Here in Manistee area, no planting yet, below freezing the next few days. My lettuce is coming up in my green stalk in my greenhouse. I had let lettuce go to seed at the end of the season, so on a warm day a month ago, I pulled up the old plants, and sprinkled the seeds over the soil, and watered them in. Starting to empty last years pots into a bin, to refresh the soil for this year. I have broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower started, and a few peppers sprouting indoors. Going to start some flowers, herbs and tomatoes next week.

I need to repot them to bigger containers and I'll get that done next week. I can tell they're struggling in the small containers and they need a bigger home with a little better soil. We have Creeping Charlie too. It's is a big pain in the butt!

Michigander here. I’m north of Detroit. Live in a condo so my garden is very small. Have a green stalk, a small raised bed and many containers. I’ll begin working in my garden in a few weeks. I’m planning on a lot of chard and spinach and wax beans. I’ll also do some leek, a tomato plant or two and a few herbs and annuals. Planting for one and have to be conscious of the space I have. I’ll probably get a four pack of cabbage from the garden shop near me. Love chard and spinach for a side dish so I pick them when they are tender and do a few plantings.

I am totally with you on how peas bring a sense of peacefulness to gardening. My Mormor (grandma) grew peas and always let us go out to her garden and devour what we wanted. She passed away when I was ten, now in my fifties. I get super excited when I find that first full pod, snap it open, and savory the sweetness inside and remember a time so long ago. I find shelling them so relaxing and satisfying to my soul. It's bizarre to some people, lol my family, but there isn't anything better! Well, maybe that first green bean!

The peas were planted back in mid/late February, and are showing their first tendrils now. Where I am, peas only get about a 2 week window for harvest, so I plant Green Arrow peas which are a dwarf variety that has about 10 peas per pod. I sowed about 750 this year, and it probably still won't be enough!

Mid 50's today but only mid 30' for the next 2 days then 40's. Started peppers 5 weeks ago, tomatoes 2 weeks ago. Second round of peppers this week along with flowers, than in a few weeks more tomatoes. By spreading out the starting helps to spread out the harvesting. Will be starting brassicas this coming week. I’ve started a bunch of seeds, onion seeds I think I saw in my garden or someone say after about eight weeks, separate them, and start putting them in the soil I do have onions getting ready to be done I planted in fall. I also planted recently too big old batches of potatoes. I did garlic for the first time hopefully be done by July. I’ve already done with my first batch of lettuce and I still have some kale I planted some tomatoes in trays and a couple of squashes in the ground in the soil. I do container gardening where I live in my backyard. I have no grass no grass, so I have to use those massive big containers and I’m four years into gardening. Oh my carrots are gonna be ready to pull by June. I’ve gotten so good at carrots I’d like to succession grow carrots as well I even have a big pear tree that provides shade for cooler Cooler weather plants that won’t get so much sun to where they’re gonna burn. Southeast NE here, zone 5b (6a according to new zones) and haven’t planted anything yet but hoping to either this weekend or next. Just got my onions so they’ll be first to go in. Hoping to get all my other cold crops in about same time though if I have the time lol

Northern Nevada. Put my peas and potatoes in the garden on St. Patrick's Day. Nothing else will go in for a few weeks as our last hard freeze date isn't until the middle of April and last frost the middle of May.

Near the Gaylord area of Michigan. I only have garlic planted outside right now; it's going to be too cold for the next few weeks to plant too much else. I will start the peas & beans in a few weeks, along with other cold crops. I do have a lot started inside and hoping they all transplant outside well. The seedlings took off this year and I will have a lot to transplant. I'm thinking about making some cold frames for my raised beds. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. It really helps a lot to know timing for planting, etc.

Was thinking about getting peas and maybe some onions out soon here in Central Maine and then we just got a foot of snow this weekend! I've never been so happy to have been lazy a few weeks ago 😂 Living vicariously through this video. Soon enough it'll be our turn!!

I live in NM at 1600’. We have already planted potatoes and have more to plant, then peas and carrots next! We have to add mycorrhizae, otherwise, there is little life in our sand.

Love peas! Anyone, Question- last season i had a lot of my pea plants severed right at the base. Ideas as to What might be the pest? Only evidence was earwigs or slugs. But no other damage . Very disappointing.

I agree, creeping charlie is the the worst. It grows over the top of mulch, any root will regrow a plant, as well as self seeds. Uggh. That soil looks amazing. Good luck with your peas.

I am having a great start to my gardening year here in North Texas zone 8A- I have planted Wando Peas (heat and cold tolerant) and they are taking off and I am so far very pleased with them. I also planted Kelvedon Wonder peas as they did fabulous for me last year and produced huge peas. I have also planted carrots, onions and garlic and am doing a trial run with onions, beets, kohlrhabi and potatoes. All seem to be doing very well, but we will see how they do once the heat sets in. I also have tomatoes started inside as well as some marigolds and peppers. I am so excited about gardening season this year!

so excited to start planting. Do you know if I can plant the snap peas/sugar peas in my Greenstalk? This is my second year with it but all I did last year was salads and herbs So Im still in that nervous stage lol. Thank you for any advise.

I just use a trowel and drop in seeds. And I'm all over the place with no straight lines.😂I think Creeping Charlie is most my lawn. It's green stuff. Put tiny cabbage in a mini greenhouse and still alive so hold on to bring the rest out.

Have you ever considered starting your seeds using the Winter Sowing method? This is my third year and so far, it's been great for me. I have a small house with no room inside for starting seeds in it. Plus, it gets me 'playing in the dirt' at the end of February. I do have some sweet potatoes growing slips in a $ Tree container and am looking forward to having a nice crop of them. I still have about half of a box in the garage from last year's harvest. Best of luck with your garden this year.

I planted lettuce and spinach already and they've sprouted even with our cold snap, and tomatoes and peppers are in the greenhouse. What's the best sugar ratio for peas? I planted a bunch last year after soaking them to sprouting and the birds ate at least three beds i planted on the trellis, about 200 peas. I think your birds are celebrating and meal planning in the background. 😂 All i found every day were holes in my soil and it was all the green arrow variety. So nice to see you back in your garden. It really was strange not seeing any gardening videos from you even though i know you needed the rest. Thanks for your content Rachel!

So glad to see you with dirty hands again! LOL you are lucky to be able to do that in March. We are in Canada, southern Quebec, and still have 6 inches of snow on our garden. But the weather is changing and we will be planting our peas before we know it.

How do you determine how much per square foot? Its my first year growing peas, and I think Ive lost the first planting already.... they just never came up planting 60 days before what they say my last frost day is (3/6, they are saying 5/3 is last frost, but I normally don't plant out til at least 5/15).... at the time everything was saying to plant around 1" apart all over, is it different growing container versus in ground? Going to try another sowing soon, but have never planted anything this early since Im normally not able to work the soil yet here in northern Indiana.
