see a very obvious forward pass? The whole point behind the TMO system is to prevent these obvious mistakes. If the TMO can't stop obvious mistakes from happening why then have a TMO that takes up so much time? Scrap them and we can speed up the game? This guy was either totally incompetent or being dishonest, the reason he made this call must be found so that it can be addressed and prevented. If this guy just walks, it will set a precedent for future TMO's in semi finals and finals of let's say world cups? Will that be OK? The fact that the Stormers won is not a reason to ignore total incompetence or dishonesty by the TMO. These obvious mistakes should not be happening.

@@ssvoogel yeah so easy, such an easy thing to tell. sure, so easy. man, i think the saffers might be thicker than the kiwis, and that's saying something.
Both Ulster tries were preceded by forward passes. The lines on the field make it clear that the receiver got the ball well ahead of the person who passed it. Just glad this did not affect the result at the end of it all. Not a Stormers fan at all but glad they won that game.
TMO watched the first one and said it was okay, therefore it was okay. There is a video on the official World Rugby RUclips channel that has been there for over 10 years and specifically shows that it does not matter where it was caught, only how it was thrown; please go watch the video. PS I am a Stormers fan.
To be overruled the hand motion has to be shown to be clearly fwd. So yes, it probably was even passed fwd, but the odd mistake like this is so much better than the old ruling of "if it goes fwd" which led to so many stoppages and disincentives playing
I joked before the weekend and said I was looking forward to a Stormers vs Bulls final... the Universe seemingly took me seriously! JAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! 🇿🇦
They had to get help from somewhere because 15 vs 15 they are no match for the Stormers. The commentators should realise that there are 2 teams playing with equal chances but destiny had other plans.
I had no idea about that, but it's good to know our teams are appreciated unlike what happened to them at Super Rugby. Northern hemisphere teams are really competitive, great fighters 👍
That’s just not true, they should never of been involved as they are in the Southern Hemisphere and shouldn’t of even acknowledged being put into the pro 14. We now also have changed it completely into the “URC”
End of the day it's a all South African final in our first year of this tournament so gratz and REALLY STUFF THE SCOTTISH REF, He tried his best for a Ulster win.
Relax. He had a fair game. Stormers made a lot of poor decisions at times - unlike the Bulls lastnight. Lets not resort to blaming the ref, it just makes us look like ungracious idiot supporters tbh
Congrats South Africa on winning the competition. Makes for a much better competition now. Good show Ulster too. My crew just faded away this season but hopefully with a new coaching team in place Munster might revive themselves next season.

@@fomofud9479 Yep. Ye'll be even better next year so the bar goes up for the Northern teams too. It's been a Leinster gimme now for a few seasons so a shake up was due. A quick question for you. I know "covid" has restricted crowds in SA but do you think when normality returns there will be a good pick up attendance wise ? I keep an eye on the Super 12's (??), highlights, and the crowds seem very poor these days.
@@gregbradley7482 Cape Town has historically had the best crowds but across all stadia (local and ANZAC) it was declining a bit in SR the last few years before COVID. I think with URC and Champ Cup it will pick up again. Unless the Lions do really well their crowd will always be smallish because Ellis Park is in a really dangerous area and the stadium itself is 65k so it looks bad quite easily.
The thing that annoyed me about Mike Adamson was his over-involvement of the game. It was clear from the start that both teams were faring well in the scrums, but he just had to get in the middle and scrutinize everything. Why? He didn't allow the game to flow, which frankly hampered both teams. The URC does have a few decent refs, but he ain't it.

Northern hemisphere teams will really be looking around and to themselves and saying, what just happened??? They came from “way down there” and beat us in their first season!! Even at 14, they managed to pull through and exert their power. Can’t wait to see Evan Roos in green&gold, and Herschel Jantjies is finally starting to look like himself again. On to the finals. It’s pretty open imho, two proper teams are going to have an epic arm wrestle.
Thanks mate, I agree 100%. ASAP Stormers fan I'm rely happy with how we played. Even at home, beating this Bulls team will not be an easy task. Ulster were very unlucky to lose that game but full credit to the Stormers.
Bad officiating against the Stormers. Multiple forward passes by Ulster. Many skew lineouts from Ulster. Many professional fowls at rucks and in the strike zone when Stormers was attacking. Ref was bad. Even a penalty try he awards then walks back and changes his mind. Think he thought wait wait. Penalty try makes the conversion by default. Maybe giving a try the Stormers might miss the conversion. This 2 points might be the winning or losing margin. Glad that the team that wanted to play positive rugby won in the end. Winning Stormers try in the end. Ulster player knees Galant in the ribs. Negative players. Negative rugby. They really didn't want an all RSA final for a Europe competition. Although, the Stormers will have to pull up their socks for the next match. Great players. Great team. You can see these guys really connect with one another. You can see the genuineness, friendship and comradi.
Stfu lol typical salty south african the officiating was shit for both sides and i dont see you mentioning that the last time ulster played you nobs it was a south african tmo that gave a dodgy call. calling a penalty try, then turning around and calling a try without seeing the ball being grounded was such a big red flag as far as refereeing integrity goes... the next 80 minutes were no different. hope this guy is relegated to high school matches after this abysmal performance
The referee called the penalty try because he didn't see the grounding - so he began to move to penalty try. I believe that then he got the call in from the AR that the ball was grounded and a try was scored. At that point, he learned that the foul play by Ulster did not prevent a try, so he should not award a penalty try. Looked strange, but it was the right call according to the laws. No comment on the rest of the match, just that one strange looking, but correct, call.

Stormers you guys were giving me heart palpitations throughout the game. Made some poor decisions and errors at key moments in the game. But we showed grit and character and pulled it off at the end - champions mentality. Looking forward to the old SA North Vs South rivalry next weekend, going to be a cracking game. Come on Stormers! One thing that needs to be said is the officiating in this game was terrible. Ref was inconsistent and made poor decisions for BOTH SIDES. Refs need to be reviewed and be held accountable, that’s just my opinion. Otherwise loving the URC and cannot wait for next season!
What a great tournament. I love the northern boys crowds. Absolutely no regret we left superugby. When we play over there it feels like test rugby. Wales need to stop whining and improve. Lets make this the best comp in the world
Awesome match, awesome finish. Saffa teams could barely buy a championship in Super Rugby (won it three times out of 24 seasons), yet here we are with two of them in the final of the URC.
I think super rugby as it was, definitely was the tougher competition. I would like to have seen the results of a more equitable travel schedule in super rugby for our sides, but understand why it was not possible given the geography of the tournament. Pity they kept trying to expand it at the expense of the quality of rugby.
@@Narapoia1 yeah. And I totally understand why the SA teams went north. Makes so much more sense in terms of scheduling. I wonder how long until the Springboks leave the Rugby Championship.
@@bigbenlorax I think that will be a tougher move to make. There is only really the 6 nations as an alternative comp but they seem pretty clear in not wanting The Boks involved, and to be honest I think SH rugby needs the rugby championship. It's clearly helped in maintaining the dominance of the countries involved. Will be interesting to see how it plays out - whether money wins in the end.
@@Narapoia1 yeah if they do leave it'll be a massive loss for the ABs especially. I reckon there is a good amount of desire behind the scenes though for the Saffas to replace Italy, but no one is prepared to come out publicly. Huge commercial benefits. Maybe part of not wanting em in there is the fact that SA would win as many 6 Nations titles as the rest of em combined 😎
Rugby is East - West, not North - South hemisphere. I would love to see SA leave TRC, the Springboks and ABs could then play regular 3 test series in July. TRC: NZ, Aus, Arg, plus the annual winner of a 2 week Japan, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa playoff series.
What a crackin semi final. Toxic fans will bitch and moan about refereeing decisions. They'll laugh at losing sides. But for people who actually like rugby, this was a belter.
The refereeing was diabolical though. At least it was consistently terrible, neither side really getting the rub of the green, but boy oh boy. Numerous forward passes (the first Ulster try and perhaps Roos’s), players on both sides interfering with the ball on the ground (Warwick(?) and Jantjies), line-outs that were so crooked that three different commentary teams all mentioned them, etc. Absolutely loving this tournament, but they really need to sort this out for next year.
@@vipiccb6896 And now we’re the only ones in it. How does that feel? And for the record, I’m only “toxic” to you - it’s plain as day to everyone here that you deserve it.
Just look down the comments and you will see who the toxic one is. It was a great game on the edge of my seat for 85min. Poor calls from the ref for both sides and missed opportunities from both sides. This tournament will only get better with the SA side. Safe travels home Ulster

Both finals next week in the Southern Hemisphere. Would be nice if we could see a challenge match between the two grand final winners of the URC and Super Rugby
Nah Super Rugby let their feelings be known early on they’ve made their bed now let them lie in it. SA should just concern themselves with European rugby now and develop through it and learn from it. SAs gain SRs loss.
Agree, very comfortable with the bed, especially as we start bringing in SA and Argentine players back into the Super Pacific teams. Super Rugby plus the Pacific Is and eventually Japan. See you later SA, no hard feelings and definitely no looking back from over here. Cheers.
That would be an awesome game. Was talking to my brother in law about super rugby teams joining the Heineken cup the just pre game kick off the Stormers and Ulster
Argentina have lost out big time because of this shift. They now have no pro club/provincial presence in either hemisphere. It’s a great shame because Super Rugby had given them a platform to really develop and it was bearing fruit. Hopefully they’ll be able to field a team in the URC at some point as the time zones of Europe are more aligned to those of South America than they are to Australasia.
Blatant forward pass Ulster, how can you review that and say it came out of the hand flat? 2 SAF teams were not mean to be in the final. REF was inexplicable. Anyway should not have been so close well done Stormers for weathering a lot there.
If the conversion at the end was not made and the end result was 15 each, would they have played Extra time or would they have gone with another way to determine the result, like log points or something?
I know it seems like the ref was blowing shit for the Stormers. Which he 100% was. But he also did Ulster dirty in some calls. I’m all round just shocked at the officiating. As much as the ref tried to be the star these two teams made a low scoring game one of the best live games I’ve ever seen! A proper arm wrestle, desperate defence and pure heart carries. What is the points difference between the kick and a try? In the end it was some Great rugby!

@@bernardbooysen2072 It's water under the bridge, let's not dwell on it. Let's just celebrate and look forward to an epic final btwn the Stormers and the Bulls. It's 2007 for the Bulls.
No it wasn’t forward otherwise the TMO would have picked it up .
And don't forget the Proteas' epic T20 win in Delhi.
Who needs Eskom when Saffa sport is high voltage, charged, brilliance?
The kick went high over (but inside ) the upright. When it came down wide it was already over the crossbar.

PS I am a Stormers fan.
the lines are not used by refs, check the rules
To be overruled the hand motion has to be shown to be clearly fwd.
So yes, it probably was even passed fwd, but the odd mistake like this is so much better than the old ruling of "if it goes fwd" which led to so many stoppages and disincentives playing
Backwards von die hande

They had to get help from somewhere because 15 vs 15 they are no match for the Stormers. The commentators should realise that there are 2 teams playing with equal chances but destiny had other plans.
Agreed, definitely forward.
If the TMO said it wasn't forward he was as drunk as I was

Be no exaggeration to say the inclusion of the best SA teams has saved this competition - it was literally dying on its feet a year ago!
I had no idea about that, but it's good to know our teams are appreciated unlike what happened to them at Super Rugby. Northern hemisphere teams are really competitive, great fighters 👍
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say so.
That’s just not true, they should never of been involved as they are in the Southern Hemisphere and shouldn’t of even acknowledged being put into the pro 14. We now also have changed it completely into the “URC”

What a photo finish indeed, well done Stormers for hanging in there and making it a South African derby final.

These SA teams came, saw and really conquered the URC!
The fact that these SA teams are in this competition only adds incredible value to the URC. Northern hemisphere teams will really be looking around and to themselves and saying, what just happened???
They came from “way down there” and beat us in their first season!!
Safe to say the SA teams really almost dominated the URC, and may continue to do so in the coming seasons.
Next up, they will be facing English and French opposition. Really looking forward to that!

But congratulations to the Stormers. Even at 14, they managed to pull through and exert their power. Can’t wait to see Evan Roos in green&gold, and Herschel Jantjies is finally starting to look like himself again.

the referring was of poor standard though. But it was nice game after all
Bad officiating against the Stormers.

For me the close scores of this weekend two games shows that these 4 teams are all deserving semi finalist.
Leinster were well beaten by the Bulls (at home). Their last consolation try creates the wrong impression of a close match
Was at this game. So crazy
That forward pass for Ulster was ridiculous 😂
Two forward passes both leading to tries.
As was the deliberate try preventing knock-on by the Stormers in the previous match between these two 😂
Adamson needs to stop refereeing right now, he has ruined the game for both sides
Leinster fan who will Cheer for the Bulls next weeks, their Victory was really earned
I like it. Chaotic neutral, equally loose interpretations for both side. Great to watch as a neutral.
are you referring to the red card?
Ahh, a man of culture! Well said good sir.
calling a penalty try, then turning around and calling a try without seeing the ball being grounded was such a big red flag as far as refereeing integrity goes... the next 80 minutes were no different. hope this guy is relegated to high school matches after this abysmal performance
Exactly. See our comments as well. That was very suspect. Bad officiating. Both semi finals.
@@josephsweeney4219 That AR must have x-ray vision to see from that angle, because even from the replay it was not obvious. Not enough use of the TMO at the end of the day, except for that red card that was a yellow at worst
@@shackletonsteward7401 I would rather have the try correctly awarded to JJ Kotze and have to kick the conversion, than have the try awarded to the referee with no conversion necessary. How would Kotze have felt if his try in the semi final of his inaugural URC season and in front of a home crowd, was removed from him and given *against* the opposition?
The referee was told by the AR that a clear grounding had been seen and awarded the try to the player; Kotze now goes into the history books for his part in the victory and everyone is happy. Except you....

On the behalf of All South Africans. That the URC has allowed for Rugby to be played at a similar timezone. Looks like moving North was a good idea
What a crackin semi final. Toxic fans will bitch and moan about refereeing decisions. They'll laugh at losing sides. But for people who actually like rugby, this was a belter.
I agree, I just do not understand why the fans need to be this toxic even if they win or lose
