Prost stayed 15 years at number 1 position and 15 more years at number 2, with 16 races seasons in the 80s, compared to today's 21 races seasons...It's a testimony to his greatness. The fact that Barrichello, Coulthard or Bottas are higher than Piquet or Mansell shows the bias...It should be proportionate to the number of grand prix raced by the pilot.
How many wins did his buddy Balestere help him with? And by the way, why was he so upset when the Honda engineers were sending Sennas engines with his name on the shipping crates, but not prost's??
@@georgesingh5714 Yes. The slow professor needed lots of help from Ballestre and did get it. The fuel limitation rule was the biggest factor that slowed the fastest drivers down to Prosts level. You have to appreciate Prost, that's pretty incredible for that period in time. Also it's interesting seeing Schumacher between Vettel and Hamilton. Michael Schumacher sitting at P1 at number of podiums for 18 years is insane given that he almost didnt got any podiums after 2006 (he drove from 2010-2012 for merc, but merc was just a midfield team back then)
Fernando Alonso until 2014 = 97 podiums Fernando Alonso since then = 9 podiums (he has been driving tractors for a decade...) Lewis can get the record of 200 podiums... I think he needs 3 more podiums... Go Fernando, go Lewis... still the greatest from the XXI century, alongside Michael Schumacher
Bottas is tantalizing close to become the driver with most podiums without winning a single championship. BTW, it is funny (and logical) that the top three under this classification are the most famous wingman of the last decades: Barrichello, Bottas, Coulthard (and Berger)
Fangio and Prost stand out as the best ever, even with a biased approach. I guess Schumacher and Hamilton would also prevail in a balanced approach. Funny enough, they each held the record of GP victories for a little while, along with Clark and Stewart.
Hats off to Fangio who was the original legend. The 3 greatest are Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton. Senna was a genius at driving. Schumacher was a beast with discipline. Hamilton was tenacious and efficient.
Wouldn't have thought at the time of his retirement that Carlos Reutimann would hold the record for most podiums. You'd think Lauda or Stewart perhaps.

It's a real shame seeing great drivers such as Reutemann, Coulthard and Moss never became champions, given how successful they were.

Podiums needs to be compared with races per season. The first six F1 seasons in the 1950s had fewer total races since the start of 2020.
Luigi fagioli 1950-1951
Juan Manuel Fangio 1951-1952
Nino Farina 1952
Alberto Ascari 1952-1954
Juan Manuel Fangio 1954-1969
Graham Hill 1969-1973
Jackie Stewart 1973-1981
Carlos Reutemann 1981-1984
Niki Lauda 1984-1987
Alain Prost 1987-2002
Michael Schumacher 2002-2020
Lewis Hamilton 2020-????
Not fair. There are more races today than earlier.
Yeah and car manufacturers now are dominating if they put millions enough.....
And before big money got into F1, it was a _gentlemen's sport_ with the likes of Graham Hill being a prime example.
