  • Let's play Heads Will Roll: Reforged, a medieval tactical RPG that thrusts us into the life of a militiaman during the One Hundred Years War, fighting (at first) for England. It's a charming game with great replay value, and many chances to replay as you will die often! Plays similar to A Legionary's Life.

I played a ton of A Legionary's Life and found my best way to play was to focus on surviving. before you start accumulating a decent amount of meta points and using randomly generated characters, you're just never going to be up for most challenges thrown your way. Eventually you'll get some lucky breaks and the bonuses you get from surviving will get you a consistent amount of points to start actually shaping your playthroughs. all it takes is one miracle run to catapult your next character into a real contender. Also, question about HWR, are new combatants ALWAYS completely fresh? in Legionary's Life it depended on a number of things like number of rounds, the battle, the enemies and so on.

Yeah I've reached that beyond-lucky-break point here, although this char was random'd so people get an idea how it is to start. Our next run will kick butt! It should. (Or it'll die immediately... could still happen with bad RNG)
New combatants mostly enter fresh, but it depends on the battle scenario. Some battles, even the starting combatants won't be fresh, they come fatigued as part of the story. But I'd say 90% of the time, fresh.

Dropped a lot of hours into the game after your upload. Head will roll is hard as nails. I like the ideas but I wish the UI wasnt so compact. Too many clicks to get to menus you use frequently both in battle and out.
Still having a lot of fun though.

I agree: UI/UX is not great. But I had low expectations, so it at least met them :)

Very much enjoying this. Coming to grips with how each battle is conducted will take some time to learn.

This game seems better overall but the roman setting was just a lot more fun to me

I'm pretty indifferent, maybe slightly agree. It's just the game is so much better mechanically that it'd be hard to go back for me.

I believe you its more worth to create a character manually next time and boost hard his skills. Very interesting game btw keep it up we want more of this in youtube

The game looks good, the challenge is there but the visual novel form is a bane for viewing. It's already tedious to slog through several dialog boxes of generic text but it's compounded by how your character could not care less, not doing quests, taking all the safe options, then what's the point of even reading it. That makes for so, much, dead time.
Not that it matters, I'm sure other viewers enjoy the story and editing the narration out would be too much effort but yeah, if I drop out of this series it will be the only reason. 'Coz otherwise you can die three times over and I would still be interested.

Understandable. I was torn about whether to narrate or click through. You may note that I'm trying to speed-read as quickly as I bloody well can. Maybe others will weigh in on this.
That said, I will be bypassing dialogue that we've already seen after death in future playthroughs. It will be _much_ quicker and I'm looking forward to that.

@@TortugaPowerI think what you're doing is probably the best compromise, it makes for a slower first couple episodes but then later on when everyone knows what's going on you can just fly through it all and get to the more interesting bits

Well, stealing is seen by the Lord, so of course you lose Virtue! (And you KNOW it's wrong, at least you STILL do) so you impose a virtue loss on yourself, as it were.
Speaking of, I really expected the string of wins with loaded dice to have some serious consequences, but it seems that may be something that never happens. A missed trick they could have added to the game.
I saw something on the Steam page that one long time player had never really noticed there were NO combat animations AT ALL. That lack doesn't bother me, BUT, having the one guy on the wall lose his shield yet the graphic didn't update to show him with NO shield is something that might start to grate. As you have to remember which guy has no more shield or even helmet, etc. So, animations, not needed, but updating the graphics as the battle progresses, yes please!
The game is going to spite you by keeping rando alive for the longest you've ever made it! ;-)
The dialogs ARE the game; you might just not read them aloud and just say why you are making the choice--especially when you make a different choice then we might expect.

I agree about the loaded dice having a negative event (like drinking alcohol), and maybe it exists and I've gotten lucky.
There is a small shield icon on the enemy's avatar/icon at the top, and that will change to broken when they drop their shield or it breaks. Not as nice as an animation or just swapping the sprite to one without a shield, I agree.
      > "The game is going to spite you by keeping rando alive for the longest you've ever made it!:
      It's crazy, but I think you're right...
