- Here we go! The Guyader Bermudes 1000 is here! The Imoca circuit is officially starting again, and we couldn't be more excited. New boats, new rules, fiercer competition then ever before. With only 26 places available for qualification for the Vendeeglobe2024, the Imoca60 sailors are gearing up for a long and protracted battle against the elements and each other. All with a single goal in mind: Qualifying and finishing and perhaps even winning, the VendeeGlobe2024 race around the world. The Guyader Bermudes 1000 is the first real battle in this long fight and after the summer break, the refit of many of the ships and the addition of several radical new designs to the Imoca fleet, no one knows how the sailors are now stacking up against each other. This first race will give as a first glimpse of the times to come. Who will become the race favorite? What surprising new feats of performance await us? One thing is for sure: It will be an epic spectacle of skills and daring.

Florian, I’m not a sailor and don’t have any ambitions to become one. But I was captivated by the 2020 Vendee Globe and the sheer audacity and bravery of its skippers! Your daily commentary helped keep me invested in the race. I’m looking forward to the start of the Imoca season and look forward to more Sea Wolves coverage!

you might want to watch the Worrell 1000 race a bit - this is a very interesting sailing race that has just started.- It is a cool concept for a race.

It will be very interesting to see what Hugo Boss/Hublot can do. I got the impression from the Vendee Globe that its performance was not going to be that which all the hype suggested..........
You must have misread a unit. 1 cubic metre is a volume of 1 metre x 1 metre x metre. That volume of water would weigh a ton. None of these foils has a volume of even 1 cubic metre, never mind 8.3. But the unit can't be a cubic decimetre, because that is a litre. For a rough estimate, say a foil is 8 metres long measured along its surface, has an average chord of 60 cm, and is 8 cm thick. The cross section is less than the 60 cm x 8 cm rectangle, say 300 square centimetres. Then the volume would be 240 litres, or 0.24 cubic metres. So the 8.3 must be something else.
Now a couple of weeks later i have checked the rules and it is misread, it is the static moment (ie area * distance from reference) that is 8 m3 (m2*m) there is also a maximum surface area of 7.7m2 so it will be interesting how these will affekt the design

Lower right, can't quite make them out: Otter with reflection? And then, well it starts in Brest, ends in Brest... I forgot, when was it I posed for you?

THIS IS NOT A COMMENT BUT A QUESTION. I HAVE JUST BECOME INTERESTED IN SAILING AND THE VENDEE GLOBE AND I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY FOILING BOATS SEEM TO BE THE OPPOSITE OF BOATS WITH DAGGERBOARDS. SINCE DAGGERBOARDS SEEM TO SERVE AS A KEEL, WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO DO WITH FOILS AT ALL. WOULDNT THEY BE CONTRASTED WITH THE SWINGING KEELS. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND. THANK YOU.
