This is excellent Serge. A complex set of procedures all covered clearly within 6 minutes! No padding. No rushing. Just good, clear training. Superb! Thank you.
This is the third video. I’ve watched on this subject and your explanation by far has been the best. My concern was not filling up the hard drive on my laptop while producing quality videos and your explanation has clarified for me how to do that thank you very much.
You converted me ! The best and to the point explanation I ever got on Proxy Libs. I've been editing on FCP since v1.0 and never tried proxies. Too afraid that quality would be too bad. Always wanted to see optimised files but how slow ... on a MacBook Pro 2018. You will be saving my holidays edits ! Thanks a lot !
Hey bro hope you are well. Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for the last few weeks we have been in Bulgaria filming and getting ready for Turkey next week. But always great to catch up and see what you have been up to. Your wisdom and knowledge always helps. Thanks once again bro and catch up again real soon God bless.
Awesome video and explanation! I'm new to proxy and still have had some trouble getting an understanding on what it is/how to work with it/pros & cons and your video made it really easy to follow 🙌Thank you
WOW! Thank you Serge. I’ve been trying to find a way to edit without performance and effects being influenced. I edited from my external all the time and I couldn’t carry on editing with all the delays. Good hardware. M1 pro, 16 ram and 16core GPU. I thought this is impossible. Going to re-do my project right now using your step-by-step guide. Thanks a lot Serge.
Absolutely love your channel get the every notification whenever you upload. I have a question for you. 1. Can i edit from a SSD external drive in proxy only. It has all my footage on it 2. is there a way also with this setup that I can edit from my iMac and MacBook Pro using my external drive. I would love to edit between my iMac and my MacBook Pro while using my external SSD I'd love to work between both of my computers in proxy. Is this possible
Good morning, congratulations on the channel, I'm really enjoying watching your videos and I'm learning a lot, yesterday I bought a plugin with your code, you know if there is a plugin that changes the sky, I do a lot of images with drone, thanks, best regards .
Serge you’re a beast. I always click “create proxy media” when I import off my card but don’t do any of the other steps. I also don’t change anything before I export. Does this mean I’m really not doing anything?
Been following for a while. Great content. I have a tricky question for you regarding proxy files. Recently I started noticing that if I stabilize a clip and switch back and forth between optimized and proxy options….as soon as I do that I can clearly see a change in the size of the video and also the clip will look smoother stabilization in proxy rather than optimized. Can you assist?
As usual, a very nice tutorial. I use this method already and hope it will help new users to speed up their editing on the go. Serg, are you planning to make a vaideo about exporting settings? There are tons of videos on YT about this, but would be nice to see which settings do you prefer to export video for youtube, etc.
Thanks Serge for an awesome tutorial as always, I have seen couple of other videos as well, your way seems pretty good to me, but there is one problem, I always make new library for all my projects and import all media and everything in that, when i finish up with that project i delete all generated files and keep that library for future need, but in this case all my original media will stay out of my library, in that case how ill save my library, every-time when ill open this project ill have to route FCPX to my media location is that so?
Hi Serge, two questions: for the final video editing (for example to place a LUT over the video)m should we already use the Original/optimize media ? and to make some mask transitions, is it still ok to work with proxy media (are you working with lower frames)?
Thanks! This is exactly what I want to do, but watching other videos it had me creating two Libraries, one on the external drive and then a proxy version on my laptop, which then had to reconnect after all my edits were finished. I like your method better, I’m always using my laptop for all my edits, at home or traveling. I also find I’m using photos or videos from my Photo app, which then stays in my Library. So one Library on my laptop sounds more efficient. I can then copy the Library to my external drive when archiving. By the way, did you say “diks drive”? Thanks again!
THANKS AGAIN SERGE, very good. Still I have a question: you are talking about 6 files that, even in proxy mode, still use 1.9 G of your PC hard drive. If we are taking about 500 files with 128G (my vacations from a Gopro ), the space in my Mac internal hard drive will be massive, correct ? In this case , is it better to leave your proxy files also in an external drive? thanks

Yup. I'm editing a big 4k project on a 2015 Macbook right now. This works well.

I'm a beginner. I was looking for a long time today how to organize a workflow. Only after your movie do I know. Thank you very much!

This is really a great video. Common issues of laptop users. Really helpful! :)
Another great tip. I have started using proxies. Thanks
Thanx a lot, it was the video I was looking for. 😀👍
This is an awesome video! Exactly what I needed!

Thanks, great piece of advise. Do you do the color correction and grading after export or can you do it with the proxy please?
Always helpful! Thank you, Serge! 😀
Amazing Video, so helpful! Gracias!!
Really great Serge... thank you!
Would there be any major differences if I wanted to import from another library rather than directly from the footage on an external drive?
Thanks Serge.

Hey Serge if we shoot at h.264 then creating a Proxy would be pointless? Let me know your thoughts and I appreciate your help.
Great video.
Thanks
Hi Serge - Where did you find the FCP X logo you used in your thumbnail?
thank you 👍
Thank U Srege

I assume that one day Apple etc will do more elegant/official ways of doing this what with video resolutions increasing all the time
Grazie Serge, Bravo :-)
