My friend has one of these. We set it up but it has the problem that when he plays it, it sounds great but when I play it, it sounds shit. I can't work out what the problem is.
I'm no guitarist and I'm certainly no luthier. However, (and this is just a guess) I think the problem might lie between your fingers and the strings! Just a thought hahaha!
I agree, that's a beautiful paint job. I think the reason a lot of people don't like the Antigua finishes is that the colors didn't age well. Seasick, pea soup, baby poop green is how my friend described it. You can see the creamy yellow of the original color under the bridge posts.
That's the guitar the LATE, GREAT Arthur Smith played. He is the father of the tune every guitar picker worth his/her salt must master sometime in their career or lifetime. I really enjoy your videos.I've picked up different ways of doing the stuff I do which helps me make my work smoother and easier . Thanks Dave. KEVIN IN NC
This was my first electric guitar, the Wildwood version. ..Bought it in 1969 when I was 13, couldn't afford a Strat.Still own it and play it regularly.Believe it or not it has EXCELLENT action...very cool, funky guitar! THANKS DAVE!
Dave, love the vids...so happy I found your channel. I'm still quite new around here but I wanted to know if you ever do repairs to the finish/paint. This one has seen better days, but relic is what some people think is cool. Thanks for turning off the flippin' phone, you popular guy you.
Hi Dave, great watching you work on this interesting guitar. I hadn’t ever worked on one so it sure is nice to see how it works. I watched this and then went to eBay to see if I could get one but that’s a pretty valuable guitar, around $1.5-1.7K . You Rock Dave.
The Ernie Ball Cobalts are my favorite guitar strings. I really like their sound. I bet they added volume to this guitar unplugged. It's believed that some of these Coronodo Antiqua guitars are actually repainted Fender Wildwood guitars, where they injected dyes into live trees to color the wood. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Wildwood
Dave I've been following your guitar repair videos for years..and you've saved my ass from goochin up my stuff...I appreciate it... How do I get a tee shirt?
I actually owned this model back in the early/mid eighties (gift from Dad)...and like an idiot, I sold it years later...really fugly guitar but it played nice...and it mostly played Xanadu by Rush about six times everyday after school...fond memories.
Keep the videos coming Dave....love them plus I always have to look at your tool box to see how you have mutilated your StewMac sticker as it seems to change fairly regularly LOL.......
Dave I've just watched a video on Norman's rare guitars channel of a Coranado the same as this one. The bridge is slightly different, might be interesting to have look.? I like Antigua finish.! I must be odd. Cheers for all the vids. Rob.
It is not too good for your guitar when your "humility" is low! Ha Ha! Who knew the guitar had a Theremin built in! Great video! You have been spitting out these video, my man! Thankz
The comments are so funny. There has never been a guitar finish which has people more passionately divided between love and hate. I am normally NOT a fan of Antigua but I have to admit that, on this guitar, I really like it. Its so bad its good, kind of like shag carpeting or a suede jacket with fringe. Its a slice of retro pop culture.

Definition of DejaVu - "We've been through this shit before!" Love it!
R.I.P. "Oh, look! My phone is ringing; somebody likes me." meme. Anyways, at least they won't bother you anymore with that ringtone constantly going around while you're working.
I'm having another problem with my strat. I fixed the static by replacing the input jack. The, I just changed the pickguard and the static is back, but not as bad. I'm guessing that I gooched a connection as I was replacing the pick guard, but every thing looks fine. Do you know what's wrong? ruclips.net/video/Pn5c7L3qmjI/видео.html
Dave, you should leave your phone on and take calls as they come in. After hearing the superb Noises from the jack, hearing talking from a pissed off customer would really twist nut bags.
Happy Birthday to this beautiful guitar...42 years old tomorrow (at least that's according to the neck)! This looks as far away from a Fender as it could be..."Leo let the kids run wild in the factory"
Dave knows the second rule of fixing things. We all know the first rule: If it ain't broke don't fix it. The second rule is: "When fixing broken s---t, do as little as possible to fix it". That is: "don't take the pickguard completely off if moving it slightly out of the way achieves the goal of accessing the pick up screw" and such like. This is not laziness, it is caution. And as we all know, caution is the better part of valor. Not to mention Bone Dust and Crazy Glue. (cyanoacrylate for all you English Majors). Masterful Valorous Craftsmanship! E
Thanks Dave. I get to pull all my tiny strips of yogurt foil out of my nut slots and find that glue that you used. I've always made the sloppy mistake of mixing the bone dust into a slurry with super glue, & then frantically raced to slop the goop into the empty slot...yikes. Then I got lazy and folded a small strip of foil under the string.Procedure, procedure, procedure. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. JJZ.......(°¿.°`)
Story goes that these Coronado Antiguas were refinished from the Wildwood models, since the response to artificially colored wood was horrible, and Fender refinished a bunch of them. The Wildwood Coronados are bitchin'
The 'Three Stringed Trance Wonder' looks similar but isn't a Corado. Steve said he thinks it's some Japanese made guitar. The tail piece is definitely and the pick up (that's duct taped on) sits on top of the body. I'll stop being a nerd now.
OK Dave you crack me up, we have billions of those noisy ass bugs here in Arizona, I hate them lol and O the furnace kicked on today run for the hill because it will suck all the life right out of your guitar lol sounds like my Ex wife she could suck the life out of any party or rock for that matter. heheh I can say that because she is my ex lol PS love the video brother. :)

Amazing how this guitar finish divides opinion so vociferously - i think it's beautiful.

Ernie Ballsack!!! Nice Job Dave. The owner of this guitar is lucky to have you work on his guitar.
I actually really like the look of that guitar, looks like an oil painting
I'm thinking I've never seen a Fender hollow body. That's crazy talk...isn't it? I like it too.
I'm pretty sure ur my favourite guitar tech/repair guy to watch on RUclips. Great videos man.
We had a feidge and freezer in this color back in the '70's.
Worked in a department store that sold appliances in the '70's. The available colors? White, Harvest Gold and Avocado.
jltrem Don't forget Seafoam Green.

Joel Davison I do believe it, the fenders of this era action wise were awesome !
Drop the screw in the F whole and you you find out what F hole stands for.
that was great, Dave! I was able to see everything this time. Good job.

Cool guitar Dave thanks for showing!Cheers
Looks like the Edsel of guitars. Unique.
Very Cool Vintage piece love the look of it !
Fender came up with this finish to cover a balls up they made around the binding. The guitars were originally intended to be blonde.
The Ernie Ball Cobalts are my favorite guitar strings. I really like their sound. I bet they added volume to this guitar unplugged.

Dave, superglue mixed with baking soda dries almost immediately, and gets very hard. you can use it as a filling material.
You left out the intonation for the nation Dave.
Dave, if you cut the tip off of the pipette, you can pull a new one (tip) with a pair of pliers. I can get three, sometimes four uses out of one.
I always "WANTED" one of those too!! Guess Dave changed my mind on that. Leo Fender could not have thought that up. No Way

This model was designed by Roger Rossmeisl. The same guy that designed the 300 series for Rickenbacker (330, 360, etc..)
Dave I've just watched a video on Norman's rare guitars channel of a Coranado the same as this one. The bridge is slightly different, might be interesting to have look.? I like Antigua finish.! I must be odd. Cheers for all the vids. Rob.
I saw this too: Norman's Rare Guitars - Guitar of the Day: 1967 Fender Coronado II Antigua
My brothers first real guitar back in the day. Great guitar in its day.
We know all about humididity here in SC.
I don't know why, exactly, but these guitars in this Antigua finish are worth a crazy amount of cash as of late. And first as well
They are fairly rare in that finish, 50ish years ago they stopped making em, and this finish was limited number, so collectors want them
Feedback with whammy bar at the end made me laugh!
Davey Hendrix 😂
That's how an Antigua finish is either you love it or you hate it
Rick James: cocaine is a hell of a drug
Unityyyyyyyyyyyy
Fairly rare in that finish, awesome awesome awesome!
It is not too good for your guitar when your "humility" is low! Ha Ha! Who knew the guitar had a Theremin built in! Great video! You have been spitting out these video, my man! Thankz
Nice !
Epic ending too !

Really cool
Had a pair in sunburst, coronado 1 & 2 actually liked the single pickup 1 better
R.I.P. "Oh, look! My phone is ringing; somebody likes me." meme.
Anyways, at least they won't bother you anymore with that ringtone constantly going around while you're working.
Bizarre they just featured one of them on the Normans rare guitars channel
Shaun-Dawson telecaster
"It's not so much the tip, but the barrel..."

is it me or does trem work In reverse. when you dive it down it raises the pitch,, not lower it

Happy Birthday to this beautiful guitar...42 years old tomorrow (at least that's according to the neck)! This looks as far away from a Fender as it could be..."Leo let the kids run wild in the factory"
Thats a good name for it Dave. 'Bone Dust'.
I think I'd rather have a thinline tele with a bigsby.
Master at work..
Dave, did you see this? Norman's Rare Guitars - Guitar of the Day: 1967 Fender Coronado II Antigua
Doug J wasn't it a tele from a week ago?
I dig the finish.
Cool guitar .
At first when I saw it I went Yuch but it’s beautiful 60s heaven
Can’t blame Leo for it. CBS was in control.
That guitar should be called 'beer goggles'. For the obvious reason. After 3 pints its the hottest thing in the world.
Are you going to get by some shirts in soon??? I don't think a sticker will cover the same places a tee shirt would.

@@DavesWorldofFunStuff I agree, I've seen some horrific amp restorations on YT that make me want to punch people.
Well done
Antigua, also known as barfburst.
lol... split-pea burst lol
Ahahah baby poo!
Thanks Dave. I get to pull all my tiny strips of yogurt foil out of my nut slots and find that glue that you used.

Personally I LOVE IT!
17:10 Shimmy Jimmy makes an appearance.
Story goes that these Coronado Antiguas were refinished from the Wildwood models, since the response to artificially colored wood was horrible, and Fender refinished a bunch of them. The Wildwood Coronados are bitchin'
does dave happen to be from MN?
That’s the same model guitar I saw Charlie Pride playing on Hee Haw
I think Leo Nocentelli of The Meters played one as well back in the day
Muy Guapo
Hey! That was a half turn!!! lol JK You are the best!
Normans Rare Guitars just had that guitar for sale!!
waynemarc77 If it's the one within a couple of weeks ago, that was a telecaster
I thought I coulda had a sandwich, but NooOOOO!
doesn't seasick steve use one of these thats gooched up ?
The 'Three Stringed Trance Wonder' looks similar but isn't a Corado. Steve said he thinks it's some Japanese made guitar. The tail piece is definitely and the pick up (that's duct taped on) sits on top of the body. I'll stop being a nerd now.
hehe, i kinda like the sound of the pups, its got a really nice clean sound, but goes like a gretsch filtertron when its turned up, lots of output.
My new amp goes to 13!
Uncle Ted would approve.
That bridge looks like a bathroom scale.
What kind of sandwich did you have?
F'n razor blade lmao.
i had a coronado II 12 string it took 6 hours to change the strings absolutely the worst designed to ever come from Fender ( CBS era )...
looks like the Munsters smoking a fat joint.......
antigua devil...
This is not Antigua I have been to Antigua and it's beautiful.
A rattle-can paint job would look better -- whew... Otherwise very ES'y...
That's a serious pill of crap but I would love to own it!
What a whacky guitar
Those Antigua finish guitars are all so god damn hideous. I puked in my mouth.
one dead looking guitar
It's like corpse paint for guitars
OK Dave you crack me up, we have billions of those noisy ass bugs here in Arizona, I hate them lol and O the furnace kicked on today run for the hill because it will suck all the life right out of your guitar lol sounds like my Ex wife she could suck the life out of any party or rock for that matter. heheh I can say that because she is my ex lol PS love the video brother. :)
Honestly it's so fucking ugly it's kinda cool looking.
You said f hole.
At the end would like to hear it with distortion.
Its fugly in the best way
they make those in china for little money now, but nothing beats 67 :P good work Dave
he is soooo kanukistan . . .
Yep, it's ugly. Send it to me. lol
This is the ugliest guitar finish in history.
"Fender Crowned II Antique"
the name is as ugly as the guitar itself.
great video as always tho.
Hideous looking instrument.
