Michael Biehn didn't like it very much. He didn't mind working with Charlie Sheen, he was as sober as a church. Apparently, the director had no idea what he was doing.
I don't know why this movie gets hate for. I think it's a very well filmed movie, it's not perfect but its a got really well done scenes like this, hell I'd say it's way better then the movies coming out today.
Some people talk crap about this movie but it actually has many of the best and most iconic scenes, actors, musical scores, and phrases of all the navy seal movies to ever come out and was instrumental in bringing public awareness to this highly secretive group. I can say that because I own all navy seal movies and because I grew up during this era. Before this movie came out in theaters in 1990, a big majority of people didn't know who the navy seals were and even the name confused people until they realized afterwards it was actually an acronym for sea, air, & land. After this movie released, people everywhere of all ages talked about them and had the biggest respect for their insanely difficult training and dangerous missions and the lore of the navy seals began right there and hasn't stopped since. The military enjoyed a huge wave of patriotism and enlistment in due part because of this movie and other significant military movies like Top gun. The coolest part are those are actual seals jumping out in unison and into aerial formation out of the C130, parachuting into the water, and swimming away underwater.
This is the most realistic (if not the only one) HALO jump ever filmed... btw those F/A-18 are from the Spanish Air Force (known as EF-18A the "E" standing for España)
When they jumped out of the C-130 that was Done old school No computer generation No CGI they Do Not make movies like this No more they cameraman jumped out of the C-130 with the rest of the crew to get the shot
I saw this in the movies when it was released in 1990. I saw the cool movie poster in the lobby of the Roosevelt Field movie theater in Long Island and had to follow-up and see it. I saw it by myself. This was the best part and scene in the movie. The rest of it sucked. At least the movie theater is still there. My father gave me a lesson on Vietnam by taking me too see most of the 80's war films: FMJ, Platoon, and Hamburger Hill (on VHS). But this movie lived up to no expectation despite the multiple good actors in it (as I just realized). But by then my father passed on. Moving forward into 30 years of movie history, if I could have a wish that he saw one more film, it would be The Hunt for Red October with Sean Connery. Update: The movie theater was replaced and underwent a name change to AMC. Though father did not see the movie , he read Tom Clancy’s book, HFRO which I still have marked up.
I spent most of my career in the Teams, and I would like to refute that Coast Guard comment. Those guys have all my respect. They put it on the line every day.
Brings back memories only the tailgate was already up at take off. United the herd PA. 70's burning cars shooting cannons. Illegal jumps and I still live. All good.
You can say anything about the film...but I could guarantee it bought a lot of guys searching ....."stay safe out there" !!! somebody has to do it....who you gonna call?
You know, to make the music, they don't use ordinary musical instruments, they use a kind of electronic instrument called a synthesizer. It's really futuristic.

Johnny Cade Thanks for replying! I've already checked and it's not on the soundtrack :( I thought maybe someone could know the song playing in that scene at about 49:32.
Dear Johnny, I'm so excited to tell you that thanks to you I've managed to find the song. I remember I've already looked through the end credits, but somehow I must have missed it the first time. And since you suggested it, I decided to try again. If it wasn't for you I would never check there again. I can't thank you enough :)) So, the song is Wounded Warrior performed by Vicki Thomas and it's not on the sountrack as far as I know. Thank you for helping me out! :) I wish you all the best! ;)
Hahahaha, yeah I sure will ;)) But you're obviously more informed and versed than I am. Thank you for the link! It's one more source of information that is new to me. I'm still learning when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Thanks for the advice. You're very kind! :) I'm listening to the song right now here on tube and eating chocolate. I actually don't even drink coffee, but I guess chocolate will do ;)
Gray Fox, no offense, but even if in the movie they call it HALO, the chutes open way above the ceiling (This allows for gliding sometimes more than 25 miles), so for having practiced it it is definitely HAHO. In HALO jumps, chutes opening is usually below 3000ft. this is not the case here, you can trust me on it.
3.01 always hits me so hard in the feels...the dawn, the music , the hatch opening....21 years still the same emotion
Gives me chills
This movie made me want to become a Navy SEAL...Hoo-ya!
I feel too from 1990 today
Charlie Sheen and Michael Biehn got more people into Teams than Navy recruiters :-D
I saw this when I was in the Marines in 1990. Great movie. Unexpectedly good.
Michael Biehn didn't like it very much. He didn't mind working with Charlie Sheen, he was as sober as a church. Apparently, the director had no idea what he was doing.
Can't believe this scene was shot in 1990....this was incredible....real jump with the real plane. Brilliant camera work
Cậu Tài was the jump real ? How do you know. ?
That era of movies they callerd real filming
In that year the technology not like now

I always look at it as an R rated Top Gun.
R.I.P. Bill Paxton!
It gets real when it depressurizes.
You don’t gotta love it, you just gotta do it😎
I love the background music
I used to watch this scene several times before going skydiving for real, along with the other scene from 'Point Break'.
