I know this sounds very weird and will be for a lot of golfers but I intend to drop my shots per round and my handicap by not going for the GIR. I usually play 96 to 100. So to ease the pressure I will for instance on a par 4 only put the ball on the green on my 3rd shot. Ease the pressure a bit. Play smarter not harder. Also bu doing good practice routines to create comfortable club shots.
If breaking 90 is your goal (bogey golf), and you feel confident on the greens, 3 on for a par 4 is technically a GIR for your playing of that hole. It’s a great strategy, and will help you eliminate those doubles (or triples). Pacing yourself is important.

I've shaved my HC from 6.5 to 4.5 in 3 months by learning to hit 'half' shots with every club. Choking down and making a committed swing takes around 7 to 10m off every club meaning I'm hardly ever between clubs anymore. Hitting more GIR and consistently getting in better scoring positions. Love from SA, boyfriends 🇿🇦
I was in AZ around the same time as these guys. Had the Marshall at McDowell Mountain tell us on 6 that the group in front of us was slow and had 2 open holes in front of us. We got a hot dog at the turn, which created a gap between us, leading the Marshal to yell at us on 11 that we had 2 holes between us and the next group and we had to speed up. We caught the group within 1 hole. Same Marshall then tells us on 16 that our pace has just been fantastic all day and he really appreciated it. Freaking psycho
My worst marshall story. I'm playing at a muni near the downtown of my city. We start with many holes open in front of us. The marshall is also the starter (?wtf) and he sees this. Yet by hole 8 he tells me to speed up. I'm playing with my brother and im like 3 under, and though my brother isn't the fastest golfer we are only a 2some and making good pace. I nearly told him to f*ck off. infuriating
Played yesterday First 9 holes 1 Hour 10 minutes Second 9 Holes 2 Hour 45 minutes Difference was I had no one holding me up on the front 9 On the Back 9 we had 2 or 3 groups on the tee each hole
I plan to lower my handicap this year by removing the ego from my game and remind myself to play the easy, comfortable shot. Who cares how far I carry a PW?! This may be an old concept for the OGs, but I'm a relatively new convert to the way of the playa. Going back through the archives on this channel has been a real lightbulb moment for me. Thanks Matt!
The 9th hole validates the “shots shaved” concept. 115 yards with the ball on a tee peg and only one playa puts it on the green. Your vlogs are getting me through a tough time, many thanks!
I am going to play a lot of rounds this year, after a year with maximum 20 rounds of golf. I have set a goal for myself; to play a round a week (52 rounds). I will strenghten my shortgame, and especially my putting-game, due to I have never ever been draining many of those. In previous years, my thoughts of the 'perfect' golfswing has meant a lot to me, and little details in the swing has often been trained or experienced, which can be a nice thing, but for me it took over. I rather play nine holes of golf than spending an hour or two at the range just hitting full shots this year. My goal is to reach hcp. 5 at the end of the season, comming into it at 8.5. Anyway; thanks for a lot of nice content. Really enjoy your way of handling with this sport, and I have learned a lot and adapted many of your mental aspect, which is also useful in my daily life. Thank you, Matt.
I'm going to drop my handicap by planting more feathers, planting feather growing birdies! More birdies will cover some of the bogeys, and NEVER give up!

Dropping my handicap by moving to Thailand, where the courses are easier. Lol. Joking with you, Sidekick. Looks like you're really enjoying 🇺🇸. Keep having fun!!
Love your videos and approach to the game. I live about 5 minutes from Lookout Mountain, and love playing here and it’s fun to see you playing this course.
After watching Not a Scratch Golfer (NASG) and then coming back to Sidekick Golf, I realized that the whole time you were playing in Asia, you were playing mostly with Pro players. Watching NASG, Adam is pretty good for an amateur. But here, expectations are a lot higher.
Great vlog. Marshals can be a pain in the ass. For me just working on more width in the back swing and a flat left wrist at the top of my swing gives me more power and accuracy. Then working on my Irish/Sicilian temper on the course😁
I'm going to practice my long clubs off the tee: driver and 3 wood. I got fit for new irons last year and they are weapons. Now it is just getting it in play far enough up to give myself more par looks with easier approach shots in.
My experience with marshals has been about 50/50. I've had marshals say that the group in front of us was the reason for all the slow play and that we were fine, and I've even had a marshal travel two holes to bring me a club I lost ( I didn't know I lost it or where) But I've also had the marshal who gives you a hard time about every little thing. Sounds like you got that type!
I went from never breaking 90 to shooting high 70s or low 80s within the last couple months; was a 24 hcp now I'm a 13 and still dropping every round. so thank you man. I write down my shots for every hole but I don't add up my score until after I walk off the 18th, that's really helped me not get bummed out after a bad hole and stay focused on the next shot. I plan to get to 10 or 11 by the start of the season and then really start grinding when this Midwest weather brightens up!
"Learn to Love Your Distances". Somewhere in my bag, there is a combination of clubs (and the associated distances) that gets me a shot at one putting for birdie and two putting for par, WITHOUT coming out of my shoes on any shot. If I can learn to love my distances, regardless of what the other guys on the course are doing, and find that combination on EVERY HOLE of every round, then I'll truly be (Louis) "Oos-golfin"...and I'll take 10 strokes off my game.
Started the year at 20.1 and will get to between 16 & 17 handicap index at least by the end of 2022. Longer term it's single figures. It's only a matter of time. 2 years ago I could barely hit the ball, got my first handicap of 34 about 1.5 years ago. The way of the playa has taught me so much! 🏌️♂️⛳👍
Great video, appreciate all the hard work recording and editing all the shots with tracker from 4 playas. Got to 18 HCP by learning how to swing a golf club from scratch since Covid. 2022 goal is to get to single digit HCP, committed to a coach for the first time and let's see where it takes me. I need to improve off the tee as that is where i lose most of my strokes. Lost my beloved gunmetal divot tool yesterday at the course (must've dropped off when i pull my glove out from my pocket), super sad =(
working on 100y and in this season. Playing the red tees for practice to get the "awkward" numbers, move back a tee once I shoot under par on 18. Keep doing this until Im all the way back. Putting drills to sharpen (and lessen) my putt #s Goal is scratch by summer
Those Cacti on the 7th hole must be holding so many balls hostage 😂 I think I'll drop my handicap by talking myself through each and every shot I know I look like a madman talking to myself but playing throughout the winter in England I've played many of my best rounds so far by doing this. Looking forward to the new season oh and some warmer weather
I'm dropping my handicap by focusing on my short game, because it's where I drop almost all of my shots. The driving range has a chip and putt course, so I'll use that to improve my shots inside 60m, and get intimate with my SW, and practice two putting everything.
That’s literally my home course 😎Lookout gets played like every course in the winter months in Arizona a ton. Keeps the Marshalls busy with all the “snow birds” coming to AZ for the winter play. You guys were staying with the group in front the whole time! Some Marshall’s need to know how the “golf train” works when they pack the courses.
I don’t think this video does justice just how hard hole 7 is, and how steep that slope up to the green is haha. Glad you boys enjoyed the round at Lookout Mountain- wish I could have joined!
Dropping my HC by learning/dialling in distances of my wedges with full swing and 3/4 swing. Looking forward to getting to the practice area after isolating with covid
I plan to lower my Handicap this year by doing the following: 1. Going to get fit for a new set of single length clubs; a graphite set of clubs more appropriate for my swing speed. 2. Changing my gear set up. ( Removing the 60 degree duff machine and putting a chipper in the bag.) Driver, 4 wood are a must. 3. 3x a week...exercise. I have also begun to see a chiropractor and a physiotherapist to help me rehabilitate after 2 years of working at home a sitting on my butt.( I had some stiffness and lost a lot of mobility.) 4. I will take lessons from a pga professional and I will practice the short game on an executive course near my home. I want to lessen my mistakes from 125 in. (These duffs are killing my scores)
Will drop the hcap this year by joining my club's men's team! Hoping to play with better playas from my own and different club. Thank you chief for everything you do
Starting the season at 25, but have been shooting between 16 and 21 (index) in the off season due to the “Way of the Playa”, so will just turn up and watch the index come down! Practice focused on being King inside 120 and the GIOTG mantra. 18 by the end of the season 🤞
Been working on differential training this offseason (credit: Adam Young Golf) to learn all the feels for bad strikes and good strikes so I can calibrate prior to a round, or in round if need be. In season, I'm only going to practice distance control and strike from 125 and in. I'm hoping to be scratch by the end of this season by not tinkering technically at all this year, just honing skills and being deadly with a wedge.
Matt, if you’re ever in the Uk I love to invite you to play with us at our local Gedney Hill in Lincolnshire! I promise you lots of fun , laughter and plenty of heckling . Us mid to high handicappers could do with some coaching 😁
I’m sitting at a 12.2 handicap right now, and I am working on my wedges to get rock solid yardages for my half, 60%, and full swing. I’m good for 50 and in, but struggle with 50-100! That’s where I think I can get to single digits this year! According to Arccos I’m losing 1.5 shots to people with my handicap with that shot, so I’m working on it now.
I ll drop my handicap by working on my mentality. I'm way too reactionary after bad, but also after amazing shots. I need my "way of the player" to include more zen, just enjoy the game, the company and the surroundings.
I’m shaving my handicap this year by focusing on dialing in my approach shots. And timing my bowel movements better. Every new course is a new opportunity to give a good toilet review.
Dam, I've already read putting out of my mind. Plan for practice is to focus on my weakest area from the previous weekend each week. 1% better each week and pray for single digits!
Should be getting my first official handicap this year once I get some cards in. So I’m just hoping to play more golf enjoy it, plant a few feathers and hopefully the lower scores will follow.
Just catching up on your vids. I've played lookout dozens of times and I'm 100% sure the marshall you ran into is the same one who flamed my foursome for not teeing off on that short #9 before the green was even clear. Ridiculous. Glad to see you made it out to AZ though!
To be a follower of the channel, the student must imitate the master: apply the "how to break 100/90/80 series, planting feathers and get more birdies, practice putting on the yard stick, get a lesson(s), and have fun....thanks for helping me become a 70's player....whattaplayer
I will shave my handicap by being able to get up and down within 100 yards. Like you, my goal is to be within 100- 150 yards. My favourite approach range.
My focus this year is to be better between 100 to 150 metres with the irons I don't need to be your level but I need to hit more greens from this distance and if I ain't hitting them be much closer to the green The consistency with these distances is needed
I´ve studied the previous seasons statistics and found out that the easiest way to "save shots" is around the green. so 4 hours around the practice green per week will be my way to consistently shot below 80.
How will I lower my handicap this season? I am going to treat my chipping like my putting; use 1 specific club alone for all chipping this year, it just happens that I chip lights out with a 7-iron!......🤔🤔🤔
I mean, my handicap is pretty high so the only way to go is down?? Since the end of the season last year I've taken a few lessons, got fitted for clubs, and have tried to visit the simulator at least once or twice every other week to not have to start over once the snow melts. Also took a trip to Arizona to visit some family and got out for at least 9 holes every day. I'm hoping this all helps me really shave the strokes off from where I started last year.
So I just got back into the game a couple years ago. COVID hit, the wife andI had a baby boy, I was working through the pandemic and needed something to do besides be home and at work. My love for the game has never been where it's at these days. Started playing at age 12 and played a ton as a kid (until I was about 20 and work and other stuff pushed me away from the game a bit) including playing competitively through high school. Was about an 6/7 handicap at my best and would shoot in the 70s often. Only played a few times a year for the 15 next years. Long story short, I get to golf about once sometimes 2x a week, and maybe practice once a week April to October these last couple golf seasons. I've been able to go from not being able to break 90 the first year and now routinely shooting in the mid 80s. Id say I'm probably a 12 hcp or so at the moment. I hope to get more consistent with my irons and of course work on my short game to hopefully break 80 for the first time in 13 years this coming golf season. But as long as I have fun, enjoy the challenge of improvement, and get some sunshine with friends I'll be happy. I'm thinking I'll be in the low 80s average by next winter, when I'm forced to hang up the sticks during the cold NY months. Appreciate your vids, as always, Playa! Can't wait to see the rest of your rounds from your trip. Sorry so long, but you did ask...and I was extremely bored!
Yeah should be pretty easy to shave a few strokes off the hc this year. Drive like Rory, strike irons like Morikawa, short game like Spieth and putt like Cantlay. Piece of cake really.
Going full Rocky Balboa. Raw eggs. Roadwork. Hitting the gym. Chasing chickens in the alley with some random bum. The whole 6 yards. I'm giving it 103%
I just got brand new clubs so I don't need to work on anything to drop my handicap. I'll gain 20 yards, hit more greens, make more putts. At least that's what the nice salesman told me...
I will drop my handycap by planting that gold feather from you and growing birdies... man that is my only hope!😃 (I promise a proof-picture if you make it happen!)
I know this sounds very weird and will be for a lot of golfers but I intend to drop my shots per round and my handicap by not going for the GIR. I usually play 96 to 100. 100% on the marshal thing. Went to a course with a newbie and the marshal followed us every hole. We haven't been back to that course since.
I would say 99% of the time, the marshals bark at the wrong people. Once in a while they are useful but not very often.
I was in AZ around the same time as these guys. Had the Marshall at McDowell Mountain tell us on 6 that the group in front of us was slow and had 2 open holes in front of us. @@slclos2534 they cause far more misery than they do the occasional time they help. Overall net negative imo.

Great vlog. Marshals can be a pain in the ass. For me just working on more width in the back swing and a flat left wrist at the top of my swing gives me more power and accuracy. Then working on my Irish/Sicilian temper on the course😁
I'm loving Danny's swing plane, keeping it from going too far out, keeps it nice and contained
I'm going to practice my long clubs off the tee: driver and 3 wood. I got fit for new irons last year and they are weapons. Now it is just getting it in play far enough up to give myself more par looks with easier approach shots in.

Adam has the most horizontal swing I've seen.
I wanna let you know i love watching you play all my favorite courses here in AZ. Small world!

Hey man- it was my pleasure to hook you up with that round- the pace of play is always poor there unfortunately but a scenic round for sure.
I love how in the middle of a call Danny just says “great shot”
Nice surprise looking for a course vlog of lookout , playing for first time tomorrow and find my two favorite RUclipsrs on one video.
Have fun
Dropping my HC by learning/dialling in distances of my wedges with full swing and 3/4 swing. Looking forward to getting to the practice area after isolating with covid
Hilarious Matt. Lookout is right by my house so I play it often. I’ve learned to completely ignore the marshals there. You did nothing wrong.
Dropping my handicap by watching your videos, and putting your scores in as mine by playing vicariously through you, simple.
I plan to lower my Handicap this year by doing the following:
I have also begun to see a chiropractor and a physiotherapist to help me rehabilitate after 2 years of working at home a sitting on my butt.( I had some stiffness and lost a lot of mobility.)
4. I will take lessons from a pga professional and I will practice the short game on an executive course near my home. I want to lessen my mistakes from 125 in. (These duffs are killing my scores)
The cost breakdown was hilarious 😂
The 3 c,s. Commitment, composure, concentrate. Every shot. Soon be playa. Love that pulp fiction sounding tune. Name please.
spot on bout the marshals and cameras.... very rarely we will hold up the show
Switching up the wedges for stronger lofts...50, 54 and 58 to help the gaps that I have
Will drop the hcap this year by joining my club's men's team! Hoping to play with better playas from my own and different club.
Thank you chief for everything you do
Ooooooo! I played here a couple years ago. Great track!
Keep up the great content guys, you are the best.
Never had a course 'marshal' in UK so when you come to visit let me know and we can get a round in or 2 :)
Love your videos Matt! especially the commentary !!!
Starting the season at 25, but have been shooting between 16 and 21 (index) in the off season due to the “Way of the Playa”, so will just turn up and watch the index come down! Practice focused on being King inside 120 and the GIOTG mantra. 18 by the end of the season 🤞

stay on the fairway and go on the green! I'm 26.4 HC, hope i can get 12 if i play enough
Also funny you had a Matt, Zach, and Danny in your group. That's the names of me and my 2 brothers. Good stuff.
Matt, if you’re ever in the Uk I love to invite you to play with us at our local Gedney Hill in Lincolnshire! I promise you lots of fun , laughter and plenty of heckling . Us mid to high handicappers could do with some coaching 😁
Adam loves that 4 wood. Uses it all the time on his channel too
Great hole on two matt. Gorgeous ball flights.
Just bought a putting alignment mirror for my perfect pea ring putting mat. Hoping to shave a few more strokes off.
Great playing boys!
I just played here! Cool to see the video
Matt, worth reading the reviews on google. The ranger at this course has quite a reputation
Trying to improve by focusing on putting (have my first putting lesson on Wednesday) and course management using the 6-6-6 system
Using your 6 part break 100 series. Currently shooting 121-125. No more 3 putts!!!
great video.. i enjoyed and and wanna see more like this.... 2 man best ball is the best

Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga? I’m so close! I’d love to host a round in Knoxville TN
LOL waddamarshal. Seems famous. Arizona is the best!
@@GolfSidekick Love you man! The only guy who convinced me to hit 9 iron twice from 250 out!
Guys, what video maker software you need to create ball flight marks? You need adobe premiere for it or sth simpler would do?
My focus this year is to be better between 100 to 150 metres with the irons
I don't need to be your level but I need to hit more greens from this distance and if I ain't hitting them be much closer to the green
The consistency with these distances is needed
Going to buy a golf simulator and put it in the guest bedroom. 50/50 chance wife kills me. But golf is life
Dropping my handicap by skying more 3 woods off the tee and having fun
Come to Sedona next year. No marshals, red rock views, perfect setting for a round for your channel.
Dropping my handicap this year by you coming to the UK and giving me some free lessons!!!!
I WILL drop shots this year by getting all my clubs RE-Gripped !!
The bucket hats and button down shirts I just bought should lower my handicap. Look good play good.
0:18 - EAL steps on the teebox lol
I thought the same thing
So I just got back into the game a couple years ago. COVID hit, the wife andI had a baby boy, I was working through the pandemic and needed something to do besides be home and at work. My love for the game has never been where it's at these days.
Started playing at age 12 and played a ton
as a kid (until I was about 20 and work and other stuff pushed me away from the game a bit) including playing competitively through high school.
I'm giving it 103%
Great stuff as always. Say, what is the instructmental that begins playing at 16:07? It has been played before and I can't register with Shazam...
To reduce my handicap, I will practice more on the range for skill enhancement, and play competitive games for improving mental game.
Dropping the HC by focusing on shots under 100yds, short game and putting.
I've only watched the first two holes, but Matt is ripping the McScheisse out of his driver. #StrongWork
I will drop my handicap this year by going to the Putt Putt course and scoring it as a Par-72 course :)
Going to drop my handicap shooting lower! Seriously going to follow the way of the Playa and don’t let Mrs. Doubt Fire get in my head.
That's what we call a golf match !
I am so disappointed that I didn’t have a heads up to you playing this course in my back yard, literally. Am golf sidekick unhappy!!
I’m gonna focus on getting better at putting by putting the ball closer to the pin with my irons
I just got brand new clubs so I don't need to work on anything to drop my handicap. I'll gain 20 yards, hit more greens, make more putts. At least that's what the nice salesman told me...
I see Zach pulled off the Ole mid round wardrobe change
Plan to lower handicap: win gold divot tool to guarantee more birdies 🤘
I will drop my handycap by planting that gold feather from you and growing birdies... man that is my only hope!😃
(I promise a proof-picture if you make it happen!)
gonna drop my handicap by playing the stress-free golf!
LOVE that you’re in my town. Did I hear you say Fuiyoo!? Uncle Roger approved.
