Same here. Was transferred immediately to a government official and she was very helpful. Just make sure you have your SS4 form filled out in front of you, so you can read (spell) what you've wrote on each line. Have the nato alphabet at hand cause you do have to spell everything. Also like Bigode said, a US mail address is no longer needed for international EIN applicants! Thanks Sarah!

We are selling on amazon and we come from sweden. We made this by getting an EIN from USA so we started a Corporation in the US! And we are also using payoneer!
OK, so I have my EIN. But I'm still confused regarding the sales tax. First and foremost, why bother with the EIN and trading as a US citizen and creating the tax burden in the US? As I understand it, if I trade as an NZ citizen, I don't need to pay US Sales tax, just income tax here in NZ. What is the benefit of using the EIN that I am missing?? Assuming there is a good reason for using the EIN... 1) Is my home state the state of the mailing address I used for my EIN? Assuming yes, then that would make it New York State. When I look at the ST-120 form for resale exemption it asks if I am required to pay tax in New York State, or other. Here I've read conflicting information. One source says I should use my NZ GST number as I am based here. But another says, as I have an EIN and mailing address in New York, I should use that. Which would appear to mean I need to apply to be a New York State Vendor. Do I need to apply as tax vendor in the US? 2) I will be selling to customers all over the US, from different drop shippers, each of which may have their own nexus. This would imply that the tax calculation will be different in every case and could only be determined at sale time. This would seem to be a lot of work and something that would surely put off most small time dropshippers. Given how many people make a living, or part time income from dropshipping, I get the feeling I must be missing something; over complicating things.

Hi Sarah, I have read somewhere that some states' Reseller Certificate means the same thing as a Sales Tax Permit or Sales Tax License, while some other states have both Reseller Certificate and Sales Tax Permit. As I understand it, Reseller Certificate is used so that the reseller can be waived from paying sales tax, while a Sales Tax Permit/License is one that authorize the Reseller to collect tax. In TaxJar, it mentions that if reseller applies for the Sales Tax License and starts filing returns, it would Naturally create a Nexus in that state (www.taxjar.com/guides/register-for-sales-tax/#what-you-need-to-know-about-materiality). MY QUESTION IS: If Reseller Certificate would mean the same thing as a Sales Tax Permit/License in some of those states, would that trigger nexus and therefore I have to start collecting sales tax? Appreciate your advice on this & Thanks.

Hello, I've just watched the video and it seems so simple to get all the permits and IDs. But it's not. It's not even hard, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. I've followed the link to SALEHOO trying to find information how to get the resale certificate (by-the-way, I have been already spending couple of months trying to find it) and THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about how to get resale certificate for non-US resident. They are giving suggestions on how to get it for US-based residents only. There are bunch of comments under that article. People are asking how to get resale certificate for foreigner and even SALEHOO experts have no any idea how. They are suggesting to find an accountant and so on. I've found a lot of "explanations" of how to get the resale certificate for non-US resident all over the Internet and none of them is actually working. Nobody gives any real working solution.

Hi Sarah I live in uk and want to open a USA based account to dropship from USA suppliers to USA customers but someone has told me that when you give your UK address that will be your default "shipping from" address so shipping times shown by Amazon will be 10-20 days. I want my products to be shipped by various USA suppliers from different addresses but Amazon only allow you to set one default shipping address. I need my profile to show shipping from a single USA address with shipping of say 4-8 days and I don't have a USA fixed address. I cannot use multiple shipping from addresses. You say this is a requirement for some or all Dropshippers, but go on to talk about obtaining an EIN. Is the EIN the same number as a TID number that Dropshippers will be asking for? I live in Romania and I've made an US-based mail address, US phone number and tried both of my romanian credit cards (local currency and euro and they work fine everywhere in the world and on internet) and also tried with different email addresses but no result. I also tried to open regular seller account, as well as professional but as soon as I open my account, either they close it after, either they tell me whel I complete the registration that I don't have rights to sell or something like that. I also tried payoneer card but nothing. I am not the only one with this problem, I have a friend who tried many times and different methods but no result. Is there any solution for us?
First of all thanks for the great video. I am living outside the US. I have small confusion about "Resellers Certificate". Do i need to collect just 1 resellers certificate or i need to get multiple resellers certificate for different states? And if i sell on amazon directly by sourcing my product from China, do i still needs to get the EIN and Resellers Certificate like dropshipping? Thank you.
For states that have sales tax (most of them) you'll usually want to get a resale certificate for each state. Not all of them will require it though. I recommend watching this video here: ruclips.net/video/8MQFY9XI-ag/видео.html If you import from China, then no - you won't have any sales tax obligations as a seller outside of the USA - a huge bonus for you! :) You also won't need an EIN unless you're listing the items on Amazon. And as I see, I don"t even need an EIN, if I don't want to operate as a business. As a private person, I can have ITIN wihtout any problem. But I cannot apply for ITIN without attaching a valid federal tax return. So I don't know what to do. I cannot apply for ITIN without tax return, but I cannot start selling without ITIN, so please help me out with your knowledge.

If 1000 people buy from your store then that is a great problem to have! It won't start that fast however unless you get extremely lucky. You have to fulfill the orders manually with the dropshipper, but if your business grows then it's pretty easy - you can hire a virtual assistant to help you :) you can be any age really. You may need to double check the TOS of Amazon as it may require you to be 18 to sign up for an account. If so, and you're younger than 18, then you can always get your parents to sign up for you. Lester G Not for Amazon, will get you banned quick. But for webstore no if you use Paypal that would work. EIN and LLC company will give you more choices as you can setup Stripe and even Shopify Payments if you are a bit clever :) You are also legally much more protected with a company and EIN, you never know if someone choke on a product and sue.... :S

If you want to purchase from, say, Home Depot, what ZIP code do you put in billing address? You can't put New Zealand Zip code, can you? And I presume you use a New Zealand based credit card/paypal for making purchases.
Hello Wholesale TED. I would just like to ask, if a dropshipper asks for your address do you give them your US Mail address or your home of residency address? Also when applying for the USMail 1, do you need to apply for the option to recieve mail as well as packages or can I just apply for packages only? This is because if you want them to send mail as well a packages it requires you to get it signed by a notary of public, and this is quite expensive. When the SS-4 sends you your EIN in the post will this be a package or mail letter? thank you.
You give the dropshipper your customer's address - not your address. You can apply for packages only, it's just about having an address so that they can send the letter there. It's a formality. The EIN is sent as a letter, but you don't need to collect the actual letter, so if it gets destroyed by USMail that is OK - you just need the EIN number and to write it down yourself which they'll give you over the phone immediately. I hope that helps.

I'm not sure what to put on the form for the following:
2. Trade Name. I'm a sole trader. Should this be just my name or my amazon business name?
16. Principal activity of business - wholesale or retail
17. Principal line of merchandise sole - I don't have a niche yet

I have thought about launching a Shopify store. While the EIN is optional, the SSN isn't. Three questions:
1. This is stupid, and I am positive that the answer is no, but can the IRD number somehow be considered to be the SSN?
2. If the IRD number cannot be considered to be the SSN, how can someone outside the United States acquire an SSN?
3. What number did you use when setting up your own store?

I've just watched the video and it seems so simple to get all the permits and IDs. But it's not. It's not even hard, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. I've followed the link to SALEHOO trying to find information how to get the resale certificate (by-the-way, I have been already spending couple of months trying to find it) and THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about how to get resale certificate for non-US resident. They are giving suggestions on how to get it for US-based residents only. There are bunch of comments under that article. People are asking how to get resale certificate for foreigner and even SALEHOO experts have no any idea how. They are suggesting to find an accountant and so on. I've found a lot of "explanations" of how to get the resale certificate for non-US resident all over the Internet and none of them is actually working. Nobody gives any real working solution.

King Anima ..... you will need backup $$ for that, that's why some dropshiping gurus (*if not all), ask you to get (*or have something ready) a CC credit card with a substantial amnt. of credit line to use (*to fulfill orders)

Nice video, but I have found many dropshippers agreeing to dropship without any reseller certificate. why do I need to open an USA account, what if I open my country specific account? how does that affect me?

This EIN thing doesn’t make any sense , how can I get an EIN if I don’t have a company ( LLC ) registered in the US?! Call the IRS and fill out the SS4 form based on what ?!!!

Hi Sarah I live in uk and want to open a USA based account to dropship from USA suppliers to USA customers but someone has told me that when you give your UK address that will be your default "shipping from" address so shipping times shown by Amazon will be 10-20 days. I want my products to be shipped by various USA suppliers from different addresses but Amazon only allow you to set one default shipping address. I need my profile to show shipping from a single USA address with shipping of say 4-8 days and I don't have a USA fixed address. I cannot use multiple shipping from addresses. Can you please help me with this?

Hi Sarah. I've watched this video tutorial many times and am still confused re the need for a TID number. You say this is a requirement for some or all Dropshippers, but go on to talk about obtaining an EIN. Is the EIN the same number as a TID number that Dropshippers will be asking for? Or am I missing something here? Please help a fellow Kiwi! :)

One question about selling in the US from outside the US: when potential buyers see my profile (e.g. in the list with more sellers underneath the buy box), it clearly says that I ship from Spain. Would this not be a reason for American buyers to choose another seller? I know you are from New Zealand so you must have (had) the same kind of problem! I look forward to receiving your comments.

Actually I am trying for several months to open an Amazon account and I am not able to, I have no idea why.
I live in Romania and I've made an US-based mail address, US phone number and tried both of my romanian credit cards (local currency and euro and they work fine everywhere in the world and on internet) and also tried with different email addresses but no result. I also tried to open regular seller account, as well as professional but as soon as I open my account, either they close it after, either they tell me whel I complete the registration that I don't have rights to sell or something like that. I also tried payoneer card but nothing. I am not the only one with this problem, I have a friend who tried many times and different methods but no result. Is there any solution for us?

First of all thanks for the great video. I am living outside the US. I have small confusion about "Resellers Certificate". Do i need to collect just 1 resellers certificate or i need to get multiple resellers certificate for different states?
And if i sell on amazon directly by sourcing my product from China, do i still needs to get the EIN and Resellers Certificate like dropshipping?

For states that have sales tax (most of them) you'll usually want to get a resale certificate for each state. Not all of them will require it though. I recommend watching this video here: ruclips.net/video/8MQFY9XI-ag/видео.html
If you import from China, then no - you won't have any sales tax obligations as a seller outside of the USA - a huge bonus for you! :) You also won't need an EIN unless you're listing the items on Amazon. I hope that helps :)

If 1000 people buy from your store then that is a great problem to have! It won't start that fast however unless you get extremely lucky. You have to fulfill the orders manually with the dropshipper, but if your business grows then it's pretty easy - you can hire a virtual assistant to help you :) you can be any age really. You may need to double check the TOS of Amazon as it may require you to be 18 to sign up for an account. If so, and you're younger than 18, then you can always get your parents to sign up for you. What if I'm dropshipping from China using Aliexpress? Do I need EIN?
Lester G Not for Amazon, will get you banned quick. But for webstore no if you use Paypal that would work. EIN and LLC company will give you more choices as you can setup Stripe and even Shopify Payments if you are a bit clever :) You are also legally much more protected with a company and EIN, you never know if someone choke on a product and sue.... :S

The issue of US suppliers requiring a US based Credit or Debit Card or a US based Paypal Account for making purchased is not addressed.
There is no USA based supplier that I have ever encountered that demanded a US based credit card or PayPal account!
If you want to purchase from, say, Home Depot, what ZIP code do you put in billing address? You can't put New Zealand Zip code, can you? And I presume you use a New Zealand based credit card/paypal for making purchases.

Hello Wholesale TED. I would just like to ask, if a dropshipper asks for your address do you give them your US Mail address or your home of residency address? Also when applying for the USMail 1, do you need to apply for the option to recieve mail as well as packages or can I just apply for packages only? This is because if you want them to send mail as well a packages it requires you to get it signed by a notary of public, and this is quite expensive. When the SS-4 sends you your EIN in the post will this be a package or mail letter? thank you.
You give the dropshipper your customer's address - not your address. You can apply for packages only, it's just about having an address so that they can send the letter there. It's a formality. The EIN is sent as a letter, but you don't need to collect the actual letter, so if it gets destroyed by USMail that is OK - you just need the EIN number and to write it down yourself which they'll give you over the phone immediately. I hope that helps.
