You know a chapter is legendary when you can call an emergency Reverie just based on the mural
This, I want the full think tank on this.
"It was probably just some kids dream." I cant explain how much Ripley saying that moved me. Looking at from a meta sense of it being Oda writing out his dream. Looking at it from the perspective of Roger and Luffy and how the story starts due to a childs dream. It encapsulates the reason I love One Piece. It also reminds me of my 2nd favorite story ever Billy Bat by Naoki Urasawa where the thematic throughline is about how Art and Stories is the one thing that can give us solace and unity in the endless darkness of the humanity. I really think Oda is aiming for a similar thematic throughline as Billy Bat and honestly solidifies why both stories will always be my top 2.
I have a friend who lives in Japan who is a native English speaker but he is fluent in Japanese (N1 level), and I asked him to translate the Harley text for me. One caveat, he actually knows basically nothing about One Piece. But he said he tried to translate it as literally as possible (keeping the meanings of the words roughly the same, but he said he also tried to preserve sentence structure and grammar as much as possible). And just to note, he is a grad student and he translates stuff pretty regularly, so I tend to trust his ability for stuff like this. Here is his translation:
The first world.
There is a flame on the land.
Men fell to their desires,
were touched by the forbidden sun.
The slaves wished.
“The god of the sun” appeared.
The god of the land is angered.
Together with the serpent of the inferno,
he encompasses the world with death and darkness.
Now they can meet no longer.
The second world.
There is a breath in the void.
The god of the forest has sent devils.
The sun only widens the flames of war.
The men of the half moon had a dream.
The men of the moon had a dream.
Men kill the sun and become gods.
The god of the sea has become savage.
Now they can meet no longer.
The third world.
There is chaos in the emptiness.
The inconvenient remnant remembers the promised day,
hears the voice of the crescent moon.
“The god of the sun” dances, laughs,
leads the world to its end.
The sun returns, a new morning comes.
It is certain that they can meet.

@Orbitalbomb It is in fact the most insane thing! At this point I rate consistency over quality and Oda who has delivered both over 25+ years... that is not "just life", he is in a league of his own.
That chapter gave me chills. Halfway through reading it i felt the urge to cry for some reason. I dont think ive ever been so excited for future events in a story EVER!

I cant stop thinking about it either. Ive been at work yesterday and I couldnt stop talking about it, thinking about the world building, what is and what could be.... I think Oda just revealed everything to us the reader but its still unclear. we need confirmation about all of that, is the will of D the half moon? Is crescent moon the celestial? Is sea god the curse put on forest god's devils? Is serpent of Fire the Redline? Is the center of it all Yggdrasil Tree? ? Honestly, when I think about how Luffy got everything on his shoulder, since the start. he get the straw hat, the shank's promise, roger's dream, the future pirate king, his nakama, the fleet, the sungod power, the will of D, the voice of the universe, similar to Joyboy, he also got poseidon, soon pluton, and uranus... etc...etc.... Only time will tell us how the story will go from now on, Its gonna be greatness and peak at an otherworldy level. I can feel it. get ready, people.
Everytime I look at that panel I see something I didn’t notice before. And I must say I love that Franky was the one to see it. The silhouette of Franky standing at the base of the tree is striking. And the implications of Shanks’s backstory is so intriguing. When could he have returned to Mariejoise? Is his sword similar to Shamrock’s? Did Garling welcome him back? Was Shanks possibly trained by the God’s Knights after he departed from Roger’s crew? I feel like we’re going to get some Shanks flashbacks soon. And at the same time after looking at the mural I’m trying to wrap my head around how Blackbeard fits into all of this. Will he end up being the final villain ? Will Luffy fight him before or after the world government? I always say this, but this is the most exciting weekly experience I’ve ever had.
It needs to be said that the mural being drawn by a child is simply a theory by Ripley. Because in her world, its a childlike dream for Giants to fight together with others
I wish unreliable narrators were more of a thing in one piece but they’re really not.
No she definitely meant it was childlike from the drawing style and that it looks like a fantasy scenario

@Laurboy97 The speech but bubbles before she says it are in reference to the Giants not embracing other cultures. She still doesn't believe that Giants teamed up with others in the distant past. So she calls it a dream.
The dream part seems more metaphorical to me but some of the fanbase is taking it literally I guess both are possible to Recons point in this video

I want to say weve used to pray for time like this, but honestly- i never knew time like this are possible. The mural went above and beyond what i thought is the limit for this series. No one can stop it now - they will surely meet again
Oden knew 20 years in the future because 5 years before his death he and Roger heard the neptunians in ch 968 talking about "2 sovereigns meeting again" which is Luffy and shirahoshi.
"Just ten until birth and 15 to grow up" which means 25 years from that scene which is right now
The bird/dragon on top of Yggdrasil probably died fighting the serpent... Now guess who had the ancestor on his ship, in the form of an egg 👀 maybe scopper is taking care of it, waiting for the birth. That's why he's on elbaph?
I've been reading through various parts of the story and watching/reading theories. I am still in a state of frenzy
One Piece became something special to me at Robin’s flashback. Robin inspired me to do archival research in college. I cried when I first flipped to the final panel. I thought I’d have to wait until Laugh Tale for me to feel what I’m feeling right now. The final panel alone would make this chapter one of my favorites. This chapter was special to me.
One thing i really like is how oda used the concept of show, not tell perfectly. We were always waiting for information about the void centurury, but to actually see the visuals and verses made the experience unlike no other. This wouldn't hit the same if it was just information fed to us
This chapter was incredibly phenomenal. Loved seeing your reaction, and this video is definitely warranted considering how many thoughts have spawned because of it. No matter if I’m at work or running errands I haven’t been able to stop thinking!
Dude hearing the way you talk about certain aspects of this chapter, i genuinely think FFXIV is for you man. Like FOR you. I’m currently playing Endwalker and Ive never experienced a story like this in my life, it’s gut wrenching, sorrowful, bleak, evokes feelings of despair… all the while being the most absolutely beautiful, hopeful and heartwarming story I’ll ever encounter.

Blackbeard’s flag has 3 Skulls and perhaps 8 Bones, and Yami-Yami can nullify the power of devil fruits even more than the sea.
With this chapter I could see Blackbeard’s real power maybe being similar to Luffy: Teach being the incarnation of the Sea God, his form being that of a (three headed?) kraken-like creature and darkness being its ink. In the mural what seems to be fire at the bottom I thought could be tentacles. And the sea god and Nika hadn’t “met” each other either, right?
When you mentioned us going to heaven realm and learning about the first world, a certain image/scene formed in my head.
The crew goes to the heaven realm and finds out that there is one artifact preserved from the first world and is kept as a historic monument. And it's a smartphone with it's screen cracked.
How wild would it be if the whole story of One Piece is a fantasy representation of a prophecy to our real world.
I think it's Imu and the elders on the left of the mural but there are 6 people in the boat not 5. My theory is that blackbeards ancestor was the 6th elder and were possibly betrayed or kicked out.
with the importance of the Adam Wood Tree I think that the third god knight could be based off be based of the Amazonian empress Penthesilea who was one of the female 9 worthies characters who embody knightly aspects such as chivalry and that Penthesilea is known to carry a giant silver axe therefore the identity of the knight could be Silver Axe's daughter raised by the World Government carrying her dad's weapon or a reanimated version of the dead empress Tritoma and she could use her axe to chop the tree down.

One Piece had lost me with Egghead and Wano, their endings were very disappointing to me and made me lost some of my faith in the series, but this chapter remembered me why this was once my favorite show

What up coach. I don’t believe a child drew the mural. Ripley says that she felt a child drew it because it depicts Giants working with other races. Which is a concept she feels can only be thought of as childish or unrealistic in her eyes. Also I believe the giant that resembles Loki is supposed to represent the ancient giants, that’s why the horned one looks bigger than the other giant depicted with the shield. Plus each race is only represented by one individual, one mink, one tontatta etc.. so to me it makes sense that it’s an ancient giant along with a regular giant fighting alongside Nika
