Hindi cinema is only mainstream in MH and the Hindi belt urban, not for the whole country. The local language industries are what is mainstream in the South. In TN, for instance, very few people even watch any content in languages other than Tamil or English.

@@masakamasaka2006 true, but those lot are still the minority. There are way more Telugu and Malayalam people who watch Tamil films than the other way round. TN is perhaps the most monolingual of the southern states. Even second generation migrants in Chennai from Telugu or Hindi regions speak a lot of Tamil at home and consume Tamil content.
Tamil industry itself is a mainstream industry . This song is composed by AR Rahman who is the most mainstream artist of Indian cinema

The answer to your question asked at 06:52 is Yes, it has happened. The songs always come out great because they are produced by A.R.Rahman himself, but often times they are either not picturized well, or cut short or not included at all in the film. A.R.Rahman himself has talked about this issue a number of times. I will just mention a few of them :
1. 'Vaan Varuvaan' is a song from 'Kaatru Veliyidai' (the same film which has the song 'Azhagiye'), it's an extremely beautiful song, feels like fresh cold air caressing your face. But Mani Ratnam, the director, for some reason decided to keep only about 2 minutes of it in the film.
2. In another Mani Ratnam film called, Raavan (made as Raavanan in Tamil), there is a song called 'Ranjha Ranjha' sung by Rekha Bhardwaj and Javed Ali. That song was easily the best song of the film, but Mani Ratnam decided not to keep it in the film. In the movie you hear a very different version of that song, sung by Ila Arun.
3. In the 2008 movie 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' directed by Abbas Tyrewala, produced by Aamir Khan, there were two amazing songs in the soundtrack, 'Jaane Tu - Female Version' sung by Runa Rizvi and 'Jaane Tu - Male Version' sung by Sukhvinder Singh, but unfortunately both of them were edited out of the film.
4. The title track of Yash Chopra's final film 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' could not be filmed because of his death, so it was just played during the end credits of the film. Shakthisree Gopalan's (female singer) portion of that song was just too good, but unfortunately we could never really see the visuals of that song.
5. In M.F. Hussain's fillm 'Meenaxi' starring Tabu, there is a song called 'Do Kadam Aur Sahi', i just wish it had a better picturization. It's an outstanding song, but it's almost used as background music in the film.
In one of his interviews, Rahman mentioned that he was embarrassed by the picturization of some of his songs, but he didn't mention which songs.
Almost 6 months later, I had requested for reaction.. Now we got to watch... Thank you OSR
Rick's speed of finding the reference to the notes of the songs is impeccable.. He instantly recognized the initial beatboxing tht reminded us of Bobby Mcferrin and then quickly connected it with the 'Manhattan transfer' as the scale changed , this is amazing , not only he has indepth music knowledge but at the speed at which he finds the reference is stunning..He did the same with strawberry Pennae reaction but I knew he'd definetely go for the "westside story 's ' officer krupke song:)

I think its gonna be difficult when they hve to stress on the izhl sound ,in the word Tamilzh as opposed to saying zha syllable separately.. Maybe they can relate to some French words whr the zha sound is prominent.
@@motogp1181 Actually, not really, they pronounce the word 'r' like how we pronounce 'zh', if we just explain the mending of it a bit more, they'll get used to it.

They have tongue twisting in ‘er’, US has many accents of English which changes as they move between states and the word ‘r differs in how it is pronounced. Like how we have Madurai Tamil, chennai Tamil, kovai, thirunelveli etc…

Azhagiye is pronounced as Aragiye. The zh alphabet (to be pronounced much like R or L sometimes) is peculiar to only South Indian languages like Tamil. For example, the word Tamizh is pronounced as Tamil

I saw the movie name and i got so excited thinking that you guys are reacting to the song saarattu vandiyila from the movie (stupid me 😅, as if this movie can have no other songs) and i was going to comment here just after starting it. Then i realized that their can be more then 1 song in a movie so i checked further and yes this was not the same song (got a little disappointed) and then the song started and i forgot everything thing and was smiling again 😁😁. I had heard this song already but never saw the video nor did i realize that it belonged to this movie.

ARR is approaching his 30th year of his music directing career we fans are celebrating his latest album for the film , Atrangi Re, starring Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan directed by Anand L Rai. The soundtrack is sublime, full of electric energy, soul and gorgeous interludes. Please do check out the songs. It's the most impressive rhythm and percussion highlighted soundtrack of his in ages with loads of melody, rich production, sound, layering, arrangements and vibrant colors. It's one of my favorites from ARR of his latter career and my love for it still growing.
