    Always enjoy your content and explanation of the featured items your presenting. Have loads of older Pentax's like this one, but often have wondered why the only one's for sale are coming from the Orient. Really digging on that early M42 screw mount lens, since it really sets off that satin silver body that model has. Looking forward to part two. Thank you for your time.

      Thank you, Murray! Pentax made a number of cameras solely for the Japanese market, but so did all the makers. This month I have the X-600 reviews scheduled, too, and that's another Japanese-only camera.

      @@DavidHancock just wondered. Have one of each which I circulate back and forth, but honestly I like shooting the X-370 a little more. Seems more intuitive in nature. Will be looking forward to your thoughts on the X-Series Minolta's. Have a great evening David.

    There's an auto function that came later on for these cameras. Auto flash, set your aperture and sync speed on the camera and set your auto flash, and fire away! My Sunpak potato smashers and my Vivitar 285 flashes, and other auto flashes, will do the trick. You can do weddings and studio modeling work on these.

    And just in time! I recently ordered a near-mint condition S2 (not super) from ebay and can't wait to shoot it - thanks for the video, David :)

      Perfect! Apart from the shutter speed and potentially the frame count rewind function, they're the same.

      @@DavidHancock Hey David! I actually have follow-up question for ya: I ordered a silver Helios 58mm f2 lens (I believe the same one you have on in your video) and can't wait to shoot with it! But I've heard issues with the rear-end of the lens interfering with the S2 (and other M42 models) with the mirror or is too long. For the S2, can a lens like the Helios just screw on and be ready to shoot, or will I need an additional adapter to attach it without issue?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  4 года назад

      @@ponce8716 hmm. I haven't had that issue but the rear element does protrude quite far. I'm not sure how to test that.

      @@DavidHancock Ahh okay, good to know ! I've read that folks can't focus or bring it to infinity, but guess I'll see when I test out, haha. Thanks David!

      @DavidHancock  4 года назад +1

      @@ponce8716 There are some Helios lenses where that's true, about the focus. They have an M39 mount but were meant for Russian SLRs work a shorter register distance. Those definitely won't work on M42 cameras.

    David, I just found your channel and glad that you made so many videos about analog cameras! Currently I am considering to get Pentax Camera, between Pentax K and S2 which one better in your opinion?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Actually, neither of those. If you want an M42 meterless Pentax, the SV/H3V (same camera, different markets) is my personal favorite. The SL is another great option. The K and S2 are older than those and have mechanisms with earlier iterations of the shutter engineering design. So they work and are reliable, but they are a problem to find replacement parts for if they fail. The H3V/SV and SL are starting to become hard to fix, too, but there are lots out there that work well.
      For any of the M42 Pentax cameras, make sure to see photos of the shutter curtains (both before and after the shutter is triggered.) What you want to find are ones that are smooth. Curtains that are wrinkled, dull in color, or have discolorations are drying out and will fail sooner or later.

      @@DavidHancock I see David. I just try the Spotmatic SP comparing with the K, the K viewfinder just seems bigger and the shutter sound feels smoother. Do you think that the SV viewfinder also as big as the K one?

    • @DavidHancock

      @@adestcool IIRC, Asahi used the exact same viewfinder prism from the AP though the end of the Spotmatic run. At minimum, I believe all the cameras have the same frame coverage and magnification.

    They don't make cameras the way they used to.

    • @DavidHancock

      No they don't. I did have to have this one repaired (bought it non-functional) but it was totally worth it. This is a fun camera to shoot with.
