  • Duncan Premium Gold Overglaze is Amazing. Just one coat fired to 017 (takes about 4.44 hours) and you get stunning results. Takes a pottery piece that's just okay to GLAMOROUS! I love it so much. It's really easy once you follow the tips and tricks I've included in this video. Be safe and have lots of airflow and wear a respirator. This is gold glaze is also called “lustre.” I fired to cone 019 and also got great results. The zero in front is very important.

Thank you for sharing/making this video! The alcohol cleaning on the piece and all the other tips have given me the confidence to do it on my leaf dishes. Thank you!

OMG I have spilled my gold too!!!! It was painful!! Lol. You may have found this out by now but you can make a little “thing” to put your tiny bottle in so you don’t spill it and it makes it much easier to use! Just make a lump of clay and push the bottle into it and move it around a bit so that when it’s fired it will still fit!!

Very cool. I always wondered how gold was applied to the rims of stoneware. Another mystery solved. :)

Omg… it was awful. I should be making a little clay stand for the bottle!! I have a bunch of tiny bears with gold crowns ready to fire.

When I’m using ink in calligraphy I cut a round hole in one of the little circular sponges to fit the bottle of ink and that ensures I can’t knock it over, worth a try 😃

I’ve used ancient copper glaze by amaco & had good luck with it. Have not yet seen copper Lustre but Google, maybe?

Hi. Just watched this video. I produce percelain/ceramic pics for tomstones. I want to offer a gold rim around the pic. My supplier of the lustre said i must fire to 800 celsius. I don't know however how many hours must bake it for until it reaches the 800 mark. In know absolutely nothing about cones as I use a controller since i first started.
    Please can you advise me

You applied the gold on the rims of cups too but is this really food and microwave safe?

Use the paper towel with the glaze on it to rub over the edge of the mug!!

If the gold luster is thin it will leave purple marks instead of gold. : )
